ACL seeking franchise (2 Viewers)

one game! Fisher and co are prepared for three maybe four games with low attendance? They are banking on the CCFC fans cracking and going to the Sickfields

The first four games apart from Bristol City shouldn't see too much of an away following which will hopefully sink SISU's hope that attendances will improve.
Providing that is, we CCFC fans stick to our resolve in a boycott.
It's going too prove difficult, myself included, as the football season is very much part of our social calendar. Almost feels like the local boozer has been closed down.

If ACL are now looking for another sport to fill the stadium why the hell did the ACL board turn down Wasps rugby club when the previous ACL, CEO had a deal on the table ready to sign for them to move to the Ricoh and ground share with CCFC!?? The ACL board are so short sighted, they could have avoided this disaster if they had a joined up strategy! Muppets

Just not true.

Get PH4 on board and start a new club.

Afc Coventry or 1883. Announce it now, build up a picture of fans opinion and launch for new season.

The City needs a football club and SISU are in cuckoo land if they think they will get planning permission at Brandon when the Bees went even allowed an extension due to poor traffic infrastructure.

Rugby is a strange sport in that the few top class clubs are quite spread out. Fans are more prepared to travel to a different city to support a club

There shouldn't be a franchise team at the Ricoh and we shouldn't be starting a phoenix club.

We have a club and we - and ACL - should fight for it.

Unfortunately I feel ACL entering talks with another club or getting to the point of switching the Ricoh to an alternative use. Would be the only thing that would have SISU return.
Their plan is completely economically unviable.
They are desperate to see how the Ricoh copes without us.
If they see a viable alternative starting to be put in place they will come back.
It is such a shame they are gambling with the club.
So frustrated with people who used to defend their tactics. They are applying them on us now.
They have no thoughts about the future if the club at all this is one last throw of the dice to get the Ricoh on the cheap.

Just really hope if it is used for another sport it is one that will allow us to share when SISU try to liquidate.

I am sure that there will not be a ground built elsewhere. We all know they have been trying to distress ACL. They want the Ricoh for less than building a stadium much smaller. Even the blind can see what is going on. Otherwise we would have seen the plans as promised by Fishy.

The rest is all guesswork. ACL have survived longer than SISU expected. The judicial review was another slap in the face for them. How long can they make out that they will build a new stadium without having proper plans in place?

ACL are now in a position to bring other events to the Ricoh. I think they will keep home game dates free though. Some people say that they will be happy to make losses for years. Once they know for sure that they won't be able to get the Ricoh for peanuts they will have to change the way they are running our club.

Thing is, when you analyse it all thoroughly and think about it with a clear mind then the answer really has to be that fans don't go to Northampton and ACL don't bring another sports team to the Ricoh.

Needs to be shown that Sisu cannot operate in Northampton without the fans and the Ricoh cannot function here without Coventry City. Needs to be shown that they need each other and unfortunately, both sides need to fail.

If ACL got a well founded franchise sports team in that proved to be a success at the Ricoh then CCFC would never return to the Ricoh Arena and many of us truly don't believe that Sisu have any intention of building a new stadium, so we could be well and truly screwed.

Short term we need both sides to fail without each other.

Come on Torchy. ACL have tried. I think the finger of blame, whilst there's a good deal all around, is pointed squarely at SISU and their ultimate ambition: which isn't a lower rent or share of incomes, its the stadium itself. This much being ratified in my mind by last week's Juducial Review hearing judge and his comments.

However, if SISU's stance and alleged signed three year minimum contract is true; you can't then castigate ACL for looking at replacing any lost incomes. How many threads have we had on here about their CCFC-less viability? Or do you think we can only assess that if they sit back and don't let anyone else use that great rectangle of grass?

Can't see the rugby idea working, most midland fans (including lots in Coventry who also support CCFC) follow Leicester Tigers or Northampton Saints the only scenario is if someone throws 15-20M at Cov RFC re brands it Cov Irish or alike and they get some of the big European teams visiting. Average wages budget in the Aviva Prem is 4-5M and Tigers is 7M. That said least at the Rugby you can have a beer in the stands and no segregation!

ACL Looking For Alternative To CCFC
According to a tweet from the Coventry Telegraph's Les Reid, Coventry City Council and Arena Coventry Limited are looking for a sports franchise to play at the Ricoh Arena.
Mr Reid tweeted: "Inside sources tell me council/ACL definitely been seeking "sports francise" for Ricoh Arena."
Covsupport News Service also understands that plans to attract a team playing another sport have been on the drawing board for a while but now it is clear that Coventry City FC, whilst Tim Fisher and Joy Seppala are ruining the club (sic), won't be returning, plans to find another team to use the 32,000 capacity stadium have come off the backburner to a more forward position.
They can look as much as they like to get another franchise in the stadium but the reality is there is no other sport(s) that can afford £150k per Year plus Match day cost with no F&B, even the Big Rugby clubs would Baulk at it - its all a big sodding game to ACL & SISU the cnuts are playing poker with our club.

Why would there be no F&B? I'd imagine only CCFC are stupid enough to sell the rights for a bag of peanuts.

ACL are entitled to do business as are SISU. You bang on about SISU need this..and SISU need that. Get off your "High Horse" 3-00pm on Sunday is the day CCFC dies. Coventry City AFC is the way forward and any team representing the City should be playing at the Ricoh. I'm certain that ACL would sell their share of the Arena at a very competitive rate, if not free to anyone but SISU. I'm sure clauses in any contract could be implemented to say , if SISU sell CCFC the team could come back to Coventry and integrate with Coventry City AFC....It's time for change!

Slag ACL off at every given opportunity Yet when it looks like CCFC are dead and buried, you say "We have a club and we - and ACL - should fight for it." I think over the last 12 months ACL have become contortionists in "Bending over backwards" to apease SISU but to no avail.

SISU are certainly playing games with our club.

ACL are bending over backwards to get them back. Unfortunately SISU want the stadium for less than it is worth so they can maximise their profit. CCC/ACL also need to be sure that the new owners are fit and proper and we all know SISU are not.

Hence ACL are willing to rent at the moment but will need confidence in any new owner before they sell.

SISU have a lot of work to win this confidence back and this can only be done while they rent it.
Whether a purchase agreement could be negotiated in 10 years time is the way forward.

Whilst ACL have given us figures over the years for purchase and rental prices, SISU have not even mentioned what figures they are offering so it is a bit one sided.

Why would Wasps want to play in Coventry? They are a London based club now playing at High Wycombe.:thinking about:

Wasps wanted to build a new stadium or expand their current ground, i cant remember which. In order to match the demand for tickets for big games.
The council refused them planning permission and so they were looking into alternatives such as rebranding and moving to the ricoh.
Rugby union as a sport is much more open to the idea of franchising.
It happens in welsh/scottish/irish/australian/south african and new zealand where teams represent provinces or territories. Works very well aswell.

There are alot of premiership clubs from london and fans are much more likely to travel to games if it means they are garunteed a ticket, whereas they werent before.
