Bayern Munich have confirmed that former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola will take over as their manager at the end of the season.

The 41-year-old has signed a three-year contract to June 2016.

Guardiola will replace current boss Jupp Heynckes, who will retire at the end of the season.

He has been on a season-long sabbatical since leaving the Nou Camp in May 2012. after winning 14 trophies - including two Champions League titles.

Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: "Pep Guardiola is one of the most successful coaches in the world and we are sure that he can make not just Bayern, but all of German football shine."

Great appointment, there is the usual question of whether he had a 'easy' job at Barca but personally think that is a nonsense. You dont run over Madrid on a regular basis and not be a competent manager.

On Talksport they were hilariously claiming he'd 'bottled it' by taking the easy route at Bayern rather than the WHIZBANG SUPERWORLD MEGATASTIC PREMIER LEAGUE. I assume that whoever takes over full-time at Chelsea will be accused of bottling it and taking the easy route rather than hold out for a Championship job.

I thought going Bayern was an easy choice, domestically, but it is clear that he'll have to win Champions' Leagues.

In fairness, where else can he go? Chelsea and AC? Owners are too volatile and do their players suit his system? PSG? Even easier route, shit league as well, Manchester City? Mancini is doing a good job, Man U? The best in the business Fergie not retired yet, Real Madrid? Lol.

When I seen Tito Vilanova have a relapse of his cancer, I thought he was going to steps own and Pep would take over, but Tito is staying on, massive respect for him, so Barca return for Pep - yet!

The Bundesliga is on the verge of overtaking the the Premiership, so, could be a very, good move for Pep. I'd like to see him manage Spain in the future.

Exactly, they're not hiring a coach with recent experience of winning the Champions League in order to just be German champs again, and he's gone to a club with history and prestige that doesn't also happen to resemble a circus. It looks a very shrewd and smart move on the face of it, even if it's thrown a few insular premier league 'pundits' noses out of joint.
