Coventry City: Sky Blues shortlist four names for manager's job

Coventry are closing in on the appointment of a new manager, which could happen next week.
Keith Curle, Paul Dickov and former Sky Blues boss Eric Black are understood to be among four names on the shortlist.
Development director Steve Waggott insisted that current financial issues have not impacted on their search.
"We knew when we started the process of looking for a new manager that the deadline on our accounts was imminent, but our process continues," he said.
"Everyone knows that there are key off-the-field matters here at Coventry City but we have been working as hard as we possibly can behind the scenes to mitigate the effect they can have on the pitch."
“The important thing is that, whoever is manager of the club between now and the end of the season, they have the best possible squad available to make it a successful one”
Steve Waggott Coventry City development director

It is now almost three weeks since Mark Robins departed for Huddersfield.
Since then, Coventry have won three times on the road under caretaker boss Lee Carsley, but lost twice at home, and are ninth in League One, seven points adrift of the play-off places.
However, former Sky Blues midfielder Carsley is not believed to have applied for the job.
"We have kept all of the shortlisted candidates informed," added Waggott.
"And we have kept Lee Carsley fully briefed too because that is the right and proper thing to do.
"The important thing is that, whoever is manager of the club between now and the end of the season, they have the best possible squad available to make it a successful one."
Black, 49, who still lives in nearby Leamington, has not had a club since leaving his post as Blackburn Rovers assistant manager following the sacking of Henning Berg in January.
Three-times capped former England centre-half Curle, 49, has been seen at several recent Sky Blues games after being sacked by Notts County on 3 February.
And former Scotland striker Dickov, 40, sacked by Oldham Athletic a day later, is reported to have been present at Coventry's 2-1 home defeat by Swindon Town on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Coventry are still to resolve their year-long rent row with Ricoh Arena owners ACL.
Chief executive Tim Fisher has warned that insolvency remains a serious and imminent possibility after the club's bank accounts were frozen earlier this month.

Hopefully Sherwood is the other. Wouldn't mind him or Black. The thought of Dickov makes me shudder, I can't stand that wanker.

Carsley himself said he hasn't applied for the job and therefore his name isn't on the shortlist of potential manager to take over at the club!

He'll most probably want to stay as a coach though and I wouldn't have a problem with that!

Not wanting to seem harsh but this is a pointless thread. Source not required - it's pure speculation AGAIN...no quoted names from anyone in the decision making process that I'm aware of.

The last time we were looking for a manager Mark Robins was hardly mentioned and sort of came up on the rails and was definitely not a very popular choice amongst the many experts on here.

"Keith Curle, Paul Dickov and former Sky Blues boss Eric Black are understood to be among four names on the shortlist." I'd take that as them not being able to divulge their source but it sounds pretty believable and reasonable to me.

I think I'll take the one you haven't mentioned judging by that list.

Just quoting the quote in the OP and not doubting their journalism (for once), not my opinion on any of them! Although of the three it would be Black, Curle

and then Dickov. This far down.

I'm not sure when interviews are taking place exactly but Paul Dickov was in Selfridges in Manchester city centre about an hour ago.

I had hoped that would mean he wasn't in the running until I read this.

Okay, fine...IF just putting some quote marks around something you read in The Sun or on another post is what you consider "pretty believable & reasonable" to you that's okay with me.
I maintain that I have neither seen or heard anything to convince me of anyone specific on the shortlist...or indeed off it - although I don't fancy Mark Robins chances if he's thrown his hat into the ring

If it's to the end of the season then an interim manager postion would be more suitable to Black's experiences.
I could see that appointment more wisely acceptable under the circumstances and working with Carsley and see what can be achieved between now and May.

I would question the other two on the basis of why would you want to job short term?

I would be happy with Black in the short term and see where this football club is during the close season....if it still exist. ;)

Black is probably more likely to take it on short term too isn't he? He's local and knows a bit more about the club for sure.

I don't know if anyone has already done this but here's the link to the article...

So not pure speculation like you said ;)

I have to disagree..."understood" leaps at me. It doesn't say who it is understood by, or why it is understood - so for me it is of passing interest only. They are simply teasing to try to add substance to what they have not been able to get confirmed.

The latest odds are interesting.

Eric Black is coming in at 8/1, 5/1. More curious is Steven Pressley, who has moved to 3/1 and evens. Curle drifting a tad.

After 20 odd years of perpetual disappointment - no...I am not easily pleased as far as my beloved club goes. Can't help it...although look back at all my posts & you'll that once there is half a reason...I am one of the more positive among us.
