Feel sorry for ozzy a bit, never really fulfilled his potential. Showed glimpses. Carsley was a bit of a let down too, thought he did well until injury though. Agree with the rest.

Ha knew we'd give Ireland another contract! Would've much preferred to see it given to Quirke! No surprise that Osborne's off, to be honest I don't think he'll play professionally again :( It was a bit obvious that McIndoe would go as he was meant to be going in January wasn't he?

Sammy Clingan club captain! This is a good move for the future of the club. As much as I do like Ozzy we cannot afford to carry players. Its a shame for Carsley as I think if he hadn't have got injured the season would have been quite different, his injury coincided with a rapid decline in performance.
I am pleaseed with this news as it means that the transfer embargo has been or will be lifted as I doubt Thorn would release these players as well as others out of contract who are likely to leave if no replacements can be brought in.
Its going to be an interesting summer :)

I have to say, I really am a bit confused with the decision to give Ireland a new deal and release Quirke. Quirke has performed well in the games he's played and, at a young age, could develop into a good keeper (especially having Oggy as a coach!).
Agreed Steve, I also feel a bit for Oz. He's been really unfortunate with injuries but I guess were in a position where we couldn't gamble on giving him another year incase he got injured again and we were paying a player for nothing. It is a shame though.
I actually thought that Carsley would get another year. Only because he would be a very good player to bring on for the last 10mins if we are leading by a goal. He is a good organiser and is always talking. Can see the thinking though.
Its not surprise that McIndoe is going and I guess the same could be said about O'Halloran, as Hussey has nailed the left-back spot. Did think they might have kept O'Halloran as back up though.

I've heard not too long ago that Oggy seems to rate Danny Ireland very highly as one of the best young keepers he has coached. He thinks he will be number 1 in the not too distant future.

...also where does that leave O'Donovan?

Will he be offered to other clubs or maybe he will be a first teamer next season?

...also (sorry for the treble post) but does this mean Eastwood is staying here next season?

Have people seen enough of Ireland to suggest he's not very good? I know he had the injury problems, but if they were injuries that point to recurring problems he'd be gone in the same way that Osbourne is I'd have thought.

cant reallt argue with those too much

biggest ones imo are carsley and o halloran, both brought in by boothyroyd, carsley did very well imo til injured

regarding ireland oggy must hae chosen him over quirke i woukld have iamgined, must have a reason

o halloran never really got going but at 21 thought he meight be worth another season

still thorn knows best and i trust his judgement, lets get some replacements in

p.s good luck to isaac in the future.a real shame but he helped us out at RB during a difficult period.

Looking at it coldly then none are really a surprise. There is a lot of common sense in the decisions and financially they make sense too

Carsley is 37 out of contract and already said himself that he was considering retiring. Good player but would he get the games to justify the salary?

Osbourne - out of contract and unfortunately has had too many injuries. We cant afford to pay out for injured players

McIndoe - out of contract, a decent player but it has never quite worked out here. After being apparently very poorly treated by AB ignoring him, his head has got to be in the wrong place regarding CCFC and doesnt get the games. Needs a new challenge and we can get as good as what we got from him cheaper.

Quirke - out of contract, and though there is plenty of good sentiment towards him this is a cold decision (it has to be). The lad looks too small, doesn't dominate his area and his handling isnt actually that good. (interesting about Ireland, We have not really seen him play so is hard to judge why he got the nod.... could simply be his physical build)

OHalloran- again out of contract. Failed to impress and when under pressure makes some pretty poor decisions often getting wrong side of the player or being in the wrong position, some weak defending. Clearly Hussey first choice. Dont think we will miss him but we do need cover at LB

Personally I am not surprised by any of the decisions. There isnt any room for sentiment in the best interest of the club for these situations. Good luck to all of them

Another poster here has said that King and Westwood both declined their offers..... so thats 7 gone. Personally I would make it 8 and let Eastwood go too. Seeing all this it wouldnt surprise me if Gunnarson said he needs a new challenge too. I think the 5 going and the 3 possibly are very much the product of the financial situation. AT is going to have to bring in replacements on much cheaper wages and probably on free transfers to work within an increasingly tighter budget. Hope the fans give him some leeway next season because he is going to need all his knowledge & motivation skills and a hell of a lot of luck to push any where near the top 6

Disappointed that Quirkes been released and Ireland offered another year as in the few games I have seen Quirke has looked the better keeper. Good luck to the rest of the players who have been released. Real shame about how Ozzys career has progressed really thought when he broke through that he would be a good player.

agreed, its gonna be tough if big 3 leave so lets not start calling for his head after 2-3 losses

at least w ehave scout as manager eh? he should a few good players who can get cheap/free

but marlon and westy were great not just good:mad:

Quirke - AT and Oggy obviously rate Ireland higher - little I have seen of Ireland I would question this but they are the experts and see them on a daily basis. Cant afford to keep two young back-up keepers, also I really do feel that Quirkes lack of stature will count against him.
O'Halloran - has done OK but Hussey now first choice and hasn't really shown enough to warrant a second year, also as he came from a Prem club he may have been on decent wages
Carsley - whatever some may say he did a fine job for us but father time has caught up with him and again I am sure he was on good money so better spent elsewhere
Osbourne - Real shame as he has been so unlucky with injuries and has shown glimpses of what he could do. Too often played out of position either on wing or full back but never complained just tried his best but if the club are to progress we need better than Ozzy
McIndoe - Like Carsley his best days seem to be behind him but never gave less than 100% but again we need more pace in wide areas
Eastwood and O'Donovan still have contracts and therefore cannot be released just like that so we are stuck with them unless we can fool some mug club into taking them off us.
I wish all 5 all the best for the future and thank them for their efforts for the club.

Excellent news on all five fronts. It may be a shame for some of them whose effort I wouldn't question but tough decisions have to be made. We're in the football business not a charity so no room for sentiment. Good on you Thorny, full backing here. If you can manage to off-load Platt, Eastwood, O'Donovan and Wood, then more power to you.

The more I hear of Thorn, the more I like.

I still get worried about the Transfer embargo when I hear about this number of players on the way out. If it's still in place we can't replace them.

We can only hope that the club gets the embargo sorted quickly Rich, but they dont seem too good at doing that generally. The accounts still not filed as of today checking Company House so embargo stands I assume unless League give dispensation to state otherwise

Think that the emphasis is very much on cost saving, talking up the hopes but concentrating on surviving next season. That means where ever wages can be saved they will be.

I think that AT is going to rely on young academy players making the step up

“But we have got a lot of young boys coming through who we like, for example Gael Bigirimana, Josh Ruffles, Conor Thomas and they are future of the club playing the way we are"

per CT report......... best part of which is where it says Conor Thomas is future of the club.... must mean he is staying (???)

It seems all would of done the same regarding the 5 even if Ozzy has been very unlucky with his injury we all know we cant carry on paying wages we dont have. As for O donavan and Eastwood i can see both moving on to league 1 as im sure that is the standard that suits them the best... What seems to be important now is the big3 if they sign im not sure AT will have any moves to make in the summer, but as im sure we will not keep King and Westy players will be brought in.

I think we should definately keep Wood! As for R O'D i'd like to see what he can do..

I'd assume that the embargo will be one of the first issues addressed at the fan forum, if not the first.

I think Wood's a decent enough defender so I've no issues with him staying - he'll be a sub most of the time though, as with McPake <3, Cranie <3 and Turner, he's not going to see much of the starting line-up without injuries. O'Donovan I haven't seen much of so can't comment - but think he should be given a chance. Eastwood could probably get a few quid for, though frankly anyway of getting rid of him suits me!

I only picked Wood as I don't want to lose Turner. We could probably command a fee for him and I understand he is on decent wages. We have plenty of cover at CB, he's one I don't expect would be happy bench warming and I think he has been a little error prone this past season.

I do like Wood, but I think we have an embarrassment of riches in his favoured position and five into two doesn't go. The only thing he might be useful for is cover for left back, but I would imagine with O'Hallorhan leaving AT will have a signing lined up as cover or to compete with Hussey.

Mixed feelings about todays players being released. Carsley, started brightly but dissapeared after his injury and think it for the best he's going to allow Thomas space in the squad. Loved Ozzy and he's love for City and playing through pain probably made his injuries worse. He probably wasn't on alot but unlikely to get back to first team level. Micky McIndoe, tried hard but was just never going to make it (did he ever win a header of 50-50) and O'hall, my god. League 2 at best.

Good moves by Thorn and frees up some cash, but now need another left back to compete with Hussey as don't want to see Craine wasted there!

I don't think this news is very surprising really. I still think its a shame about Quirke but the others were expected. Ozzy is very injury prone, Carsley is getting on, McIndoe was always going and O'Halloran had a few good games and fizzled out.
