Am I Alone (1 Viewer)

A lot of good banter on SBT at moment BUT I am still very very concerned as to our short/medium term future with respect to player retention, player purchasing and cash flow problems.

I am still in euphoria land wiith AT at the helm looking eagerly towards Aug 6th but with no visible substantial income stream on the horizon season ticket sales at best on a par with last season how can we attract, pay for and keep any new acquisitions.

With this grossly unlevel playing field of parachute payments, in reality cash for failure, think about it !! - (4 years x £12 Million) how on earth are we going to challenge for the top six with this ridiculous financial disadvantage.

My only savation is Blackpool did it despite the odds - look where they are now !!

Fellow SBT's - please save me from this priod of gloom

When I first joined SBT reluctant to contribute just read all threads/posts - but now I can't keep me hands off the frigging keyboard - sad or what.

Sorry to break in on the love-in [!:)] but didn't we have parachute payments when we were relegated? Without sound financial management and/or investment we're always going to struggle to get out of this league. The silver lining for me is Andy Thorn's approach: the players respect him, the diamond midfield was a joy to watch - now if we could just develop that Wimbledon 'Crazy Gang' mentality then who knows...........??!!

Top 6?.... if we don't sign at least 3 decent players we will be lucky stay up. I think even with a few new signings the best we can hope for is about 13th or 14th. I am one of the more positive fans as well so it pains me a lot to say that.

Nah, we will be fine. MR T has the mediocre players suddenly playing half decent and the team as a whole doing the business. I am certain we will pick up 2/3 players at the start of July those that do not want to play for us can/have gone. The league doesn't suddenly contain 21 fantastic teams just beacuse we are broke you know! Look at last season's top 12, do we honestly think that every single one of them is much better than us? I don't, Let's All Sing Together...........looking forward to it. :claping hands:

Great post smileycov couldnt agree more, judging by the end of last season all we really need now is a deacent keeper, (Murphy) and a replacement for the jail bird and we will be sorted, the rest of the team seemed to really rise to the challenge/occassion under Thorny and I for one have a vaugue underused sense that ok we may not get promoted back to the promised land but at least we will be more competative and let the so say "big clubs"in the championship know who we are.

Since relegation we have witnessed the gradual demise of our beloved club - the huge debt that we had built up in the last few years in the Premier league and the terrible financial management really has crippled the club. The biggest obstacle we have is not owning our on ground - the total mis-management of the sale of Highfield Road and construction of the RICOH has left us with a mountain to climb! Somebody made an incredible amount of money out the deal(s) I'm sure but it wasn't CCFC!

I also believe that we will be fighting relegation rather than pushing for promotion next season - 3 of our better players have moved on - yes we will get in some replacements but I fear the quality will be less and the squad is lacking depth right across the board. Yes there are some youngsters coming through but none of these have demonstrated that they are ready to constantly be first team - they have a lot to learn and hopefully mature into good players. Without substantial investment and the related purchase of the RICOH we will continue to shrink as a footballing power as we won't be able to compete with other clubs. The Championship has become tougher every season since we've been in it :(

I always look forward to the new season but at the same time I am fearful of where we will finish in May 2012. We will be fortunate to keep Ben Turner and Clingon next season as if they do well they will be January targets and we'll need the cash.

What causes these comments is a worry.
Worry that with King gone and no replacement looking likely, despite rumours and with AT suggesting today he will have the Juke playing number 9 (which would indicate Sheffers up along side) makes it more plausible we will have no 'Harewood' or a 'Philips' or anyone else!

The midfield has a player in Gunna with a gun to iour head for an improved deal, AT has said today he will fight to keep! Should be kicking him out imo and looking for a decent replacement like Koumas who is a free.

Surely with King gone and Gunna told to go wages are available for one or two like Philips and Koumas to strengthen our already weakened squad?

Perhaps I'm getting ahead of things but when AT sounds like he is settling in on Gunna and Juke as main 20 goal a season Number 9 then I feel we are running with what we have with perhaps too much optimism on Thorns side?

That could be a disaster unless Deagan comes through strong and fit and Sheffers stays fit. Remember this is a 46 game season with suspensions and injuries. Even AT will not work miracles!

No John, your not alone!
We try to keep our feet on the ground, and think well we've got no money but we'll be ok, the club quite rightly won't go back to the massive Debts, we realise the position they are in, and live with it.
Having said that I am very concerned about the possible fragile squad we may have for next season, quality has gone out and nothing like it or for that matter NOTHING at all is coming in, Andy thorn says he has irons in the fire, but so does a Blacksmith, but that doesn't mean he can field a good enough squad to compete at this very difficult , competative level.
Have I much hope for the coming season, well the entertainment may be improved, but a play off place I dont think so at this stage.

But as someone will quite rightly tell me , Tankie! they havn't kicked a F$$$*%G ball yet.

Bye..off to the GreyHound
