Agreed, but generally speaking his M.O has been signing players he can make a profit on

The next he's making it rain on a bloke whos 30 this summer. I mean I'll take it but seems a real pivot in strategy
Context is everything. When you get a massive windfall from 2 players, you’re going to prioritise building a team for the next 5 years.

We’ve signed around 17 players since the playoff final, most of which are 25 and under so it makes sense to start add some experienced players who can make an impact immediately.

It’s why we’ll see more loans this window or next. The transfer policies haven’t changed, but the stages of building a squad are.

Just accept that Hamer and COH just wanted to move on. Both players wouldn’t have been convinced to stay with an extra 10-15k. In the case of COH, I believe we’ve got a better player in Rudoni.
I accepted both leaving and their reasons 100% (I wasnt giving either a reach around when they returned with Sheff U either). Really wasn't intending to make this a retread of those 2 leaving for 1000th time.

The point I was making, clumsily, is that this seems a volte face from Doug for an `older' head ie. fair bit of cash a)up front b) Wages over contract for player with little or no re-sale

I think Grimes is a great player btw and hope we can kick-on

Yep cause that's what I said that it MUST be.

Doesn't matter if I'm wrong, was just always a rumour on here.
if you want some more evidence "he" said thanks when I congratulated him on his first Scotland call up. ;)

Where does he play, doesn’t get many goals or assists so guessing defensive Midfielder, would be a bit harsh if he comes straight in for Allen, or Does he take torps spot ?

He’s played against us multiple times, surely you should know

dont pay much attention to opposing players, unless they really stand out, watfords no8 was quality, I remember how he played, genuinely don’t remember watching Swansea when they beat us thinking “ that grimes is quality “ hope he’s class for us but honestly can’t remember him

This one seems to be genuine and probably deserves it's own thread.

His passing stats are ridiculous.

Genuinely mental stats there. Clearly likes to keep his team in control with plenty of short safe passes. But the interesting part is he attempts over 10 long balls a game, and is pretty on the money with them too! 99th percentile for progressive passes, that's really the stat that jumps out, absolutely key for us to really control games and pin teams back. You would like to think he'll really shine with what many of us believe to be higher quality players than Swansea around him. Looks like he's no afraid of a tackle and can break up the play effectively too. PUSB please just announce this !!

That first clause is usually me, hardly ever notice players by name - sometimes come away thinking the Hull #45 seemed a bit of a show pony etc. however, one of the rare exceptions for me has been Swansea.

1) until last season when he was finally anonymous, Jamie Paterson regularly turned it on against us (just like he did for Bristol C and Walsall tbf).
2) In the play off season a 67 year old Joe Allen came on and turned a 3-0 deficit into a 3-3 draw.
3) Matt Grimes always caught my eye as the type of midfielder we needed in our squad.

Don’t understand why he wasn’t picked up in the summer, stood out to me in the Euros too
