Burnley *are* side set up to win ugly, and instructed to do all they can to disrupt a game, not all of those things within the laws of the game.

Would I want Burnley's success? Of course. Would I want to watch a team that is set up to play that way every week? No. Would I make the trade off of their success for turgid football every week? I don't know, to be honest; games like that are hard to watch even if you're winning.

Was I impressed by them? It's hard not be impressed by a team that's only conceded 12 all season, and you can see why they've achieved that. They were nothing to write home about as an attacking force, though, and one thing's for sure, they're not going to get away with being that next season.

There's a question that's taken a bit of googling to remember which was which.

88-89 my favourite.

Others standing out as having enjoyed: 89-90; 98-99; 99-00; the first lot of Championship years were turgid, but 01-02 had some enjoyable moments, as did some of 03-04; Coleman's years were generally terrible; I hardly saw any of it, but the team deserved huge credit for the 13-14 Northampton season; half of 15-16; all of the Robins era up until this season (play-off season my second most enjoyable supporting the club).

86-87 is why I'm a fan, so I can't include that (from the quarters on, I was hooked).

I guess this is getting at that the most enjoyable are the seasons where where we've achieved something, no matter how it's achieved? Perhaps, but mainly I like to see us score loads of goals.

We escaped relegation one season with truly dire games against Stoke and Luton. We won both and any fan would rather we had won a dire game than lost trying to play attractive football.

One of my stand out games was a dire match at Highbury when Dave Bamber scored a winner against any odds possible with about 200 fans in the away end.

I don’t remember any exciting games we lost with any satisfaction

Their defensive work was impressive but not much going on attacking wise. My view is that he’s prioritising the defensive coaching of the team in preparation for the Prem.

You’d take winning games as they do if it meant promotion.

Never really as dour as all that, though, were they.

Partly Graham's personality and a well-drilled offside trap gave them the 'boring Arsenal' reputation. They frequently battered teams in that era.

FIFA isn't the issue here, it's the refereeing in this country. In the previous two world cups the refs have been perfectly happy to let play continue while some fanny rolls about in faux agony. Every time a world cup rolls around the refereeing always stands out to me (sad I know!).

Time wasting can also be controlled by the refs to a degree, start dishing out yellows for players taking the piss and it would soon stop.

I agree its partly about refs ignoring the faux agony, but their main job is to look after the wellbeing of players, so surely there should be another process retrospective taking retrospective action!

The whole point of their faking is to trick the referee, so the onus shouldn't be on the referee to make the call.

Some panel could just look back at games and anyone who rolls around in agony, then makes a miraculous recovery 10s later gets a suspension - easy.

Which isn't all that impressive when you consider their budget far outstrips the majority of their opponents. It's their ability to stop goals that's impressive.

Whether you're impressed with them or not, or whether you would swap a more expansive style for theirs if it meant an improvement or not, you cannot argue they are anything other than difficult to watch. Not with a straight face, anyway (or if you genuinely enjoy watching the 'dark arts' - this might be true, of course).

I work with a Burnley season ticket holder and he's often spoken about how boring their games are this season and hasn't been to a number of games.

I think the issue is Grendel is that they have a very recent comparison of a hugely entertaining promotion season. He said it's light and day between now and the Kompany season.

I'm with Robins on this; I don't like it. I also see that it's silly if we're the only ones not doing it.

Many's opinion on Sheffield United isn't fair, and based on an image they have of the club itself, not on the football their current team plays.

I *was* impressed with them. They played quite similarly to we did in the play-off year (albeit with a stronger squad, and so better); allow the opposition possession and then hit them fast on the break moving the ball quickly and incisively. There's one very clear link between those two sides, of course.

They were a good watch; I would have enjoyed their performance against us had I been a neutral.

I don't think it's sour grapes to dislike how Burnley go about winning games. Ultimately, they won;t give a shit, but you don't have to like it.
