We need to make the right choice.

No point rushing things and making the wrong one.

HE'S IN TEMPORARY CONTROL AS QUEUE FORMS TO BE NEXT BOSS

LEE Carsley is in temporary charge of Coventry City following Mark Robins's departure to Huddersfield Town.
The development squad manager will take training today when the Sky Blues players return to Ryton after their usual Wednesday off and will make the selection and tactical decisions before they face Bury at Gigg Lane on Saturday.

Robins is expected to be unveiled as the Terriers' new boss today. Phil Brown, interviewed for the job after Andy Thorn was sacked in August, has already confirmed his interest in the vacancy and City say they have had inquiries from a string of other `high-calibre' managers.

Carsley assisted Richard Shaw when he was caretaker boss after Thorn's early season dismissal, ironically following a 2-2 home draw against the Shakers.

And although that spell was something of a disaster despite a spectacular Capital One Cup coup against Birmingham City, City's board are looking to the former Ireland international to steady the ship.

Development director Steve Waggott, embarking on another head-hunting exercise five months after he thought he had found the perfect man for the job, confirmed: “Lee will look after the team assisted by Steve Ogrizovic and we are very lucky to have two great football men, both with the club very much at heart, who can take care of things on the pitch while we work behind the scenes.

“It will be very much business as usual for the team. We have to ensure we continue the progress we have been making.“

Waggott was swamped with calls from managers and agents as soon as City reluctantly gave Huddersfield permission to talk to Robins.

“As of Wednesday evening, Mark Robins was still in discussion with Huddersfield but we have already started planning ahead because we have an important game on Saturday and still have a huge amount to play for this season. “There won't be a knee-jerk reaction but we have to move relatively quickly, although we must follow a process to get the right person in to pick up the managerial baton and drive us on. Of course, we didn't want to be in this position again but the fact that we went through this process five months ago means much of the groundwork has already been done.

“There are new candidates out there now because of the nature of football and, because we are in a much stronger position than we were in August, it makes the job of Coventry City manager an even more attractive proposition.

“Again, we've had approaches from some high-calibre candidates and we have to start the process now.“

Probably meaning all the usual worms coming out of the woodwork again, i.e. Phil Brown etc. Links himself with every job going.

I said yesterday on here that I reckon Carsley will get a shot at it.

Worth a try I suppose.

Do Fisher and Waggott ever learn anything !!!!

Lets put someone in charge whose already had a go at it,even though as co manager, and who failed miserably and who picked a team that lost 4-1 at European giants Shrewsbury plus 3 losses to Crewe, Stevenage and Tranmere where the football was widely recognised as completely aimless.
If in the end he decides to employ Brown or Ince then i want to see his smug face watch as we play in front of 5000 fans as they are as much clueless as Carsley.
Here's an idea Timmy and Stevie, lets employ someone whose been succesfull over more than one season.

Yea Timmy give it to Carsley,Brown or Ince

NNnnnnnnooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!

Okay, here's one for you. Would you prefer Carsley or Phil Brown?

At least we would know with Carsley it would be temporary and he could step back down once a new manager was installed.

With Brown we will be stuck with him and will have to sack him 6 months down the line.

While the names of Brown, Ince and Megson are being bounded about I think I would be happier if we stick with Carsley now until we get the right man.

like shaw was?

Shaw was the main man in charge. We don’t know how much input Carsley had into it. What you’re implying is that for every manager that fails in any job, it’s always the assistants’ fault too.

Carsley will make a better manager than Shaw IMO. He did very well managing the U18 squad and had a better playing career than Shaw (which I am fully aware is not always an indicator of a good manager, but it can only help).

Well i think Brown would be a disastrous appointment.

Remember reading up on fans views of him last time he was linked and he had an awful lot of dissenters at Preston and Derby. An awful lot of people seemed to really think he was a terrible manager.

The bloke has linked himself with a number of jobs and no-one has employed him. Think that may be with very good reason.

what im actually implying is that after AT left and RS came in, the same things were probably said about might as well give Shaw a go

Well, in view of the ongoing rent thing and the war of words seemingly hotting up, surely only a good manager with half a brain would now come here wouldn't they?

Which kind of makes me think it will indeed be a mixture of Carsley/Oggy and Rioch as caretakers til the end of the season.

Anyone else concur?

Think we could easily get a very average manager or someone who has been out of work for an age and is desperate, but I can't see how anyone with a bit of nous about them and has quality touching us with a barge pole.

I know Robins came but there was hope then that a deal might have been reached. Now it all seems to have fallen apart and the two sides are further away than ever before with possible threats of winding up orders and us pulling out of the Ricoh.

Just can't see how anyone in their right mind and a bit of managerial talent will come anywhere near us at the mo.

I think Carsley could be a decent manager, forget the Shaw thing, shaw was calling the shots and as likeable as he is he was clueless, also as much as i love oggy he should stick to teaching the keepers, he shouldnt be in charge of anyone, hes a dinosaur and hes too nice#

How about we offer Jamie Carragher the job at the end of the season?think he'll be a good manager one day

Coventry City caretaker manager Lee Carsley:
"It's short-term. Literally, only I'm worried about the Bury game.
"My ambition is to be a manager one day, but I'm not in a rush. I'm still learning things.
"I've gone down the route of managing and coaching at youth level, which is the usual route a lot of foreign coaches go down.
"I'm not one of these players who felt I could go straight into management. I wanted to learn my trade."

Think that is very honest. Also think it maybe points out to him feeling he is not quite ready yet for management.

I do hope whoever comes in keeps both Carsley and Rioch in the back room team.

That just reads as lazy journalism from the Daily Mail. Written by someone who has never left London so just assumes because it is nearly March that the caretaker will be until the end of the season.

Strangely if we lose today we could wait till the end of the season, but if we win we need someone in place quick as we may still have an outside chance. Bit unfair on Carsley but true.

I pretty much agree with what Otis is saying

I pretty much agree with Otis here. After listening to Robins´s declarations from the video link, he certainly doesn´t paint too wonderful a picture for a would be candidate. We don´t know for sure if it´s all gospel, or some kind of lame excuse for his departure, but I don´t believe any manager worth his salt will be chomping at the bit to join us.
