Are we awash with centre backs? (1 Viewer)

As the summer approaches just which ones should leave? The emphasis on 'should'.

Wood can command a fee, McPake also and with Turner Cranie, Cameron and Keogh should we look to cash in on Wood and McPake? Good centre backs but not perhaps in the AT style of play?

How much cash are Wood and McPake worth?

I persoanlly see keough more of a right back.

I rate McPkae highly, but struggle to see him gettin in the team ahead of Crainie and a fit again Turner.

I think Crainie has excelled at CB and will be favourite to partner Turner for next season!

Id send Cameron on a season long loan somewhere, and have wood,craine,turner and mcpake as our 4 centre backs , if I had to sell 1 it would b mcpake as I don't think u will get a full season from him

We have an awesome array of centre backs. Wood, McPake, Turner, Cranie, Cameron, Keogh.

Personally I'd rate Turner and McPake as our best CB and Keogh as more of an attacking full back. But with Cranie being our most composed and versatile player, he's going to be hard to leave out and so would Wood with him being an absolute DEMON in the air, especially from attacking corners and free kicks.

I agree with ccfc1973 that we could send him out on loan. He already had a season at Nuneaton so sending him out again couldn't do much harm, he'd just boss the lower leagues with his strength and that would give him confidence.

i think we should stay as we are. i agree with sending cameron out on loan to gain more exp. my prefered 2 to stat would be turner and wood but like chris said i carnt see how he can leave craine out every week as from what i can see from him he will play anywhere on the pitch and do a job for us.

But wouldn't that leave us short if we picked up a few injuries?

We might as well keep all of them but I think Cranie's contract might be up next year and he must earn a bit more than the rest given that we bought him from a then premier league club so for economic reasons I reckon Cranie would be the most likely to go

that would be such a problem as most loans are recallable in emergancy etc

Wood and Turner would be my first choice in the center of our defense both are solid and the right and left foot combination keeps it balanced.
I also don't class Keogh as a center back but our first choice right full back.
Crainie has been so consistent for us so would keep him at the club
Cameron is still learning his trade and will make mistakes so can send him on loan and let him make the mistakes elsewhere
McPake would be the one defender we could cash in on....

I love Mcpake an Turner an see them as defensively our best CB, however there distribution is generally very poor which is not what we are wanting. Cranie is our most composed defender an the best with the ball at his feet so I can see the back line next season being something like this
Keogh----Cranie---Mcpake/Turner---Hussey

as things are at the moment hussey is our only real option at left back but after watching him yesterday. am i the only person who thinks he pulls out of 50/50 challenges

Good call. Although might be worth only making the loans 3 months at a time for backup reasons.

There are limits on the number of times one player can be loaned, and they can only play for 2 clubs per season.

Any loan would be best of being a season long loan with a 24 hour recall clause. These issues wont crop up then, but we'd still have the security there if we needed him back.

agreed if we sold one for me it would be wood but I still think turner will go as he will command the highest figure.

To go back to the origional question, I don't see any reason why any of our CB's "should" leave?

I've always thought (or the way I play FM anyway!) that a squad should have a back up for each every position. E.g 2 RB's, 2 LB's and 4 CB's.

I agree with most people on here that Cameron should go out on loan, leaving us with Turner, McPake, Cranie & Wood.

I see Keogh as a RB, Clarke as back up. Hussey currenly first choice LB, with O'Halloran back up (although preffrably let O'Halloran go this summer, with a mentor for Hussey bought in, if I may be so bold as to suggest we're in any financial situation to do so)

Injuries aside, we may also be in a position to loan out Clarke and which ever back up LB we have, lets use O'Halloran in this instance should we have the same defensive players next season.

I say this because Cranie is so versatile, and in my opinion, I'm very comfortable with him moving from CB to RB /LB if Keogh or Hussey get injured...leaving one of the remaining 3 CB's to come in.

The long and short of it is, I would be very unhappy if we lost any of our 4 main CB's. (Plus I'm a big McPake fan and people saying he should go hurts me .....especially when earlier this season he drove past me as I was walking from the game, I waved and he put his thumbs up too me! We're totally best friends for everest now!)

Keogh - McPake - Turner - Hussey } Great back 4, not big names as in total the cost us around £250k, and Wood alone cost us £500k.

I rate those 4 as our best defensive line up and its hard to leave out Cranie and Wood.

Personally, my preferred back 4 would be:

Cranie - McPake - Turner - Hussey

Although I do like how RK gets forward alot, I couldn't leave Cranie out as I think he is a brilliant defender and as has been said, his composure and distribution is terrific.
McPake and Turner would be my ideal centre-half pairing though.

Agree with the thought of sending Nathan out on loan.

Not something Ive notice. What I do like though is that he stays on his feet alot of the time, when other players tend to dive in, potentially missing out on a challenge. He also likes to make his attacker go to the bye line and keep him there, which is also good.

i agree with you he dose stand people up and shows them wide but i noticed 2 or 3 times there was a 50/50 challenge that he went for then changed his mind it may be because of his previous injury am i right in saying it was a broken leg

Surely Jordan Clarkes too good for a loan? My back four would be Keogh, Craine,Turner, Hussey. Wood is Good back up as is Clarke. Get shot of mad Jim IMO! Too injury prone.

Yep., Hussey has composure, doesn't dive in. He makes plenty of firm tackles, too. Aint seen him skinned in ages.

Bloody love McPake, my Player of The Year last season. Just hope he can get back from the injury.
