I am outsider on this one. Haven't seen us against Swansea for quite a while for one reason or another.

But it looks like

- Sheaf is on his way out (and may not fit with what Lampard wants - maybe a quicker style of play).
- Grimes is older than Sheaf and apparently a leader. He is (if you guys above are correct) of comparable quality to Sheaf but a different sort of player.

This is all makes sense, but is Grimes going to do all the donkeywork that Allen has been doing very effectively. In a Torp - Rudoni - Grimes midfield who is going to be the grafting defensive midfielder? Grimes sounds from the above to be Mr Flashy Passer.

Wonder if that the future role for Torp - who is one of the niftiest at dispossessing opposition players

Grimes plays the role Allen has been playing but can be more progressive than Allen. Most of his passes as short and aimed at ball retention in a CDM role. It's just that unlike Allen if the longer ball is on Grimes can play it.

I'm expecting much quicker transition, hitting the channels, or Simms, making use of our forwards and wingbacks to overload defensive lines. If this is actually realised, watching city could be much more fun.

I'm expecting much quicker tranistion, hitting the channels, or Simms, making use of our forwards and wingbacks to overload defensive lines. No doubt. I don't mean he's going to ping a killer ball everytime we get possession, but currently not much of that happens (not successfully anyway), with Sheaf doing a reasonable job of it, when he's on it.

Seems like grimes is likely more capable of doing this though. I really hope so!

He frequently receives the ball from the CB's and things start from him. As you say he does the basics but when the opportunity arrises can hit the long telling pass.

He’s a defensive midfielder positionally. Not in his style of play. He’s better on ball than off
