The arrival of the Morrocans and Robbie Keane was a game changer.

He had 1 good season for us out of 4 mainly because he was finally fit and also the introduction of Carlton Palmer helped him. The previous 3 seasons he was poor although he had a knee injury which he should have had operated on but he didn't want to miss 1998 WC.

Probably going to get a slap for this but I’d say Ndlovu and Whealen.

Both could pull out bits of unbelievable magic and the talent was there for all to see but neither were consistent and had long dry spells of doing fuck all.

Don't mean I don't rate them. Just feel they are most overrated by our fans that's all. You can see it in match ratings. Bare minimum is more likely to see a 7 given than got someone else for example

Match ratings threads are pointless. People just rate their favourites higher and knock a point or two off those they dislike.

Which “golden boys” of City players, past and present, do you think have inflated worths?

For me - Michael Doyle. Clogger whose penchant for bookings/ sending offs masked his limited ability.

To a lesser extent, Dean Emerson always seemed to have got a lot of praise. Was just a teenager in his pomp, but never saw it myself. Always injured and had a terrible moustache.

Emerson was brilliant when he joined, same as Roy Barry. Both never recovered from broken legs, so unfair to single Emerson out.

I’ve only been once and it was pretty unwelcoming they said go straight in the ground if you go for a drink locally you will get beat up. We didn’t have a massive following that day from memory.

Somewhat agree and thats fair, but I expected it to be more full of wide type players. Ohare springs to mind of course, David Bell, Leigh Jenkinson a couple more.

Huge case of unfulfilled potential was Whelan, if i remember rightly he got used in midfield alot but ive always thought of him as a striker/support striker.

I think Mo Konjic would be the one I’d agree with most…as he seemed to be rated by so many. I don’t think he was very good.
It’s tricky, as some were just plain shite.

Andy Pearce? People aid how good he was for about 5 mins and Sheff Wed paid a decent wedge for him. Rubbish. Dion made him look like a clown when playing for Cambridge.

Neither were exactly over-rated, because they were both exceptional talents, but they didn't realise their potential.

Ndlovu seemed to peak very early, and Whelan was his own worst enemy. There's no chance Leeds would have sold him if he hadn't have had the personal issues that he did. Didn't have the maturity to deal with being a professional footballer at that time.

That said never questioned the commitment of anyone on the list. Also as a club we progressed fast through the leagues and that exposed one or two to scrutiny that they would not have got had we remained in league 1 etc.

Overrated? I'm not sure that many people overrated these players. People had a soft spot maybe but that's it.
