BOOKMAKERS yesterday slashed the odds on Coventry City’s Mark Robins to replace Dean Saunders in the Rovers hot seat.

Compensation has now been agreed with Coventry. A fee believed to be in the region of 500k

The sky Blues are now in talks with former manager Terry Butcher who is set for a dramatic return.

Robins moved to odds-on favourite, overtaking early market leader Steve Lomas, after a surge of money for the former Rotherham and Barnsley boss.

Rovers chairman John Ryan is known to be a huge admirer of Robins following his sterling work in South Yorkshire.
" We have often paid fees for players. However rarely have we invested in arguably the most important role in a team the manager, well that has now changed and re-affirms our desire for an instant return to the championship"

Links between Doncaster and Coventry have blossomed in recent weeks after Rovers officials lent their support and advice to the Sky Blues regarding the Midlands club’s well documented debt problems.

Coventry chairman Tim Fisher " I cannot hide the fact that current negotiations regarding the extortionate rent we our getting forced to pay, has influenced this decision. Half a million pounds is vital to us to finance the legal fees for this battle"

Robins, did not come cheaply. The 43-year-old signed a three-year deal with Coventry as recently as last September.

Since then the former Manchester United striker has transformed his new club from relegation candidates to promotion hopefuls.
