I took my arsenal supporting mate to the oldham game on saturday, not his first time at the ricoh but his first for a while. He's a big arsenal fan, been to the emirates a few times and i asked him what he thought of cov players and the ground/fans.
His main points were:

It seems as if mcsheffrey could score a hat-trick, set up 3 more and make a goal line clearance and still be called a twat when he gets subbed off.
The ricoh is deadly quiet during some parts of the game, he said how at arsenal the fans are loud and behind their team from the off, whereas we seem to wait for a goal or a key moment before getting louder.
Both fullbacks impressed him, aswell as the hero that is james bailey.
He said edge was good, but couldnt see why i worship him:(
Clarke was shit

And said that the fans are very fickle and quick to attack certain players, etc.

However i did get him to buy a cov shirt and convince him to get a ticket for the crewe home game, what does he wanna support arsenal for anyway? Its all about the hometown club!!

What do we think? He didnt make any points i didnt already think anyway and nothing groundbreaking, but interesting to get an "almost" neutral opinion

Sheffers gets called shit because he could score a hat-trick and doesn't. He doesn't even score once

I never take the opinion of arm chair fans seriously, how the fuck can they say anything about anything? The only thing they tend to know about football, is what Gary Lineker and Alan Hansen tell them!

Fair play for trying though.

He bought a shirt as part of me trying to convert him.

His parents are cov fans and so he was too young to travel on his own to highbury.

And well, they're louder than cov? And maybe thats what he has to compare against? Im sure your right and if he went to a different louder ground would agree.

What do I think? I think he's a glory hunting knob who should have supported his home team. Do we really need fans like him anyway?

I think he's envious, secretly, and deeply regrets following Arse who, let's face it, is team for twats.
The Wenger culture of 200 passes between highly paid foreign players has ruined English football and costs £62 quid a throw. It's a con and belatedly the penny has dropped.
Cov will never compete with the artificiality of Premier League "football" - we're better off where we are.....winning matches and possibly the JPT!!!

Probably knows who scored the winner Saturday though.

Truth hurts sometimes. Im in Block 15 as season ticket holder & around me there appear random "Fans" who call Leon Clarke "Fukin Shit" & "Hold the ball you useless Fuckin twat".
& as for Sheff "The worst player ever" & "c**t c**t c**t". I cringe sometimes !!

Arsenal's ground would have been silent: had it been for us. Shit fans on that day. Spoke to a few fans that said no season tickets that game, so all the "first timers" were going.
And I suppose we get on players' backs because we care too much ;)

Every time I watch Arsenal on TV and they zoom in on the crowd it's full of foreign tourists with cameras round their necks posing for photos.

I know! As good as that area is for the atmosphere, you do have to endure some real morons.

There's also many people who exempt Sheff from any wrong-doing... There's that balance I suppose.

Take the playing ratings for instance, Sheff got 7 for 'hard work' whilst others get 4s or 5s for the same hard work and similar output (not just Fleck, there's others), he is overrated, or people turn a blind eye when he does something bad because he's a Coventry lad.

What, and you don't get that at Arsenal? The fans that boo their team off most weeks, and who are known for having been guilty of some extremely vitriolic and nasty targetting of players in the past, remember Eboue (that was a big news story ffs)?

Silly thread. How can you possibly make direct comparisons between a leading Premiership club and a mid-table 3rd division club?

Put it this way though, a packed out Ricoh would be far more atmospheric than a packed out Emirates. The Crewe game will be like watching a different football club.

Exactly...pointless thread...Arsenal are the worse fans around.

New fans who may attend matches? Yes, and lots of them.

Disagree, even without the plastics we should have a big enough fan base at the Ricoh. All we need is some success and consistency for the fans to return when match days become fun again.

If this guy could be convinced to come regularly now, surely that would be less 'plastic' than people staying away just because we're not successful.

I think we should compile an official table of fans you're better than so we can avoid this mistake in future. We can use it to discourage people we don't approve of.

On the flip side people get on his back for the very same reason.

He should run faster, work harder, shoot straighter, cross better, pass better, dribble better, tackle stronger because he's from cov and should care more, therefore he should be trying harder.

I have never said he should do all those stuff, but I agree with what you say, there is 2 extremes but although I don't like Sheff as a player, I'd consider myself neutral.
