I would hope FG sees the value of the good relationship that currently seems to be there.

I think they will but you can never be complacent.
We've been here before though different parties involved this time.
Though my original point was people slating Luton, but I think there's a lot about their current situation to be envious of.

It looked to be a somewhat sound idea. Build for the long term health of the club and a decent championship squad for the next year.

Don’t think anyone could of predicted how utterly shite it’s become for them.

I think it's more that the CEO got very excited about their prospects of returning to the PL that in August it was announced their stadium capacity was increased to 25k from about 17.5k. The whole project is earmarked to cost around £450m.

Likely not all their money but a sizeable chunk will be. There's also the issue of how they're going to fill it when their average gate over the past 5 years (excluding the PL season and Covid) has sat around 10k.

Fair play to them but it does feel like they've bitten off far more than they can chew.

Wonder if they do go down if they’ll reduce it back down to the original stage one plans of I think 16,000

Don’t worry lads we’ll just build an 18k stadium in the Uni right? If you thought away games were a closed shop…

It’s not going to come to the club being kicked out. Concerns over higher rent are fair but can be addressed provided it isn’t inflexible and can go up or down depending on league status.

The point is, I've heard it's already too high. Push it up anymore and it's very much in inflexible territory.

As I've already mentioned, medium-long term that's a problem if we stagnate in the Championship over that period.

Can’t wait for the post in five years about how the rent is unsustainable in the PL unless we get into Europe.

No. Ashley has turned his attention to stadiums I think. I believe he was looking at Headingly a year or so ago but the deal collapsed.

Just don’t follow the business model that sits behind this approach. Surely the RoI is too low to bother with if it’s solely a property investment play?

Oh god not all this shit again. Actually I think things are stable and an agreement will be reached nether DK or MA/FG will want to kill off their businesses, SISU was an entirely different situation where the stadium was the potential reward once Wasps inevitably collapsed.

Yeah on the face of it it's a weird one. The only thing i can think of is he's looking at buying stadia of distressed clubs at below market value and selling them for profit to other third parties after pumping some money in for improvements.

On that note then, hopefully he just sells us the stadium after playing hardball for a couple of months. Assume Doug's investors would still be interested

A player under contract has a say but can't force anything.

Remember Gyokeres saying we were asking for too much for him? King held his nerve and got far more than most thought was possible. Hamer also went for a good price considering just 1 year left.

If you want a player you either meet the asking price or risk the player going elsewhere. More than 1 year left on the contract? Pay the price or forget it. They won't be skint as they still have parachute payments due.
They just won’t play it’s happened before and will again and their value gets even lower. It will be a fire sale at Luton as all they are really bothered about is their ground and how to fund it.

Relegate them with a dodgy last minute penalty given away by Morris diving in his own box and handling the ball the midlands news would be fantastic on the Monday with that twat Owen reading it

Don't forget Ashley is moving his HQ to Ansty by 2026 at quite a considerable cost but the long term saving is the winner for his group, he wants/needs a name at the Arena that will bring crowds and money into the Arena to enable to achieve the 80% usage target required. Don't know if it's in his remit to aquire us to continue with the project

I was looking at the adminstrator's report for ACL earlier, for it is now subject to a formal court order to wind up after the conclusion of the administration.

FG bought the leasehold for £8.9m, paid £1 each for various other assets of ACL. I assume it paid similar to buy the head lease from ACL2006 hence the roughly £17m purchase price.

No, they'll not just hike it up as they need us as much as we need them. The arena makes no sense as a business without us there.

Let's not go back down this bullshit route based on what someone claims their mate has said.
Ashley is a business man. He bought the stadium to make money. A stadium isn't cheap to run. He will expect a decent return for the outlay. He won't care how much it affects us as long as we can still afford to pay.

That's why he won't buy the football club, he knows how much it would cost to buy the club and how much it would cost to buy players, contracts etc.

Look at Manchester United apparently one of the richest clubs in the world and yet their £350m in debt.
