There have been a number of unsubstantiated rumours over the weekend that Coventry City are interested in striker Marlon Harewood.

The 31 year is out of work after his contract at Blackpool FC, for whom he made sixteen appearances scoring five goals, was not renewed.

Harewood came through the ranks at Nottingham Forest, having loans at Haka and Ipswich before signing for West Ham in 2003.

After 142 appearances and 47 goals, he moved on to Aston Villa, where he had loans at Wolves and Newcastle before joining Blackpool in 2010.

Last season he played the latter part on loan at Barnsley.
Harewood has also been attracting interest from Notts County.

I hope not, hes to wasteful with his chances, most of the time he doesn't even test the keeper and sends it wide or over the bar.

Marlon Harewod is actually 32 end August this year - no spring chicken!!

His goal scoring record of 121 goals in 416 games suggests a potential 12-15 goals per season could be expected - but don't we need a potential of at least 18-20 to anywhere near replace MK's contribution ??

Difficult to judge really, as he's been playing at a higher level for years. Not exactly prolific, either. Thorn knows more than me, I'm quite sure.

Who do you think we would be able to sign? We're skint and have no money. Marlon Harewood is one of our better options.

Hi Fellas
His CV doesn't exactly set your pulses racing does it?
More loans than a cup of sugar, and motivation after a"nobody loves me" couple of seasons, must be in Question, we cannot replace Marlon King, with our budget, So Why Try, don't lets waste the limited budget on spent unmotivated players..Opinion of cause.
REspect......Tankie

Im not a fan, but aslong as hes commited to the club if he does sign, and puts his all in i wont mind if we get him. As previous posters have suggested we need to be realistic, and with him, who imo isnt necessarily proven at any level, and being a free agent in a position we need players, he is an option.

I think it's a realistic option for us. I don't rate him that highly but who knows, he could do a job for us.

What he said.

I think the fact that we managed to get a quality player like King is clouding peoples judgement about what sort of players we can attract.

We're a skint club, who can't offer that good wages and who are highly unlikely to be challenging for promotion this year.

Harewood would be a decent signing IMO.

Strike-rate at this level in recent seasons suggests 40 games would give a return of around 15 goals. I'd say that's pretty much as much as we can hope for from a "free". Not so sure how much he is a "touch" player though, which is what I'd expect us to be linked with. Although if Holloway thought he could play in his system (and 5 in 15 aint bad for the Prem!), then he should be able to fit into Thorns. Never looked the greatest player but is a power-house who the Hammers fans loved and never gives less than his all. A more gifted Leon McKenzie/Andy Morrell? If he was in our present squad he'd be a guaranteed starter IMO. Better than Clive, Freddy and Roy. Who are available for childrens parties :p

Id take two young strikers e.g. adam rooney and le fondre as oppose to harewood any day of the week. Probably would be cheaper aswell

I agree. Harewood is going to be on similar wages as king was, i'd rather take a a few young lads with potential then waste the money on someone who wasn't even that good in his prime.

Think he would be a good addition but would like to see us sign Le Fondre as well or Jason Scotland who is available on a free

I also don't think Harewood would be on anything like King's wage. King was coming off a successful season, he had something to bargain with. Harewood is looking for work, he'll take the first decent offer I'd guess. An incentive laden contract might be worth looking at.

I would be very happy with him. Not the most gifted footballer in the world, but gets goals wherever he goes. For everyone who thinks we should do better, I think you're dreaming. I'd actually be surprised if he was attracted to us.

Jason Scotland is a good shout too.

I agree, I'd say we're guaranteed goals with him and to expect anyone better - no chance - I think a few of the younger generation of fans think we can sign big players after Marlon was here - (unfortunately) (and in recent times) he was a one off and we need bringing back down to earth.

I meant similar to what King was earning (8-10k), not what he would be potentially earning (15k). :D

Not at all, i don't expect us to be going out and signing messi, i just don't think Harewood is very good and wastes alot of chances and we'd be best off looking at getting someone else in, either a few youngsters from the lower leagues or if we are looking for a 'big name', Kev Phillips, hes head and shoulders above Harewood (not literally ;))

Phillips over Harewood every day of the week absolutely like you say - but I think Harewood is more likely,

In an ideal world with how things are for us - I hope Thorn has a League 1 target who is an affordable, exciting, young prospect

He's arguably more of a goalscorer than King if the stats are indication; according to their Wiki pages, Harewood has scored exactly the same amount of goals as Marlon King, but played 49 matches fewer.

The stats I am looking at say King has played 49 matches fewer

It's quite possible I've got the Marlon Wikis mixed in that case. Wouldn't have this trouble if one of the two was called Archibald.
