Reportedly off to Liverpool for 20m.

Well you can debate whether it was just RR talking himself up, but you do have to do the "what if" thing again and contemplate what we could have done with the 51m he and Carroll have now raised!

That was after all the original SISU plan-invest in good young players capable of growing to Premiership standard once they reached that level. Add Westwood, Dann, Fox and the best of our present squad to that, and the vision makes some sense. That's a team that could compete with the likes of Wolves and Wigan, no problem.

The positive side is that Thorn knew about all these players a long time before most-and in Lukas, Sammy, Cranie, Hussey, Bell and Keogh we have a bunch of guys that he spotted who can only get better under his management, King or no King.

Is it me but £20M for Jordan Henderson seems a ridiculous transfer fee when considering his contribution to Premiership football.

His stay with CCFC for me didn't set the world alight - yes he appeared as good potential for an 18 year old, and one to watch but he often flattered to deceive.

I believe he had baout 10 games for us with many performances showing good pace but often disappearing down blind alleys and loosing possession.

Another unbelievable transfer fee of course was the £35M for andy Carrol again untried in the Prem - what chance have CCFC got when these two command these outlandish fees (and wages) - there has never been such an unlevel playing field in this era of transfer madness.

We will have to rely solely on AT continuing to unearth some more "gems" - I have complete faith in this happening.

I really rated Henderson when he was here, and he has impressed in centre mid for Sunderland. £20 mill is a ridiculous fee though.

£7 mill would be more realistic

Not if we'd have got promoted with them at the club. How much would Dann have cost clubs this summer if Brum hadn't gone down? Carroll from us would be something similar in fee, whilst as a top-flight club we wouldn't have much less profile than Sunderland, and similarly Blackburn who've just flogged Jones for 17m.

Everyone saying "we'd just sell them, first decent bid" is completely missing my point-that is if SISU had stuck to the original plan, which didn't involve selling the likes of Fox and Dann. Not to mention who else Thorn may have unearthed next if we'd carry on building. And my positive spin-hey ho, at least Thorn gets to do it on the cheap-as he's at least as good a judge as Lambert and Holloway, that must still give us some hope.

Transfer prices have gone mad imo! You look back at when Henry moved from Arsenal. £16m was it?? Thats for a prove. WORLD class striker. Darren Bent when he went to Spurs and then to Villa?? No comparison over the two, but Bent has the bigger transfer fees (individually and jointly). Now Henderson for £20m?? Now he was great for us and has proven he can make it in the prem but £20m is rediculous. Similar to what Blackpool asked for Charlie Adam, but I think that was oit of principal as they needed him to stay. He'll go now for alot less than the £7m offers made in January imo

So you think we could keep players like Carroll and Henderson if they had joined the club? Thing is if players don't want to play for you, you have no choice but to flog them and get the best deal for the club
And to say Thorn is as good as Lambert is stupid, Thorn has only had 10 games in management and doesn't have any badges. Obviously so far it looks promising but we will see Thorn's best managerial abilities when we start to lose/not play very well

Agreed this is because of clubs like Man City and Chelsea pumping 10's millions of pounds into the game season after season.
There is more money involved in football now than 7-8 years ago so hence inflated price. It doesn't help that if a player is English his value is automatically tripled.
