Recalling Loan Players (5 Viewers)

I'm sure I have seen somewhere that we are / have recalled Jack Burroughs and Ryan Howley from their loans up in Scotland. Do we think this will be for Lampard to assess them for himself and support the first team squad?

If he's keeping them at Ryton could this be in place of actual signings?

Lampard basically said the decision is nothing to do with him and he didn't know anything about them but he's OK with having players back as extra bodies for training.

This apparent need to draft in extra bodies for training is an interesting one - you have to assume that Lampard is either unhappy or unfamiliar with working with a squad this size.

I am pleased we haven't let them continue to keep the Scottish benches warm. Unfortunately it seems Howley has failed to fulfill his potential at this point. Burroughs has shown he can play at this level and unless his car accident has impacted his ability, he adds cover for a number of positions.

I mentioned a few weeks ago about recalling Burroughs to be backup RB.

We need to reinforce CM and CB (particularly if Lati goes) so they are priority. As we already ahve a first choice RB who is going to play every game when fit we may as well have Burroughs as backup than go out and spend on a backup RB when we have more pressing issues, even though I don't think he's really up to the level.

Well at Chelsea the squad size is usually around 76 so must be strange for him at the moment.

I think both Howley and Burroughs deserve another chance, the former especially.
I remember him coming in at CAM against Huddersfield 22/23, and he had a really solid game in a 4-0 win.

Even Burroughs didn’t do that badly in his few appearances that season, additionally when he went on loan to Lincoln (?).

It was a really odd comment. Not sure if its just the way he phrased it but made it sound like we're so short on players we're struggling to run training sessions and needed to bring bodies in purely for the numbers even if there's zero chance of them playing.

Might just be the way he said it because surely if you're at that point you just rotate in some of the kids.

Think we just need to accept we don’t produce Championship quality players yet TBH.
I think that will be the case for a long time.

You look at the facilities Leicester have compared to us, ours look Stone Age in comparison. Villa aren’t far away and are in the champions league. Even Brum have all their plans for the American investment.

Until we get back to the premier league I don’t see us matching those clubs in terms of attractiveness to potential players and ability to actually develop them.

A shame Wilson and Maddison came through while we were shite and didn't really get to see them. Imagine them 2 coming through now.

You'd need an owner with a longer term plan than 5 years. King isn't that, he's a trader. That said, the academy is still producing potential but the problem is that the big clubs can poach it very early. Is it two players we've lost this year because of that?

Depends where they go in Scotland.

Kilmarnock is on paper a decent loan move, but you have to wonder if he's not getting minutes at what level he's suited to.
You could exactly the same for Eccles though, he went out to Gillingham played about 800 minutes and was recalled then after training with the first team played in 7 of the last 9 matches that season.

I don't think a longer plan is in any way superior in fact it feels inferior, like more putting objectives on the back burner rather than having pressure to achieve them.

Don't even think it's about the long term plan, it's just having the money. Leicester's training ground cost £100m. Unless we get a proper sugar daddy our best bet will be getting promotion and the riches it brings.

I imagine they will either go out on loan again then leave at the end of their contract or we will sell them/compensation this window.

If you can't get a game in the SPL or even worse the Scottish Championship, then you're nowhere near good enough to play in the championship. Andrews hasn't been used once this season and has been sent out to get some game, so I can't see 2 players not getting game time in the same / lower league coming in and being part of the first team plans.

Sorry state of affairs. Howley and Burroughs are nowhere near our level they are league 1 players at best and would be surprised if either of them had a career at any level higher than that.

Patterson training with us as well, another dross move.
