Rock. Journey. My Uncle was a fan in the early 80's, and through him I became a fan. I love good lyrics and guitar solos.

Wow that's too tough to answer as there are so many.

America in the 70's, Simply Red and The Police in the 80's. Robbie Williams 90's, Black Eyed Peas in the 00's. Are some of the stuff I enjoyed.

It's an impossible task.

Grew up with Oasis and the Roses, so they'll always be up there. From earlier than that - stones, Beatles, pixies, nirvana. From more recently there really is only a couple - arcade fire and arctic monkeys. I like other stuff but those really are the main ones.

Difficult…..but off the top of my head (and still loads I’d forget about):

Classical – Not really into classical, but like Vaughan Williams’ Lark Ascending

60s – I had a scooter for 30 years until last year so have been a little moddy boy for a lot of my life so Motown, Northern plus 60s garage stuff like the Shadows Of Knight, 13th Floor Elevators, Electric Prunes, etc plus The Beatles, The Monkees, The Beach Boys, Love, Buffalo Springfield, Scott Walker

70s – Buzzcocks, Be Bop Deluxe/Bill Nelson, Harmonia, Cluster, Kraftwerk, Can, Neu!, Popul Vuh, Amon Duul, Roxy, La Dusseldorf, a bit of Bowie, Pink Floyd, Thin Lizzy, Sparks, New Musik, Jeff Wayne’s War Of The Worlds,

80s – Human League (prefer the original line-up), DAF, Josef K, Paul Haig, Orange Juice, China Crisis, Hurrah!, The Big Dish, Nick Heyward, The Blue Nile, Thomas Leer, Pale Fountains, Shack, The Church, The Bible, John Foxx, Summerhill, OMD, DM, Simple Minds (but only first three LPs – I hated the stadium rock rubbish), Talk Talk, Propaganda, Act, Claudia Brucken

90s – Inspiral Carpets, The Strands, Karl Bartos

00s – The Coral, Richard Hawley

Other stuff: Lalo Schifrin, John Barry, Bruno Nicolai, Morricone, Easy Listening, Soundtracks, Lounge, Library Music. In fact, why not check out my blog: http://loungetastic.blogspot.com
Jazz – Jimmy Smith, Quincy,

Anything from the psychedelic era (late 60's - early 70's), Tangerine Dream, Brian Eno, Roger Fripp, King Crimson, the God who is Bob Dylan, Lennon, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Queen. The list is really endless. Can't stand 80's and 90's crap. And don't get me started on what's around today!

Not psychedelic. They were a rock band. They only had one half-decent thing - Silver Machine. In fact, wasn't that all they did?

Space fantasy rock using synthesisers and a unique audio generator which when directed at the audience would make individuals pass out. Had a resident poet and naked dancers. Done over 25 albums. Tangerine dream and gong are sort of comparable.

Did you say your brother had the shop in gosford street? Did he sell second hand vinyl? I have a limited edition search in space album - I'm sure I got it from there.

Correct Grendel.
Deano - I don't know that Phil Oakeys brother ever worked there! I've had connections with the shop from when it first opened in 1973, with the first owner, Pete Neale who now lives in Spain. I've been connected with it ever since - until it was sold by my brother, Phil - who bought it from Pete in 1980 and sold it in 2002 to someone who set it up as an Arab restaurant. I have heard on the grapevine that it was briefly tried as some sort of record shop in recent years, but I know that only 2 guys ever owned Hits and Misses - Pete Neale and my brother Phil.

I rang up once when I was at school and spoke to him. Just mumbled something like "tell Phil I think he's great!". I've seen the League many times over the years and even saw the original line-up when I was 13! Those first two albums are fantastic.

Correct, he is my father in law!!!
