Atmosphere (19 Viewers)

I think Quality of football and sadly the cost has impacted atmosphere. As costs increase we expect more for our money we expect to be entertained. There needs to be something from the players at least some reciprocation. Oddly the loss of experienced players who realised how special the atmosphere was has possibly had a negative impact on how the players are reacting to support. Lampard needs to come out and say how support makes a difference we need some better player songs as to be honest some are now not easy to catch on therefore never makes its way out of singers corner. We need to use some of the older tunes as a foundation and have one or two clever ones. Thinking back to the 90s when all fans sang the same songs just with players names inserted at least they were simple. Dion dion Dublin to go.west. a song for dovin has been mentioned well that fits into go west only only dovin. We had oooo arrrr Lloyd mcgraph man utd slightly different too arrr Cantona.would work for Joel lati etc.I love some of what we do sing but we need it simplifying sometimes to get songs to catch on.

Agree with the first bit, but can't agree with the second bit. When you're at the game (and most are ST holders), I can't believe that many make that correlation at the time in the ground. If it's a poor game, but you got in for £5, I can't believe that you would suddenly become more vociferous in terms of support, than if you'd paid £20.

We just need to win more and against teams where that was not expected. The most raucous renditions were those referring to our promotion chances and successes.
I watched the game abroad with ‘Robins TV’ commentary and they were very complimentary about the CBS atmosphere.

Think I agree with there not being much character. Watch the little clips of the players on the screen, they’re mostly doing the same actions. There’s nothing different except for MvE doing his hadouken. And maybe Wright doing his trademark.

Everyone else is just pointing at the camera. So vanilla.

League position also to blame for this a little. The games all feel a little bit dead rubbery and it’s hard to get too excited as there’s no real jeopardy. If / when we get close to the playoffs again it will all come back.
Or the opposite, which even I am starting to think unlikely.

Maybe start WLADITTs earlier and sing the whole song. Or start it 1/2 way through to the end when the chorus repeats several times and include the "humming" bit.
Nice to hear the whole song.

Up there with Rhys Carr not running around enough during the warmup as the most bizarre criticism I've seen

I agree. It's amazing. Problem is, most people won't be in their seats in time.

I think we played the whole song before the Hull game after Wembley last season?

I believe the main reason the atmosphere has dipped is due to the opening of the south stand.

Having the away fans blocks away from singers corner has reduced the atmosphere. Noise is generated by the banter and provocation of the two sets of fans being close to each other. That was back for the Wednesday cup game, having the away fans close to singers corner.

The only solution would be, for singers corner to move behind the goal in the south stand. The view of the pitch is a bit shite in singers corner so i would see it as a win win.

It's probably one of the main reasons, definitely.

Like you say, the only solution to that is people moving over. It's pretty clear they'll never have away fans in blocks 10-12 because it would be extremely difficult to police it after the game.

While we're getting 26k+, we require fans in the South Stand.

This was the point. But it became some weird virtue signal that people would refuse to move for some reason. Only themselves to blame really.

They were garbage. Only song they sung all game.

Used to be so loud when they visited in the 00s. Always low numbers but good noise. Worst I've heard them.

You're always complaining about our perceived lack of atmosphere, but we've been on a similar trajectory to them. They got promotion from L1 and had that underdog mentality which after some relative success has turned to expectation. Atmosphere suffers as a result.

this is simple. Product on pitch ultimately dictates.

we are hav bad season, lost characters (songs) and product has by and large been poor to watch - simple.

Oxford game - great game, atmosphere good

luton game, by all accounts great atmosphere by end as comeback en sued.

atmosphere can be below par, that’s ok it happens.

It's true, I agree fully with that. It's a shame we couldn't buck the trend but ultimately we've become the norm. Oh well.

To add, Bristol were always one of the best for noise in the 00s. The section by the away end in the old stand at Ashton Gate was always brilliant. It's been much worse since they redeveloped the place.

It's far from that simple.

I think the big reason is the entitlement of fans, some understandable but much of it excessive. I understand when we're losing and playing badly but it's surprising when we're winning.

We don't have too many likeable players either and that could be why we don't have any decent player songs. The ones we have a more like church hymns than chants.

If we go on a bit of a run, it'll improve.

I think the pre match tunes are wank aswell

Not one song gets anyone pumped up and ready to belt out songs

Agreed with the above, the 'many men' video thing pre game is fucking pants, last years historical montage with current season highlights added was way better

It’s a mixture of things IMO. The biggest one far being the product on the pitch and none of the new players endearing themselves to the crowd other than Bassette.

I think the pre match AV keeps getting fucked about with and has got worse, the silliness around moving to safe standing had an effect and yeah probably expectation a bit too. But mostly I think it’s cos the football is boring and the players are dickheads.

the problem is you cunts don't fucking start songs and just gawp at the corner waiting to see what songs start there

start your own songs and stop fucking whinging

Calling people not wanting to move seats "weird virtue signalling" is frankly sick. Fancy telling the person I know who doesn't want to move away from their dead family members seat that they are weird?

seeing the likes of Josh Eccles posing to the lyrics "many men wish death 'pon me" makes me fucking cringe

Sorry disagree. Everyone searching for the silver bullet. Good product with some stardust and hero’s thrown in, you’ll get atmosphere that’s what we’ve had.

we are just in period of change and poor on pitch, it’s flat no big deal. Will come again.
I disagree. If we were in the playoffs now, I don't think the atmosphere would be any different.

Half the corner isn't singing. Almost nobody at the bottom was joining in when the drummer was smacking away.

The south stand is full of families and tourists really.
