Just look at Man City or Newcastle in the same league.

How many fans did we have at highfield road? 13-14k.

Coventry is a huge place but limited fans. We should be able to support 2 clubs!!!!
Iv'e been to SJP and watched us beat Newcastle in front of under 14k, i watched us beat Man u when only 30k of the red army were there, Chelsea played us with only 9k watching and the great Leeds fans numbered under 11k during poor times.
Success breeds a fan base and lets face it apart from one day in the sun we have had precious little.

Population wise, coventry is one of the largest. Add nuneaton , Bedworth , leamington and kenilworth, we should have filled our ground every week.

Population wise it isn't. It's the 17th largest urban area in the country, less than half the size of Nottingham for example. Yes, we have satellite towns, but so do places like Leicester which also has surrounding towns in addition to an already much bigger urban area. 'CIty' populations are meaningless because boundaries are artificial creations drawn up by civil servants. Coventry is unique in the sense that the urban area boundary is also the city boundary - you get to the edge of Coventry and you are in the country - reach the edge of Nottingham and you have miles and miles more urban sprawl before you get to the sticks. All this leads many to overstate the size of the city and make assumptions about the crowds they think we shoud get.

In terms of our catchment area, we should be comparing ourselves to Portsmouth, Hull, Cardiff, Plymouth, Reading, Bournemouth and Brighton - and we are above all those clubs in the all time attendance figures.

Sorry, but I'm boring myself now...

I was at that Chelsea game. Only 8000 there for a PL game, and they were playing in a cup final just 2 weeks later.

I am not mocking any one, if you cant be bothered to have a sensible debate with out trying to twist my words - let's not bother...I would rather spend my time having grown up discussion.

You're gloating about a scenario that you've made up! FFS I'm not the one who's being immature!

Those fans who do go to Northampton are still supporters, but might not have the same will power as most. I imagine they all want SISU to go and do not want to go to sixfields.

Maybe the few who are silly enough to buy tickets should still show support and have own private prtest inside the Northampton ground.

Or maybe don't believe staying away will actually have any positive effect, seeing as it's all just theory with a side order of emotional blackmail.

What about the fans who just want to watch a game of football? I will probably go a couple of times to watch football.

I am a football fan, not a politics fan.

Thats not correct. Population wise Coventry is marginally bigger than Nottingham and Leicester. I believe 10th biggest in England on population. The difference is that they have counties of their own, which Warks should be our version of but is shared with a fair few vile fans etc.

I can't stand people with that attitude. You may as well have the word "welcome" emblazoned across your forehead so that politicians-and football club owners-know where to wipe their feet.

What attitude? That I just want to watch a ball being kicked about?

That you "just want to watch the football", yes. That you're prepared to ignore the "politics" to that end.

So what is wrong with just wanting to watch a football match on a Saturday afternoon?

In this scenario, a decision to ignore the politics is legitimising a disgraceful manoeuvre, giving it credence and making it feasible. To do so without even a thought for the ramifications or the off-field machinations is ignorant. Not that there will be many games on a Saturday afternoon :p

In general, apathy is the greatest enemy of democracy.

It is all well and good with this NOT ONE PENNY MORE stuff, when the season starts it will be a bit different.

You will see people in new kits changing not one penny more and sisu out.

I'm not ignoring anything, I just want to watch football and if somebody wants to stand there with their picket and have a go when i walk past then I will pop all of their balloons.

What then happens if we move back to Coventry? Will people then start going again?

At the minute it is just temporary, if it is confirmed and permanent then I would have to think about it and probably wouldn't go.

Why isn't it that simple?

We would soon see if we had a big cup away draw how many fans would go then? After all money would still be going to SISU? I would expect Old Trafford or the Emirates would be empty in the away end?

I assume that people will start going again if we are back in Coventry, yes. Certainly the majority, although the damage done by this debacle will knock a couple of thousand off our gate this season even if we do move back.

If you want to pop peoples balloons, go for it. See, you're not so apathetic after all!

But aren't you capable of working the old grey matter enough to consider that when they say "temporary", there are no guarantees whatsoever? They can't even satisfy the FL's bare minimum guarantees.

I don't buy your "come the season people will abandon their principles" shtick, either. That's eerily reminiscent of Fisher's words and implying that we're an utterly exploitable market. You're telling me my principles are bluster and bullshit? Hmm, now where did I put my "Scab" balloons...

It's really difficult for all of us who are used to spending our Saturday afternoon's swearing at another cr@p ref!

My view is that the more people that go, the more likely it is that the move will become permanent.

I can't prove that, but I think it's a reasonable assumption based on what's going on.

Because of that, I'd much prefer it for people not to attend, but I'm not going to have a go at anyone that does.

I didn't say you in particular but I am pretty sure if we got Arsenal / Man Utd / Chelsea away in the FA cup we wouldn't struggle to sell out tickets...

I know there are no guarantees, but there are also no guarantees on if it is permanent are there?

If it turns out that it would be permanent then of course that would be totally different. Even then, I wouldn't have a go at people who still wanted to go...

scabs??? your fellow fans?? what a complete loon

Agree 100% with you TSB. That is one of the most disgusting things I've read on this site and a reason why I don't bother to read SBT that much.

The last time I checked, this was a 'free' country with the right to do many things exactly as I please. If some want to protest about the Northampton move, I appreciate where they are coming from but it's my choice to go support the team if I so desire. So if some twat is going to come up and call me a 'scab' in front of my nose, he can expect a size 11 swiftly administered to his loins.

Its a personal choice if someone decides to go or not. There is no right or wrong.

If someone says to me they are not going to travel as a form of protest i respect that decision.

If someone says they are not going to travel because its too far and they cannot be bothered then that says to me there not a true city fan.

To this minute i still haven't made my mind up what im going to do and i think a lot of people fell the same.

I reckon we should all go to Northampton when SISU FC are playing and throw eggs at any Coventry City, sorry, Northampton Sky Blues fans that go to watch the game.

Then we should murder their families.
