Cov fans mentality (2 Viewers)

Before i begin, i just want to say i am fucking over the moon with the result today, i managed to some how convince my dad that the game would be better in the cold at the ricoh than in the warm pub, and im so so glad he caved! Im immensly proud of the lads tonight, i was close to tears at 85mins, and at 95 id lost my voice and cut my leg on the seat infront, incredible scenes and the whole stand singing que sera sera is probably my best ever moment at a cov match.

But i do have to say that some fans are bloody awful! There were 5-6 old blokes sat in the row infront of me, constantly berating their own team and especially mcsheffrey, jordan clarke and baker. They all left straight after the second preston goal (says it all) calling murphy all the names under the sun for not making "an easy save".
Football is a game of opinions and i have no problem with that, but atleast justify them in some way, all game they said how we lacked urgency and when mcsheffrey played a one touch pass to almost put clarke through, they berated him for not taking his time.

And then on forums such as this and GMK, there are bemusing posts about how awful jordan clarke was? I didnt see that at all, i thought he played a solid match, was sometimes guilty of over complicating a situation, but he is a league 1 player. Same for mcsheffrey, we know hes not the quickest, or the best in the air, but robins plays him for a reason, and its not like we lack depth in midfield.
I just think alot of our fans expect so much, almost too much from our players, they are going to make mistakes, going to misplace a pass or over hit a cross once or twice a game.
But if they play with the desire and never say die attitude displayed in injury time tonight, i couldnt give a flying fuck.

Armchair fans used to watching premier league players on sky in their pants on a saturday rolling up to the ricoh cause its a fiver, fantastic, fill the stand, but expect league 1 standard football

Totally agree, the bloke three seats from me has had it in for Baker all season. Even when he gets a run of goals as soon as he miscues one pass he's on him again.

Totally agree about the atmosphere tonight, amazing. When the equalizer rolled in the place went crazy and when we got the winner it went off the scale!

I cannot make the final at Wembley if we make it due to being out the UK on that day but you can bet I will make the semis home and away!

Listen, I agree completely with your sentiment BUT how can you expect all football fans to be balanced, intelligent and reasonable?
Dare say there were a fair few ex cons there tonight, a few wife beaters and the odd kiddie fiddler along with the unbalanced, unreasonable and stone cold thick.
Wasn't the problem that you couldn't move to sit alongside a more discerning bunch cos the stand was full.
Cov, like every other team in the land, will have its fair share of negatively stupid boneheads but just don't know why you expect it to be any different.?

I think everyone who left before 90 minutes should be made to parade round the pitch so we can laugh at them

its been the same for 30 years im afraid! in the year we won the cup people used to moan about Benno being lazy! and I fear for Clarke up front as he is quite similar to Best and we know how that went

Couldn't agree more. The thing with CCFC is its the majority who are clueless.
If our players made no mistakes, played faultless games week in week out, they would be playing 2 divisions higher.
All you can ask for from players with less ability is 100% effort and commitment, and I feel under robins we see that from our players.

Bloke 2 seats along from me was clearly a baker hater. He berated him once and I had to turn and say to him it was mcsheffrey, to which he said "he's useless as well". Fantastic support that hey.

Overall last night I thought we were poor by recent standards, but we won. Sign of a good team they say

I totally agree on most points. Clarke had a decent game and has some great touches (although this can sometimes put him in trouble), Baker was excellent for me last night and another unsung hero at Coventry. I was amazed about all of the crosses that he put in and good link up play and the fans were not cheering his name!! Why don't they like Bakes???

There was another comment about sheffers, Ede misplaced a pass in the first half which was about 20 yards short and fans were shouting to sheffers about not getting it?? I really worry about some fans knowledge or maybe just the volume of alcohol at the time!!

I actually thought Preston were slightly the better side on the night but we shown great team spirit and really needed that win to boost confidence against after spurs. well done boys.

I was gonna say the same, Clarke chased down plenty of balls and was a nuisance, saying that, i think Robins needs to play 2 up front though, especially at home, Clarke looked isolated last night.

I quite liked my seats in block 22, but until the whole stand started going in the second half i wished i was in singers corner making a bit of noise. I understand what your saying but it doesnt seem to be just a majority of fans that instantly jump on certain players backs, there isnt a current cov player i dont like, and would love to join in and sing songs about captain fantastic baker last night, but that doesnt happen, but leon clarke, who didnt have a spectacular game, whether thats because he's a bit rusty and it was just hoofed to him alot, or because he's not very good, had his name sang after he scored a tap in.
Good way to make him feel appreciated though.

Just think we need to start supporting players like mcsheffrey, clarke and baker, because they are almost ever present and deserve to be.

negativity needs to stop

the sighing, tutting and booing of tiny things like 1 misplaced pass,or picking the wrong option, going back to keeper just puts the players off trying anything special.

get behind them wether you think a particular player is good or not.

Says Mr negativity :D

what?

so 2 weeks ago im mr "silly and naive for thinking well make top 6"

and now im "mr negativity"?

doesnt make sense does it

look if you wanna blindy shower every player with praise you go for it,but dont label those that can see a game for what it is negative

We had one guy screaming at Murphy to be sent 'back to Scunthorpe' due to conceding two goals that were clearly the result of deflections.

Also, Leon Best wasn't a lazy waster. It's that kind of thing that sees players with ability hounded over limited huff and puff merchants.

As the Telegraph was closed we sat in the Lloyds Pharmacy - in line with the six yard line - and there were a crowd behind us, constantly moaning, moaning, moaning all the way through about Baker, McSheff, Wood and especially Leon Clarke - I was so pleased that they went home at 90 minutes saying how crap we are "can't hold on to a lead", "McGoldrick was better", "thanks a lot SISU", etc etc. :p

What a night, superb, loved it. I do agree with MR though, we didn't play that well. Personally I thought Baker was tremendous again and easily man of the match. Leon Clarke is no David McGoldrick I'm afraid, time will tell but playing that role up front you have to come for the ball as much as expect it over the top and he's inviting the killer pass all the time. McGoldrick was such a success in that role because he collected and played the midfielders in as a 4-5-1 should work. It will take a bit of time I suppose to get him to do it our way but David MG sitting amongst Ipswichs plethora of strikers is a great loss to CCFC. I thought we were better with Moussa on the pitch and to be fair Elliot made a few good touches when he came on too.

Totally agree mate, but also have to admit that i sometimes fall into a similar trap. For example, last night i wanted Sheffers subbed off, he was irritating me, not quite sure why but I overlooked all the possitive work and focussed on the negative. I didnt boo or berate him but i still wanted him subbed off. Then i went home and watched it on TV and saw that he actually had quite a good game and without him i dont think we would have been as dangerous. Similar with clarke, spent the game thinking he didnt actually do much but then watching it on TV saw that he was houding people and making some really good space. I guess it may be possible that i was just so happy by the time i was watching on TV that i concentrated on possitives instead?

All im saying is in the heat of the moment its easy to fall into the trap of focussing on negatives after a player has made one or two mistakes, subsequent mistakes stand out more.

Agree about Baker too, why do we never hear his name chanted? Think he was MOTM last night!

I think Clarke just needs a few games to get going. He seemed to be strong and his positioning was there, just a little less sharp than you'd hope.

That is true. But there are definitely fans at the game that haven't a clue and pick up on negative vibes about a player without the intelligence to reassess their "opinion"!

Its so difficult with football - I know alot of friends who will moan, probably more than I would like to hear, and sometimes at the littlest things, but then I also know some of these friends are true genuine fans who love the club. I cant have too much of a go at them for caring enough that they moan at any slightly stray pass, even though it frustrates me.

But I do know what you mean. I still think to an extent its hard for alot of people to appriciate and get their heads around the fact we are a League 1 team. They may appriciate we arent a Premiership side but they still think a home game against a lowly team like Preston should be an automatic win, hence the early booing

I agree about clarke, think after a few games he'll be a real threat to any defence, didnt robins say he hadnt played for 6 weeks before joining us or something, and with a new player i think the old cliche of them needing time is true.

Tbh i wanted mcsheffrey subbed too, but not because i thought he was playing poorly, just because i thought we needed a striker to support clark and the other midfielders were doing well, its just annoying to constantly hear them being berated all the time,
Like, if elliot runs around attempting to close people down, its "well played son, get in there" if mcsheffrey does it its "ohh youve got to be quicker mcsheffrey for fuck sake bla bla bla"

Wish we could all just get behind the team as a whole, as this looks like it could be our most succesful season for a long time,

And RE the baker thing, is it because "baker" is quite hard to generate a song around, the actual word i mean. Not enough syllables?

mcsheff seems to have found space cutting in to the middle of the park, he cannot do players down the line anymore so i hope he continues to cut in

he could have had 2 brilliant long range goals to his name after shrews and last night, hes playing well

I think in general the City fans have got behind their team superbly this season. The followings to Arsenal, Spurs and MK Dons were fantastic and the 10,000 plus crowds for the JPT games have been tremendous. Considering all the off field bullshit and a crippling economic downturn, not to mention the early season debacles with Thorn and Shaw etc the City fans everywhere have really rallied this season. Our illustrious owners despite their stance will have benefited from 7 extra home games this season as well. I think personally I've been to 21 matches already, 2012/2013 could be the most for me in a few years all told plus I've bought plenty of tickets for the family. This is the best I've felt about CCFC for perhaps 6 years after we beat Man Utd.

Leaving games before the final whistle is a travesty. Your football team's like a tattoo, it's with you for life. To walk out before the end of the match in my opinion shows utter disrespect and is not what being a "supporter" is about. Through thick and thin, better or worse. They're human beings playing football on that pitch, it's not some rehearsed show. The players need us more than we need them. That's what it's about. You can let them know you're unhappy with their performance, but don't leave early.

I'm a teacher right! If I'm unhappy with my student's work, do I stop teaching them and walk out the room? :thinking about:

I've only left early twice, when we lost 4-0 to Watford, I left when it went 3-0, I was in a horrible mood that day before the game and from Barnett's mistake, I was unbelievably pissed off! I couldn't take it, so me and my mate left and had a long, evaluative talk about the season on the walk home.

2nd was Notts County this season, I was running late for work, so I left so I could get there just after I was supposed to be there, I got about half way round, I missed our goal and thought "fuck it" I'll watch the rest of the game. Got a bollocking when I got in to work, but it was worth it.

Was that Watford match the one which was Colemans last game?
