Pens in championship (1 Viewer)

Given the ref on Saturday hasn’t given a penalty in 24 games I thought I’d check their frequency

In the championship they are once every 4-5 games

So he’s seriously out of kilter from the average

Surely you’ve got to question it

What's the frequency in the prem with VAR

I wonder if Refs go through their last game to see what they did right and wrong? If not, they will never learn from errors they make.

I would imagine PL refs do, but not sure about EFL officials.

Yep absolutely debrief at that level and likely observer in stand does report and has discussion
He’s gonna give the most dodgy pen ever next match for sure

Yeah they definitely do. Sky did a segment with a ref a few weeks ago and it was quite fascinating (even as somebody who tries not to care about officiating at all).

Worth 10 mins of your time if you've got it.

it wasnt generally a dirty game
albeit it should have been a penalty and straight red for the keeper without doubt

Also Assistant referees - what are they there for - if there is a clear issue with a decision, they should be "Assisting" Most of them recently are even scared to give a throw in until the ref signals

I don’t think it was worthy of a penalty and a red card because of the double jeopardy law. When Lampard said ‘it’s a foul anywhere else on the pitch’, it’s a fair comment to make and in my mind, a clear penalty.

The most egregious thing was missing the offside for their 2nd goal because that could’ve had a material effect on the result and the playoff race.

Let’s not forget Anthony Taylor gave Preston a penalty for McFadzean ‘attempting to foul’ a player.

Was the referee yesterday from the Prem? If so, it explains a lot because they’re so reliant on VAR to make any difficult decisions on their behalf.
I don’t know, but if Pete is right and he hasn’t given any in over 20 games that tells me he’s too scared to give one. The problem with that is that not giving a penalty that should be given causes you just as many problems as giving ones that aren’t.

It tells me he’s not a good referee. I can’t get my head around it because if Stoke’s keeper doesn’t stick his leg out, EMC has an open goal to score. What is his criteria for a penalty?!

So for all the people quoting xG in the assessment of the game, things like EMC being fouled and their equaliser being offside isn’t reflected in those stats.

The double Jeopardy law? That only applies if you are making an actual attempt to play the ball which the keeper wasn't

Would love to know what his linesman said. The same linesman who allowed an offside equaliser admittedly

They were probably smelling each other’s farts telling each other how great they all are.

Football referees can learn a lot of lessons from rugby referees. They might not get all the calls correct, but there’s a clear, rational decision making process and they’re not so reliant on VAR to make decisions for them.

In fact, in the 6 Nations yesterday, the TMO raised something and the referee flat out disagreed with him.

was the keeper making a genuine attempt to play the ball - arguable either way, but I would say he was out of control, so therefore would be a red

I was interested in being awarded a penalty rather than a penalty and a card.

At 3-0, the game is wrapped up.

There's the angle from behind goal which shows the keeper kicked out his leg further to stop EMC. And as I said at the time, his face said it all when he was on the ground, that 'ah well, fucked it'.

Surely given all the media interest and controversy from all the 'pundits', perhaps the review committee should be taking a look at Johannsonn's actions. Must be reckless and endangering another player, as he was out of control star-jumping with his leg into EMC's midriff?? EMC had already played the ball past him and if it had gone in, a goal would be awarded, so he wasn't playing the ball just the man.
I don't know where you draw the line if this isn't given a retrospective ban!
