In exchange Russia keeps 20% of Ukraine, pays no reparations and Putin doesn’t get hanged for war crimes. And sanctions get lifted.
It’s just that NATO membership being conceded in return.

When Russia tried to put weapons on Americas door step (cuban misile crisis) it nearly started ww3
Why would Putin tolerate Nato missiles (or troops, or hardware) in Ukraine, which was always intended to be a neutral buffer zone, after the treaty that saw Ukraine give up its Neuclear weapons in 1994, in exchange for a peace agreement?
It was the violation of this neutral zone by the USA via the CIA that prompted this invasion.
(This can be researched by anyone willing to do the homework)
There's zero chance Putin would allow it, it would be a red line for Putin.
It's more likely that putin would demand a totally de-militarised Ukraine, with USA and Russian inspectors ensuring the neutrality is maintained.
This would probably suit Trump who would then be free to start mining the raw materials he wants for America.
Although I'm not sure that's such a great deal for Ukraine to be honest.

Russia already has 4 NATO members it shares borders with. At the end of the day, there has been a lot of talk about Ukraine having to make compromises, I see nobody in the ‘give peace a chance’ club on SBT saying what Russia should be conceding to make lasting peace a reality.
Ukraine in my scenario is conceding 20% of its territory, not getting compensation for the war and still has to rebuild towns and cities. It didn’t even start the conflict either. So I’m sorry, but if it doesn’t even get NATO membership then it’s just a glorified ceasefire before Putin returns.
