Rate the Transfer Window (3 Viewers)

So pre-transfer window we weren't in a great place. Our form was up and down with some suggesting that we needed major changes.

Fast forward to the end of the window our form is now very good, we have brought in 1 player who by all metrics should be a good player for us, a couple of our loanee's have been recalled and look like they will be adding a bit of depth to the squad, We've sent a couple out on loan to get game time and we have an Unattached player training with us who could potentially be signed on a short term deal.

So on a scale of 1-10 how do people rate the window?

I'm going for a solid 7 out of 10. I'd have liked a right back as cover for Milan and another left back to replace JDS. Maybe that was the thinking in bringing Burroughs back as he can play either.

7 for me. I think a little more business would have been nice but i would imagine improvements in pre-existing players probably altered the plans during the course of the window. Allen and Kitching are like new players, BTA is starting to look decent..
Think we are lacking on the right side at both RB/RWB and RW, but maybe Rapha will step up, maybe Paterson comes in to cover. Lets see.

Sustainability also has to be part of the story and given what we’ve spent on Grimes, I don’t think we could have expected much more. Plus holding onto Sheaf, BTA, MVE etc. I think I would rate this window 8.5.

That could just be the current feel good talking… but I’m feeling good 🙂

I would go with 8/10 personally.

We didn't lose anybody, and we signed Grimes, who is potentially just about one of the best signings you can make at this level. Going back a few years, I couldn't imagine us pulling off anything even close to this.

The only thing stopping it being rated a bit higher would be signing more players, but with the likes of EMC and Wright to come back I think we have enough anyway. Can't complain really!

I think we all agreed we needed to improve at CB, CM, RW and RB. Our new shape/system has sorted the CB area without the need of a new addition. Grimes coming in at CM looks, on paper, a very good signing. It's the right side of the pitch which worries me as, for the second season in a row, we only have 1 RB. And now that Tavares has gone out on loan, only 1 RW. Let's hope van Ewijk and Sakamoto remain fit for the rest of the season.

We've won 4 in a row playing with a back 3. But with Wright and Mason-Clark to come back, at some point a imagine we will switch back to 4-3-3/4-2-3-1. Let's hope we do not regret not signing a player who can cover the right side of the pitch.

I sincerely believe that Grimes could be that integral CM that will drive this team like Gus did.

For positivity and addressing a key positional issue, and not flogging any key players, it’s an 8/10 for me.

Once Haji and EMC are back, we could really start rolling. 🩵

Feels like a 7 to me. We didn't lose anyone we wouldn't have wanted to, made a great signing in Grimes but didn't strengthen in the one place i think most people agree we need something (understudy to MVE). I think it speaks volumes that we'd rate a window like this as low as a 7 given what we've endured in the past. We are in a good position going into the final 16 games and with a bit of luck on the injuries front i think we could see something special (again).

A very smart approach.
Grimes signing is exactly what we need.
Patison still an option.
Plug some gaps and do the big business in the summer.
Makes perfect sense to me.

I said on another thread, 5 or a 6.

Only because pre-window, the consensus was that we needed 4-5 player to come in and we've only brought in 1...albeit, a brilliant signing.

Has the recent poor form papered over squad depth?

What if we get hit with a couple of long term injuries or suspensions??

Pleased no one left but would've liked to see a couple more bodies through the door. Not gutted or anything mind and still confident of a PO place.

We are already coping without Sheaf, Wright or EMC.

9. I wasnt expecting anyone and thought someone significant would be sold but we got a really good missing piece of the overall jigsaw coming in to jog us on. Doug is King

Would say 8.

Grimes Is a quality midfielder at this level and gives a ton of championship experience. Expect him to be our captain if Sheaf leaves in the summer.

Didn’t lose any of our players outside of Fabio which is good especially in regards to MVE and Wright.

Only concern is our lack of back up for Milan but as others have pointed out got Eccles for RWB and Lati for RB.

9 for me. No outgoings of significance and 1 major player for a substantial fee.

Couldn’t be happier tbh. We have wright sheaf and EMC all imminently to come back this month also.

Not really exciting but a definite boost to the squad without upsetting the good mood around the camp.

Got to be a 9 …..
An unexpected seasoned championship captain , joining our ranks ….. excellent business.
Looking at the other clubs , Bristol didn’t sign anyone , but most seemed to sign lots of players , possibly to pad out their squads , with them needing to bed in fast , where we have no major upheaval , just quality to introduce, when it’s needed .
Dougie boy might have been right all along ?

Only worrying thing is we’ve been playing well without any expectation on us , closer to the play offs we get more pressure on us, couldn’t handle it the start of the season, hopefully Lampard sorts that out, but squads getting better and better 8/10

It’s so hard to judge we were reeling from robins departure and assuming fl had had promises when taking over

Then we all felt we needed a cb and Kitching has stepped up like a new signing
Sheaf was injured and before that we needed a cm and then Allen Torp and Rudoni have stepped up Allen especially way beyond what we thought he was able to do. But we’ve spent big and bought statistically one of the top midfielders in the league huge plus

RB mve has returned from his anxiety ridden month and is back at his best and it looks very possible now to cover him with Eccles or Lati and even Burroughs which will be a loss but we won’t miss Lati at the back or Eccles in the middle

Then you have Simms and Bta scoring

So by the end I the window not only are we through to fac4 but we’ve added 12 points

3 outside top 6 and 14 ahead of bottom 3 is it?

So January for the club is a solid 11/10

Transfer window probably 7/10

Got to go with the consensus on the thread.

Really happy to get Grimes - the experienced CM we've been looking for for ages, but how have we still not got cover/competition for MvE? It's a position with a lot of running and I fear we're going to run him into the ground and end up in a Dabo scenario.

I would have like a loan central defender of the calibre of Doyle or McNally to come in to play alongside Kitching. It would have enabled us to go 4 at the back.

Other clubs seem to have more success loaning players out than we do.

Otherwise it does not bothe me that the number of transactions is so low. Grimes is obviously a huge win. Even so 6 / 10 from me.

It's a solid 6 for me.

Grimes looks like a really smart move. Assuming Raphael can start to give Sakamoto a push for minutes on the right when we play that system, it's only MVE that doesn't have decent cover at RB. Less of an issue if we keep playing 3 x CBs, Eccles and Sakamoto can do a job between them.

Kept our players, made a good addition, got a couple out on loan. Probably a little over buoyant due to results and players due to return.

Would like to have seen Collins out, new losns fof Howley and Burroughs and some FB cover, but that can wait until the summer. Maybe some regular L1 football for Bassette and Raphael too, who I can't see featuring much when everyone's back.

Kept our players. Made a very good signing. Sent two out on loan who needed to go out on loan. Brought two back to assess and in positions we might be able to utilise even if it is just on the bench.

A good window I think. No reason why we can't keep progressing with what we have got.

Just a look around our squad now. Almost everyone new since Doug came in has been purchased individually for multi million pounds. Compared to a few years ago when we were scraping around with loans and free transfers we have moved on beyond belief

Part of the rationale for bringing the loanees back was because numbers for training sessions were light with all the injuries in the squad.

Who would want Collins ? He probably could even get into a women's team as a.keeper and their bar is pretty low for keepers.

To be slightly kind to Collins, he may now not be so bad now that the defence has toughened up. Not every goal conceded was his fault and it no doubt knocked his confidence. Admittedly he made some howlers
