Hi, I'm looking to write an article about Muhamed Konjic's time in England and I'm after any stories from any of you about his time at Cov, either from memory, or a link to something you've maybe seen on the internet. Can anyone help?

Marauding runs from the back, a real cult hero of the terraces. Not the finest defender we've had, but a definite fans favourite. Never gave less than his absolute all and seemed to genuinely appreciate the adulation he received - refreshing from overpaid prima donnas who are often detatched from the man on the terrace.

The most lingering memory is of a streaker coming onto the pitch in a televised game against Derby in 2002-there should be a picture somewhere of him awkwardly hugging the woman who I think got escorted off soon after ;)

Don't forget the face mask, he was prone to breaking a few bones (mainly his own).

And lest we forget that penalty he gifted us in the last game at HR, which McSheffrey actually scored!

Even though he was a centre half I believe that his first shirt number was for the Sky Blues was an unlikely number 9. Don't know if this is interesting to you???

I was sitting two seats from her (my lad sat between us) I was talking to a guy on my right when she unveiled herself and jumped on the pitch. I missed the f'king lot. My lad didn't even think to give me a nudge!

Definitely the first. There's only been three ever, the other two being Dzeko and Begovic.



Also something you probably know already I'm sure I remeber that he had served in the services for bosnia and had been a soldier before allowed to resume his career in football*.

*This may not be 100% accurate, just trying to help out.

I loved that last game at HR for Big Mo... Made me think he still loved us enough to really screw his own teams game up!

His song was:

"Mohammed, wooooo. Mohammed, wooooo. He comes from Bosnia, he is a big f**ker." Just in case you can put that in!!

Was speaking to a Bosnian academic at a conference and brought up Mo. Apparently he's living in Bosnia training to be a PE teacher. Also not sure of where I read it but I'm pretty sure there was a story about how he had to sneak out of the country during the war with his mate to carry on playing football. Apparently played with two broken arms when he was in France or where he was before that. Mirror journalist called him the best ever footballer interviewee.

There's my story about the time he came in my record store (remember them?) in Leamington; he was trying to track down the version of the song She by Elvis Costello. Despite never having seen Notting Hill, I somehow knew it was on the soundtrack to the film. Mo bought the CD. He was really charming throughout-full of smiles. It was pretty obvious that I knew who he was and was a big fan from the stoopid massive grin that was plastered all over my face, but I didn't say anything about who he was. I guess I was a bit hero-struck!

The other encounter I had with him in Leamington was not long after I'd moved into the town. He was at a cashpoint on The Parade, being serenaded with the Mo Konjic Song by a bunch of about 6 or 7 City-supporting lads. Every few seconds he turned around, again with that charming smile, to say "thank you, thank you" in his broken English (with a slight French accent!).

Bloke had so much respect from the average bloke in the street-as my example proves, literally! A lot of that comes from what he went through in his homeland. He'll always be one of my favourite ever Sky Blues players.

On the pitch, will never forget him having an absolutely storming game against big Duncan Ferguson of Everton in the Prem when Duncan was in his prime. Christ how I miss top flight football...and old football, before the passion got diluted by money.

Not alone there NLHWC. The very first game I went to (City or otherwise) was a 2-2 draw at home to Arsenal in 1997; it's a saddening thought to know that the chances of seeing a similar result in the next 10-20 years is virtually zero.

Recall those runs towards apposing defenders like it was yesterday!

Drop of the shoulder, and he was off! He knew how to please a crowd (and we were easily pleased ;) )

He loved his song too. Even though im not sure he actually knew the content of it until it was pointed put to him at some function i.e fans forum etc.

Anybody got any links to videos of the big man playing for cov? Im only just about old enough to remember him playing but always have an image of him on the floor on the goal line and he leaning up to take the ball square in the face to prevent a goal,
Would love to see some more clips!

I particularly remember him scoring vs. Man City after one of his trademark runs, think it was Roland's first game in charge in 2001. Of course going especially mental was obligatory in the west terrace for a Mo goal (they weren't all that common in truth!)

There was a moment during a FA Cup replay against Cardiff (televised on Sky) where the ball hit him on the goal line square in the face and due to wearing a mask the ball somehow diverted over the bar.

I remember vividly a twenty yard header he scored against man city. Im pretty sure we won 4-3. Those were the days...

Yes! Thats what i meant! I can remember my dad and grandad sinking their heads when they thought he'd hand balled it, then going mental when they saw the replay, proper heart in your sleeve, never say die player
