Last 4 games - points 7 position 7th
Last 6 games - points 11 position 5th
Last 8 games - points 14 position 7th
Last 10 games - points 17 position 6th
Last 12 games - points 18 position 8th
So in or around top 6 for the last 12 games (close to half the games we have played), these stats certainly don't point to a team in relegation trouble.

On that form we will reach the 50pt safety mark with 8-10 games remaining, however it needs to step up another level for a play off challenge.

I don't believe we were ever in any relegation trouble, not really, just a very poor start.

Frank's done ok with the same squad that MR had, but would results have been very different??
MR had won 2 of his last 3 games and got sacked for it !!!!

Not saying Frank's worse or anything, just pointing out that this squad is where it deserves to be, and probably would be there with MR or FL.

Poor starts have become a common thing. Maybe it will change, maybe it won't, but it's the main thing that's been costing us.

I’m a big MR fan and was devastated when he was sacked. But looking at it dispassinnately now, I think Robins would have struggled to turn things round. Too much seems to have happened behind the scenes, and it was looking tough for him.

Go right back to the 8th game and we are only 1 point off 6th. This season has always been about the other end. The reality is that we haven't even been particularly good over the last 8 games and we are somehow 6 points off West Brom. 1 more off Blackburn who surely aren't making play offs. Home game against Watford then an out of form Swansea... there is not much in this league to be scared of.

Not as lost as Viveash without Robins.

It’s a cliché, but perhaps Cov and Robins were the perfect fit for each other, and Robins/Viveash were the perfect team, along with Lawrence. And working under the constraints of managing City suited his stubborn, dogged personality. A backs against the wall, siege mentality. Very few people could have coped. I hope he succeeds at Stoke, but I fear for him….

Agree. Then Viseash went and it went downhill and I think it all just ran out of steam. It happens. I appreciate what they all did for us over the last 7 years but it stopped working and I backed and still back the change.
Just checked and we won 8 in robins last 30 games at the club and 2 of those wins were league cup.

It was our home form that got MR sacked. We conceded 11 goals in 6 games and we hadn’t played the better teams at home back then.

There has been a material improvement under Lampard and whilst it’s early days at Stoke for MR, it’s not looking positive atm.

Lampard hasn’t had Haji available to him and we’ve picked up injuries to EMC and Sheaf. With this in mind, we should be cautiously optimistic about this half of the season. Looking at the fixtures, we’ve got all the top half at home barring Sheff U, Sheff W and QPR (barring teams we’ve played home and away). This could be huge for us!

I like a steady start which gathers pace from January. Good starts often seem to fizzle out.

Last 4 games - points 12 position 1st
Last 6 games - points 13 position 1st
Last 8 games - points 17 position 2nd
Last 10 games - points 20 position 3rd
Last 12 games - points 23 position 2nd
6 of those teams were above us when we played them, 4 of them still are.
Only Leeds and Burnley have conceded fewer goals in their last 12 games, and only 5 teams have scored more.

As I have always said, take one game at a time and after Easter you have an idea what sort of battle you are in; relegation, promotion or just pride.

I think we would still be stuttering along bottom half of the table just on the basis that a good portion of our recent key performers probably wouldn't have been playing regularly:

EMC
Kitching
Torp
Dovin

While I agree with the 'one game at a time' philosophy, there will only be 2 more games to play post Easter so we should know a bit before then if we're in with a serious crack at the play offs or not.

you really need to be in with a chance with 6 games to go
our last 6 are not so hard with a potential decider on the last day

if we are on 58 points before the last 6 we have a chance

so that means minimum of 17 off next 10 with some hard games in there

Think that difficult run in March will be key but given 2 of the fixtures are at home its not impossible.

Added factor is that 2 of our rivals are our opponents in the last 6 games and we can take points directly off them

17 points in the next 10 games is well achievable, we have home games against QPR, Preston, Stoke, and away games against Oxford and Derby, in those games we should take a good haul of points. We also usually do well against Sunderland and Sheff W. Preston don't bother me, just another bogey team to dispense. Leeds, Burnley and Sheff U are free hits but I'm confident we won't lose all 3.

The thing is Lampard has taken over a good side. Yes a good side out of form maybe, but still a good side.

Under Robins yet another slow start was disappointing but there were signs of the traditional improvement. What was the real head scratcher was the inconsistent performances from one game to the next.

I thought Robins deserved more time but wasn't surprised when he got sacked. For one I felt there was a couple of interviews which weren't like him. Normally he could pick out the positives or at least just say that wasn't good enough and below our normal standards. But he seemed to be lost for the answers.

I wasn't a Lampard sceptic, anymore than I am over any new manager. Let's waite and see attitude, give them time.

Frank Lampard has done well. But has used the squad in a similar way to Mark Robins along with formations. He seems to advocate the same principles. So I appreciate the continuity. The only real differences are EMC on the left which coincided with Wright being injured. Players buying back into the system, perhaps because hang on another manager is telling me the same thing.

We do seem to be trying to get the ball forward more quickly under Lampard. But I remember Robins often saying our tempo was too slow and we weren't making the right decisions in the final third.

Okay the selection is more settled but that has come through more consistency. Robins didn't change winning sides much. It's hard to stick with a player after a below par performance.

Fans often criticized Robins for making subs too late. To me Frank Lampard makes them later in the game. Again perhaps just a sign that performances are better and subs have been more about game management rather than trying to change a game.

For me Mark Robins was a great manager for us and a hard act to follow. Frank has come in and done well and the players have responded to new voices around them. It is still early days and from now until the end of the season will be interesting and hopefully exciting.
