Can someone please help me with what being fickle is?
I've read alot of posts on here today that have got me thinking that I'm not allowed to be passionate about my football club,I'm supposed to wish well/not slag off players that don't want to play for my football club, otherwise I'm fickle!
As for Brody on twitter? People start questioning him about the shambles with MK and theyre called fickle for wanting answers?
Is it me? I just call it being passionate about something.
Any thoughts?

If someone's bemoaning a lack of loyalty in players and hurling abuse at one who has yet to leave, that's slightly hypocritical

Westwood I assume is gone (and has done nothing wrong whatsoever if you ask me), but we've been told so much on either side of the coin with King I wouldn't be confident until something's confirmed. Even then we don't really know if he told the club something and reneged or it was crossed wires, his advisor talked him out of it, someone just made up a load of junk, whatever. Creating a song full of abuse about a player who was the saviour 6 days ago seems a little premature in my eyes.

In fairness I think few people would have been hurling the abuse marlon's way had it not been for the fact we were told on friday that he was staying. The medical seems to suggest though that he's going to Birmingham if it's actually happening, because why would Birmingham waste time and money on a player that hadn't agreed personal terms?

It's the manner of the abuse. If it turns out that he has given us his word and then done a u-turn, fine. If it's people who disapproved of him all along and will be relieved the club isn't associated with him that's another thing. If it's that his criminal record is suddenly unacceptable and fair game because he's moved clubs, that strikes me as fickle (if the people singing 'she said yes' in particular suddenly change their tune). Of course this is the nature of football fans I guess. I hated Dennis Wise until his spell with us.

Members of the 'cult of positivity' tend to throw the fickle term about.
The type that would sooner have 15000 loyal fans turn up than 30000 glory hunters, then blame the fans rather than the club for being close to admin.

At the end of the day all of us Coventry are passionate in our own way and there is bound to be numerous divides among us on certain matters. It is not that we are fickle or ungrateful but as everyone thinks differently it is easy to be perceived in this way. It is just the old matter of not being able to please everyone!

fickle: Changing frequently, esp. as regards one's loyalties, interests, or affection

It is a fair term to describe most fans. One may justify the many changes of heart, but it doesn't make them any less fickle.

As far as King goes - he signed a one year contract (should have been longer), and he was honest enough to say in public that he'd make no promises about whether he'd sign or not. It's probably wise just to wish him the best and hope he continues to stay out of trouble.

Incidentally, as far as fickleness goes, we ought to cut Brody some slack here. He made a mistake, but at least he was trying to communicate with the fans in the 'transparent' fashion that was lobbied for so long by so many...

I think the fans are not fickle, but the reports that are coming out are fickle. Fans are responding to what they are told, which is fickle by definition i.e. Changing frequently.

Thing is, there's nothing inherently fickle about what seems to be happening: a freelance football player moves to a club for more money and/or a better shot fulfilling his professional ambitions.

That's how football works- it's very consistent. It's our (fans') often-extreme swaying of positions that brings the fickleness to the situation.

Interesting. If being fickle is changing loyalties sure we would be fickle if we were slating a current player not one that's on the verge of leaving us? How can you not change loyalty in that situation?

Loyalty can be defined as 'giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution'.

There aren't many City players (in my time, at least) who haven't been subject to booing or slating on the messageboards/phone-ins at some point.

But the club? That is where 100% loyalty can always be found. And that's my point - we can be consistently loyal and supportive of the club, but there's no point getting aggravated about football's mercenaries moving from club to club. No doubt we'll be nabbing another team's player this off-season by offering them higher cash, too.
