Really it was just you embarrassing yourself as anytime anyone tried to offer any kind of alternative opinion to your Zelensky/Starmer worship obsession, you just reel out embarrassing retorts like the one above.

It's not embarrassing at all. Several people have spent the day baiting me then don't like it when their hypocrisy is pointed out.

Can't take it then don't give it. Quite simple.

There have certainly been some odd takes and digs on this thread from posters I always thought were quite sensible and better than that kind of thing.

Think Putin will be looking at the Baltic states next after Ukraine so anyone who thinks it will end soon I think are under a false illusion. The man's a danger to the whole of Europe.

In reality Russia has exhausted a lot of its military capacity and unlike Ukraine and Georgia, the Baltics are in the EU and members of NATO. Therefore, there’s an obligation to fight Russia then.

The lesson the UK & EU needs to take from this is that we need to rearm and build up our military capacity.

Nope I’m saying Churchill was proved right by history but at the time it was insane
Ukraine will not surrender and Russia will lose millions we will have a choice sure
What’s ok to you ukraine Lithuania Georgia Moldova at what point do we say no

You are saying we should go to war. Just be honest about it. Churchill was very open about the need to confront Nazi Germany back in the 1930s. The difference between then and now is that Nazi Germany did not have access to nuclear weapons!

I’m not ok that Russia occupies the regions it does in Ukraine. The reality on the ground is that the conflict is frozen in the same way World War 1 was. The only way Ukraine keeps Donetsk and/or Luansk is dependent on A) forcing the Russians out or B) the sudden collapse of the regime. So why should we bankroll this when now is clearly the time to negotiate a peace settlement.

Is Europe ready to go to war with Russia? No, because it’s neglected its defence budgets in favour of a swelling welfare bill.

Peace through strength is how you achieve genuine, long lasting peace.

You make some really good points there
I’m not saying anything at all
I’m saying that I can see zelensky saying fuck off to Vance and trump and fighting on their own and delaying Russia but ultimately leading to disaster
You can’t allow putin to escape from this with anything that looks like success but I don’t know how
We won’t go to war and we probably can’t you know that

Poland would force Russia, in its current state, out of Ukraine within a matter of weeks.

Not saying they (or anyone) will or should. But they absolutely could.

If you look at how devastated the occupied regions are and the sheer manpower Russia has lost… it’s almost been relegated to China’s vassal with how dependent it is on them economically.

The cost of the war on Russia means they would rather fight to the death than give up their ‘gains’. Ukraine could probably live to fight another day.

I’m not sure that would be the case… NATO, yes but with the regions that Russia occupies being formally annexed, that would arguably result in nuclear war as it meets one of the key criteria for Russian doctrine on nuclear strikes.

What ever happened to the mighty Bundeswehr or the Royal Navy? Hollowed out to mush by political elites complacent in their belief of the ‘End of History’ theory.

Putin won't launch a nuke. The man is utterly terrified of dying, he won't sanction his own death.

But yes agree with your final paragraph, the RN is a shadow of what it once was.

I think this will really backfire on trump
He seems now to be threatening to not be part of peace
Such a dick

The US public opinion seems to be in favour of Trump and Vance here. He’s in the Oval Office, dressed in military slacks and because he doesn’t seem grateful, it’s rubbed up a lot of Americans up the wrong way.

Watching the whole unprofessional exchange in full, in my view, Zelensky said a few things that wouldn’t have gone down well. Vance was probably a bit too het up himself. It was rather extraordinary and it’s a massive own goal for Zelensky in my view. The USA is the single biggest contributor for their military aid and a lot of the military kit the EU and UK sends is of US origin which they can implement export controls on.

America is a country that’s easily offended and Trump is a manifestation of that.

If his own downfall or death was imminent due to an invasion, he almost certainly would do.

Even the more ardent US politicians behind Ukraine are turning against Zelenskyy.
Best hope really, is a fresh approach.

If Zelensky stepped down and someone else took over, who the Trump administration felt they could work with, that would resurrect things perhaps.

Only trouble is, how do Ukrainian hold any elections, when they are getting constantly bombed, day in day out?

He’s not a well versed diplomat and quite confrontational. He’s offended the Biden administration and a few European states.

Trump is someone you don’t want to berate or risk humiliating in public and that’s exactly what Zelensky did.

If Zelensky stepped down it would be a pro-Russian who replaced him, unfortunately.

Lindsey has been particularly damning of him.
Again, it shows their number priority has and always been will be themselves.

His days are now numbered but no idea how they go about electing a new leader. They’ll probably end up with more pro-Russian leader. If peace had actually been sought peace last year, things would almost certainly have been better for Ukraine compared to now.

Now more so than ever because it's the platform upon which Trump was elected.

There you go and he said he’s never been so proud of a US president before… it’s not like a bad thing for the US to put US interests first.

Our number one priority should be ourselves. Look at the sorry state of our armed forces, we’re not in a position to project power even if we wanted too.

The way it was done wasn't great I admit

But what he's saying isn't exactly wrong is it? How will it end? Zelensky has had trillions out of the USA, UK and EU and wheres it gotten them?

Millions of people dead. The USA withdrawing all support is the only way this ends.

Putin is a proper c**t, no denying, but this war will just go on and on until one of Putin or Zelensky dies

As I stated before on the politics thread, I'm not big into politics so I can't be arsed with a massive debate over it, and how it started etc. It's how it ends that matters. Innocent people have been and are being killed while countries like us piss millions away on keeping it going whilst we withdraw pensioners heating allowances

Ok I want peace have said it from the start .. but let's look at it another way .

If we didn't fund the war millions would die anyway because Putin would roll through Ukraine without much opposition.

I think Trumps attitude today was appalling and not how global leaders should treat others

Peace has been sought.

The Minsk agreements were signed in 2015.

Russia broke those agreements and invaded Ukraine with Putin repeatedly attacking Ukraine's right to exist.

I'm not sure how historical precedent suggests that a Ukrainian capitulation of a peace deal is in the interests of Ukraine, Britain or the rest of Europe even if it might simplistically seem momentarily expedient.
