First time Eccles has not improved year on year. Either the natural drop in form that all youngish players experience, something gone wrong in his personal life or he is not happy with the new set up.
Hopefully the first and he will bounce back soon.
To repeat Otis, he's just out of form in a team that's generally been poor this season. That doesn't make him a poor player or means his development has necessarily stalled.

He was very good in the early part of the season, and he'll be good again, no doubt.

Before Robins went the general consensus was Eccles had really kicked on this season. Since then/his new contract/whatever it is he’s stalled a bit but to say he hasn’t improved this year is rubbish.

Think that pass completion vs key passes graph said it all. Just very middle of the road and he doesn’t excel at anything. You’d have sheaf or Allen ahead of him at DM and Torp and Rudoni far ahead of him as 8s.

Didn’t really think about it that much but as a player who’s not currently starting games what a stupid thing to do. Might make Lampard think twice about bringing him on if we’re seeing out a close game.
I didn't see the game, but could it not be that Eccles shot because he's not been featuring and if he scored, he would have made Lampard stand up and take notice.

Like he had a point to prove.

That would make sense wouldn't it?

Squad game, he'll be called on at some point, might have influenced his decision to shoot late on instead of pass to Bassette?

He should have passed to Bassette so Bassette could run it into the corner flag and wind the clock down.

I wouldn't have taken that shot the obvious ball was to Bassette but I can understand it from a selfish point of view, limited minutes, not used to it,smelt glory and put it wide, we've all extolled his virtue s all season,a lot of minutes Indeed but Frank's got a fresh eye on things and it's other players who are getting the nod with not bad results,he simply needs to relax and wait his chance,it probably hasn't helped that he's been ever present until now.

If his motivation was to shoot, he was putting himself ahead of the needs of the team....when we needed game management, shows a lack of discipline.

If it had flew into the net though nobody would be complaining. It still helped wind the clock down.

Fans are always the perfect judges from the stands.

Having a shot was the quickest way he could’ve given the ball back to Watford other than literally passing it to them. It was an awful decision.

I have already said what the better decision would have been.
But his shot wasn't the quickest way of giving the ball back to Watford at all. His shot meant the ball went dead and had to be retrieved wasting some seconds.
The worst would have been to get turned over or lose the ball to Watford for an immediate counter attack. At least from a goal kick we could regroup and all get behind the ball.

Do we really need to search for a new boo boy? He's had a few tough weeks. He's not suddenly sh*t.
I'm not trying to pile on and I generally agree, but not taking the ball to the corner is one of my massive pet peeves because it basically shows you either have no understanding/appreciation of the state of the game OR you're just very selfish and care about personal glory/stats more than the result.

Some fucking mental takes here! Eccles was just about our best player for long periods this season, at times he was the only player that looked like they gave a shit. Got to give the guy a break for being out of form at the moment. He's made some poor decisions but that happens when you have limited game time.

It's a squad game and he'll get his chances again. It's like some on here actively want to write him off

Frank wants a 6 who can receive the ball from the defence on the half turn and progress us forward and two dynamic creative number 8’s in midfield.

Eccles is neither of those things
