Kilbane explains Crewe outburst (8 Viewers)

Not sure if this has been talked about on here (not going back pages to have a look, sorry mods if you have to move this).

In the Coventry Observer, Kevin Kilbane has explained that he told a fan to 'feck off' in the game V Crewe after the fan shouted just before a throw in 'you deserve to have a disabled daughter' towards Kilbane whos daughter has Down's syndrome.

I was there but admit i didnt hear this bit if it did happen i think alot of fans should be the ones apologising to him! Many made judgments about his actions without knowing the facts and i think most of those would have acted in the same way had they been in that situation with a disabled child!

Most of all i think that fan should be ashamed!

Seems the Crewe game attracted all sorts of behaviours as this was also the ballboy-gate game!

Funny, at the time people - some who didn't even go - were slagging him off. Glad he's come out and said what it was all about. Fans seem to think they can attack players and expect no reaction in return.

Was trying to post a thread on this last night and crashed it ,but IMO he was rightly justified with his response to that supporter ,but I thought he was anyway ,regardless of how inept the team were performing ,and they were ,if you dish it ,you have to be able to take it.

Couldnt agree more! Shame it didnt work out better for him here, but in the short time he was here he was nothing but a model professional

Being at the football is too often a cover for people to behave like twats. If you behave in a way that is likely to cause distress to someone, in public, then you can be arrested. Too many people think a football ground should be an exception for some reason.

Don't care how much players get paid, having to listen to abuse like that is not part of the job description.

Why should they ignore it! So where would you draw the line? Say someone deserved to have cancer, deserved to have his spouse die? It doesn't matter how much they are paid its to do with mutual respect. So if someone abused a youth player who is not paid well its ok for him to respond as he doesn't get paid much!

Think more people were on his side to be fair.

But were a lot of people having a dig hence kilbane even apologised.

Kilbane is a top bloke and had an amazing career. What a shame his last few memories of playing football are of city fans abusing him, when basically he was taking the blame for a relegation before his time

Strange that no-one on here heard the alleged remark, no one has backed this up or suggested at the time it was something distasteful. I was a few rows from the front where his reply was aimed at, none of us heard that.

But surely it's the main responsibility should be on each person who attends a match not to act like a moron rather than stewards to do something if they do.

I don't think even the most restrained, media trained person would be able to ignore it. They might not all react how Kilbane did, but I can't see how somebody couldn't react.

You wouldn't ignore it you would naturally be very angry. I cannot see any reason why Kilbane would make it up.

For some reason some of our supporters hate older players if they struggle. Some of the abuse Colin Hendry received was vile.

Yes I agree. To make it up when the incident is long forgotten makes no sense. He seems a nice guy when I see him on sky.

If it was in the street you would clearly tell any such person to fuck off, if not chin them. But as a pro you are paid to ignore such shite - if it's really bad, like htis or racism, report it to the ref...but by the rules of the game he was out of order to send some abuse back to the fan...
