Which all may well be true - it's hardly a surprise for a new manager to gradually replace the old coaching staff with their own trusted coaches.

I just don't understand this theory that Aled Williams was the evil Svengali ruining everything all along behind the scenes. Even if you believe a GK coach would be given such sweeping responsibility (it sounds ridiculous to me), he seems like quite a convenient scapegoat.

Williams took over the defensive coaching in the wake of Dennis Lawrence leaving

With the changes made in the summer it was decided not to shake up yet another thing, so he was left to it

Between the Huddersfield match (first game after Lawrence left) up until Williams last game in charge of Defensive coaching v Pompey we kept something stupid like 5 clean sheets in 38 games.

Since he's been relieved of that and focusing back on his actual role of Keeper coaching, the defence is more solid under a new set of eyes

I dont rate him as a keeper coach either tbh but seems to be working well with Dovin

I don’t know why people think it’s so odd that a coach might be asked to look after the defence and keeper.

I can see why Robins may have seen the back 5 ( including the keeper ) as a single defensive unit, and thought the more they worked together the better etc.

That said it clearly didn’t work post Lawrence but the idea is not totally bonkers if you have the right coach.

Mental TBH. Defence clearly fell apart once Lawrence left.

What's your proof? Was the defensive coach in charge of how the team set up defensively on matchday? Where does Williams fall short as a GK coach? (Especially at a time when our current #1 is in outstanding form)

The amount of pure conjecture on the coaching at this club is bizarre to me

It took Lampard 3 or 4 weeks to see Collins wasnt up to it

The same amount of time for him to see Williams isn't up to scratch either

He will be the next out. Bookmark this if you like
Just wondering if he's also made his mind up about JDS and Eccles. Both havent started regularly much of late

@Saddlebrains

hope you don’t mind the question. A number of months back you said something along the lines of the camp not been a happy one and a number of players were wanting to jump ship. Do you know if the mood has changed and players are more committed to and dare I say convinced about the project since Frank has started putting his stamp on things ?

Can't see any need to take action on the GK coaching situation till the summer while it's going as it is.

Should Lampard have the Manager title now? We clearly aren’t using a Head Coach system (good IMO).

I thought this.
This set up clearly isn't designed with continuity in mind and when Lampard goes, then his team will be going with him

Personally, like you, I'm not bothered.
As far as Im concerned his job is to win matches, not lay the foundations for a seamless transition when he fucks off

Head coach is not to do with the coaching staff but the separation of recruitment. Austin doesn’t work for Lampard, they are colleagues.

And hasn't worked in football subsequent to leaving this job either
The question is of course does he want another job? Loads of people retire at 55, I certainly did (earlier actually).
No one can judge someone's ability in any given job without knowing the full background.
Adi has said he does not want to be a Manager. I do wonder what his severance package was.

I'm not sure what Austin has to do with it.
If Lampard succeeds, which hopefully he does, he'll move on and take his Coa hing team with him.

We'll need a whole new coaching team.
Like I say, not overly bothered.

Think I’m just blinded by the Plymouth match tbh
Yes he was really good that day. Just overall, I feel he has not been the same this season even before Lamps came in. Some games good, most not up to his usual standard, although all players have a bad spell and this is his first, I believe.
There again, team in general have not been great this season. Last few games they have ground out results without being brilliant. Interesting which way it goes from here. Most fans think we are on an upward trajectory. Lets hope so.

Eccles has always reminded me of Shipley. Doesn't look out of place in the championship but also wouldn't look out of place in league 1

I think bringing an actual goalkeeper into the team in place of the bloke who let in every shot he faced has had a far greater bearing on the quality of the defence/the results than changing the responsibilities of the coaches.
Alongside bringing Kitching, Allen and Simms into the side… Each of those players have made a positive impact in the area of the pitch they’re playing in.

Simms has been on the pitch every game he’s not been injured this season. And started 66% of league games pre Lampard and 50% under Lampard.

People just say things.
