Injury dilemma (1 Viewer)

Is it just me but why are modern day football injuries generally taking weeks, often months or even one year plus for injured players to make a full recovery. Some players seem to make a career out of constantly being injured and not playing ie Michael Owen, Kieran Dyer Harry Kewell etc. Even at my beloved CCFC we have Ben Turner 6 months, Gary Degan 6 months plus, Isac Osbourne 12 months and McPake 6 months. This may be acceptable to some extent if we had regular updates as to injury status which could include treatment details, expected duration of injury and likely playing dates.
Why is it all so secretive ??
By the way has anyone heard anything about poor Isaac - is he still alive, retired or what - thoughts anyone.

Isaac was training on the pitch before the game on Saturday.

I think the reason there are so many injuries is that we flog them like racehorses. They are athletes trained to be right on the edge all the time so more likely to collect injuries as the game is as much about fitness and athleticism as it is about technical ability these days. Playing too much and too young doesn't help either imo

It's a very fast game these days, I find it amazing how Giggs is still going, he's a true role model to youngsters rather than all these others that are up their own arses. I think its down to the tempo so there bodies are under more strain than ever before. As to recovery times, it depends on the injury and the type of person, some people recover faster than others. I think Turner is a good example, at first it was a month but it turned out to be worse and the end of his season. I think a decision was also made not to rush him back and get him injured again. Now he can get a good preseason in and be perfect for the start of the next season.

Why would it be 'acceptable' if we were given injury details we don't understand and have no benefit knowing, as well as return estimates (because that's all they can ever be) that inevitably end up wrong, causing the same people demanding the information to then complain that it wasn't accurate?

The changes to the boots also make a difference, they don't give the protection the old boots did.

It doesn't help that players are wrapped in cotton wool when they get hurt. Twisted ankles are 3 weeks out at a Professional level, yet down the park you'd be there again the very next Saturday!

Nothing you can do about injuries, and as mentioned the new lighter thinner boots don't help, but I do think they hold players out for a long long time after an injury. If it was me I'd be back as soon as humanly possible. I wouldn't be resting for 2 weeks after getting back to "match fitness". You don't lose your fitness THAT quickly just because you've hurt your leg. Well, not unless you're on the Pizza and Beer diet!

What happened to shin pads? I have always had the ones with the socks that protect ankles and all of the leg to just below the knee but now they have tiny little slot in things so no wonder they get injured more.

I had those too -probably extra weight or slow them down or something. That said the comment above about the boots probably means less call for those pads too and if you get within five yards of another player the non-contact sport that it has become means you are in danger of being sent off anyway!

I suppose the improved pitches make a difference too, players are moving faster.

I understand where you are coming from AJSCCFC but surely as fans we like to know the wellbeing of our club not only week by week ref playing squad injury niggles but the long termers as well. I think this sort of info will generally be well received by most fans..

Incredible just how good our pitch looked at the end of the season again. Used to be terrible by November and sand on by January.

If someone's likely to be in the squad soon, that's news enough. If there's no end in sight like for the four years Isaac Osbourne's been out, there seems little point as there's no new information. The specifics of the injury are similar, unless some fans are physiotherapy students.
