Sky Blues agree terms on potential new stadium site and enter into exclusive talks on a second site

Coventry City Football Club has moved a step closer to securing a new, permanent home.

The Sky Blues have agreed terms, subject to contract, on a site within six miles of the city centre and has entered exclusive talks on a second site.

The Club is aiming to finalise a deal within eight weeks, paving the way for a new facility for the Sky Blues.

To ensure the project hits the ground running the Club has appointed a team of advisers to realise its ambitious plans for the new base.

International property consultants CBRE are advising on the land acquisition.

The company has experience of advising on a number of significant football and sporting projects.

CBRE will work alongside a team of advisers hand-picked for their expertise advising sports clubs, including planning consultants Turley Associates, which advised on the delivery of the revamped Edgbaston Cricket Club, Alexander Stadium and Wolverhampton Wanderers FC’s new Compton Park Football Academy.

AFLS+P will be the architects on the project and it is one of the UK’s leading sports and leisure designers.

The firm has worked on a number of high-profile stadiums including Rotherham United Football Club, Molineux Stadium’s new North Stand, Newport Rugby Club, Alexander Stadium, Brentford Football Community Stadium complex, Warwickshire County Cricket Club, Leicester Tigers’ new North Stand, and Munster Rugby Club stadium.

National transport planning consultancy Vectos has been selected as the highways consultant, as it has particular expertise in working with professional football clubs to deliver infrastructure.

The firm has recently assisted Tottenham Hotspur Football Club to develop a new training centre and is currently advising on site development around Bolton Wanderers Football Club’s Reebok Stadium. It is also assisting Brighton & Hove Albion FC to increase capacity at their stadium.

Coventry City FC chief executive Tim Fisher said: “We completely understand the pain the groundshare is going to cause our supporters but we have a clear path to return to the Coventry area.

“We are under no illusions at just how tough it is going to be for the next three years but there is absolutely no question that Coventry City Football Club’s long term future is in this area.

“Once we have agreement on a site, we will begin a consultation process with our supporters because we want this to be their home – a home that everyone can be proud of.

“And, of course, a home where the club has access to all matchday and non-matchday revenues which are crucial when it comes to financial fair play.”

We were already IN the Coventry area you plum! And you understand the pain? No you don't. Fans will stop going for THREE YEARS. That is not pain it is a clear statement that fans do not accept the groundshare.

If he just sees it as pain he is missing the point completely.

Might be bullshit but its obvious sisu are looking to build a stadium.only an idiot would think their game plan is to be in Northampton forever.

Club needs to own its stadium, time for council to sell it back to us. Either that or demolish it out of spite

But the council are heroes right? They wouldn't do such a thing?

Do the right thing CCC and sell sell sell.

A spokesman for Warwickshire County Council issued a statement in past 48 hours saying NO approach has been made for planning permission from CCFC.

I think the CVA talks have been put off for a while. Today's talks are a last ditch effort to get some agreement on Sky Blues playing at the Ricoh.

I'm sure if SISU placed a fair offer they would sell it.
We already know SISU have offered Higgs less than Higgs gave CCFC to help them out at the time.

SISU like the Ricoh model they just can't afford it.

Not that I like to speculate but the Speedway Circuit is only six or so miles away from the City Centre..

i thought timmy fishface said there was no going back and that we would be ground sharing with northampton.....not bluff and bluster he said and if they break the deal with northampton surely they will expect some compensation...of course everyone wants us at the ricoh but twat face timmy contradicts himself.

Ricoh - Could of had (If they invested the money and came to a sensible compromise with ACL)

HR2 - Put up with (Because they didn't invest the money that they invested in this new Arena into the Ricoh)

Nice statement to realease on the day of further talks.
I am glad he is not at the meeting however someone who can say yes should be.....
She is always one step away from these meetings.
This means she is like the emperor and her new clothes.
She hears their version of how the meeting went.
She does not get to witness body language.
Read people's mannerisms.
See how people react when one of her employees makes a key statement.
She has to depend on that employees interpretation of how that statement went down.

I have to say it is very poor, hesitant and fearful business acumen to not attend.

Forgive my ignorance, but isn't convention to have a new, permanent home before moving out of your old, permanent home?

I doubt Northampton would have announced the arrangement on their website if nothing had been signed. If they did then they are very very stupid people.

That said, we have no idea of what clauses are in that deal, it may be that a specific "Ricoh-return" get out clause is in there. Perhaps SISU just bunged Northampton a few quid to make the announcement knowing that there would be uproar from the fans and ACL would be forced to come back with fresh terms.

For all the shit and ruction SISU have caused, they are not stupid. I wouldnt be at all surprised if ACL is taken over by SISU as a result of these last ditch talks. No one buys ACL's nonsense about being able to survive without City playing there, its all just been one massive game of Chicken and by the looks of things SISU are better at it.

Much as I want them gone, the fastest way to do that is to sell ACL to them, put the bricks and mortar on a long long lease from the council and then SISU will sell club and stadium combined for a profit. We all know there isnt really £60 million of debt so they wouldnt even have to sell it for that high a price.

Could NEVER see a deal being done on the Ricoh because of the 'Compass' contract but guess we'll just have to wait and see?

To be appointed doesnt mean there has been work done however or will ever be done. It would be difficult for most of those involved to have done anything much at all considering the site(s) have not yet been secured - no contracts exchanged

There was a comment made on another thread that SISU had made a small investment in a company that was to buy Brandon, I dont know if that is true or not would be interesting to find out though. If we knew the owners of that company it would perhaps give an idea as to what is going on.

Certainly SISU are going through the motions of buying another site, clearly the release of that information now is a blunt way of trying to ramp pressure up on ACL, as with everything else with SISU I will believe it when I see it and then still have my doubts
