Really? Praising Binks but criticizing Kitching on yesterdays performance

I’m not suggesting Binks is the answer or even a better player. I’m simply making the point that Kitchin can be erratic in his decision making and distribution and that was evident yesterday. That’s not a quality that most managers will want in a centre half.

Binks can hit a nice 40 yard cross field pass, but I'd say Kitchings decision making and distribution is far better, he's the only centre back who regularly passes between the lines. Completely agree, Kitching is better at playing the penetrating passes through the lines

You didn't use to care about that when looking at Palmer's pass percentage though.

I thought we saw the issue with Kitchin yesterday.

1up and goes for a 50/50 he can never make and they slip the ball to the forward who has ran into the space he’s left, but Binks blocks his shot 6 yards out.

His distribution was also incredibly inconsistent.

He plays with aggression and he does talk but you can see why he didn’t feature much before.

Thought a lot of the distribution from the back 3 was poor.
Dropping Thomas didn't help on that score.

Binks is shit in the middle of a three-loses concentration gets pulled all over the place and doesn’t spot the runner (Reason why Wells ran through for his 1 on 1 brilliantly saved by Dovin)

Although they must have tweaked something at HT because the back three were tighter in the second half. Much prefer Kitch in the centre and Binks out wide.

Scott Twine-was very worried about his impact on this game and especially conceding a free kick anywhere near his range.

But Lampard had obviously drilled this in to players and there was definitely a game plan-at times Kitching and Rudoni picked him up man to man when we lost the ball. Kitch went an awful long way to do this- sometimes into the Bristol half.

Definitely worked tho because Twine hardly had a kick and his influence on the game was minimal.

I’d have Thomas in the middle
Interestingly Lati stopped covering mve for 20 mins and they got in twice

Agree with a lot of that. Problem if Binks goes LCB is it probably exposes Dasilva. Not sure why Thomas didn’t start, wasn’t sure if Lampard was suggesting after game that he hadn’t been totally ‘on it’ in training or just rotating

The run of games he had upon taking charge was the most generous run we'll get all season and the return wasn't great. We continue to look ponderous and slow going forward while giving chances away at the back.

Today Bristol didn't take those early chances which allowed us a foothold in the game.

I don’t buy this view. Ignore their league position and look at the current form table.
Cardiff, Norwich, Sheffield Weds and Bristol all top half teams. That’s our last 4 games.

He might of been told that after the first 10 minutes. Up until then Brizzle had targeted JDS 3 or 4 times with the cross field ball to their No 2.

I'm quite positive about the back 3 now. Addresses the weakness if JDS wjo had a decent game yesterday.

Kitching has made LCB his own IMO and I think has improved the directness of the team. Lati RCB is a good enough place to slot him in - battled really well yesterday also.

Which means its a choice of either Binks or Thomas in the centre for me.

Big difference is that Kitching plays forward 57% of the time, where as Binks plays forward 36% of the time. Which when we have had issues moving the ball from defense through the thirds is really important. Otherwise we end up with Binks, Lati and Thomas passing the ball to each other without any outlet.

BTA and Simms were not winning all of Kitch's forward balls but when they did Bristol were in trouble. A few times Bristol put themselves in danger when they couldn't clear the long pass and Simms forced them towards the corner.

It looks like there’s a lot more fight in both of them, they along with the whole squad look a whole lot more confident, aggressive and tactically smart with their movement and press (minus Asante and Rudoni turning into opposition rather than space at times)

Agreed it shows a bit of fight and thats all us fans want, the players to show they do give a stuff and work for 3 points, that never say die attitude we used to have under Robins in the playoff year

I said to my dad, i feel so much better with him in goal. I know what you mean about him bringing a calmness. I've been watching him, he seems to be a lot more vocal of late, the saves he is making must be giving him so much confidence too.

The fact that Mark Robins dropped him makes me wonder if it was a Mark Robins signing.

2 things, I don't think he was a Robins signing based on comments he's made so as much as Mark Austin gets stick I think he has to take credit for him
2nd, he played in the majority of games Robins managed this season.
Carr dropped him for Collins and Collins stayed in until the Portsmouth debacle.
