The end of my 35 year + CCFC "home" habit. (3 Viewers)

For the last 35 consecutive seasons I have had a season ticket(5-6 years before that a “casual” supporter). A legacy of Grandfather and Father.
On Sunday for the first time in 35 years through my own volition(?) I will not be attending a CCFC ‘home’ game.
There has been lots of debate, lots of mud slinging, lots of ‘he said’-‘she said’, lots of “its their fault” , come Sunday at 3pm none of this will matter to me or my son. What matters is, is that the football club I love- the “hobby” that chose me to follow it, is no more. A destiny that I truly did not see befitting of mine and many others extended allegiance.

I have debated on here with many about the NOPM campaign, its effect, its risks- and there are some which I recognise. I've angst, had sleepless nights, wrestled with the raging war of words. But I’m afraid I cannot rationalise attending a ‘home’ game with that of an ethically comfortable position in my own mind- for me on a personal level I find SISU’s position morally abhorrent and thus my sad conclusion and ultimate choice to abandon my team (for that is how it feels).

Washed along with all of that is also my son- desperate to watch his football team play in the city of his creation and birth… he’s going to have to do without CCFC for a while.. as a dad.. not the easiest of conversations or positions to project. His absence is the saddest aspect of all. We will support the club at away games that suit other aspects of our lifestyle, but these will be infrequent rather than the norm as has been for so long.

I will not scorn others that choose to go to Northampton.. we all make choices in life for different reasons. What I would urge though on the eve of what will be a momentous and emotional weekend in my house is that those that choose to attend do so having considered very carefully their reasons for their choice.. as Spock once said "do the needs of the many not outweigh the needs of the few?".
Time now to stand up and clearly state, enough is enough - as one.

PUSB- Until we meet again.

Coventry City FC in Coventry. No other.

*Edit- We will be at the Ricoh on Sunday, along with hopefully many thousands of others, to underline our Coventry City FC in Coventry mandate and to place a few pounds into local charities funds.

Maybe those who go to Sixfields should really have a long hard think especially when they start to sing "Lets all sing toghether" because for the first time since Jimmy introduced this we will not be singing together, such a sad shame.

Yes my sentiments entirely (49 years as ST) - a great chunk of my social life has been taken away by these imbeciles who haven't a clue how much CCFC means to us.

I've a good mind to sue these crooks for deprivation of quality of life

Due to living away from the area and work commitments I haven't been able to get to as many games over the years as I would have liked. So it's people like you and your family who have been st holder's for many years who I feel for the most. You are truly the life and soul of ccfc and regardless of who's to blame etc it such a massive shame. Hopefully one day very soon you'll be back at the Ricoh cheering on our beloved sky blues

I think this reply on another post from Womble 6 days ago about a City fan deliberating whether to attend "home" games with his son is relevant to your post and also deserves a bump.
Lots of understandable emotion that I totally get, heres some thoughts from a Wimbledon support of many many years.

When Wimbledon fans walked past me and others when we boycotted the franchise in 2002 I abused them, hurled abuse. Many of these 'fans' hid behind their kids "little billy doesnt understand".. you know what? fuck off Billy who doesn't understand. Stop hiding behind children. Just be truthful, you want to go and don't care. Admit that you'll be there watching some abomination in Northampton, just football innit. But lets stop the "we'll hurt the children". little Billy wont probably give a shit when his brain gets plugged into some gaming box in 5 years. I bet hell respect the decision because you his parent made. Try this on little Billy "some pricktards have stolen coventry away from us the fans, us the people of coventry, we probably aren't going to see them in northampton but we'll fight however hard to get the club back into coventry, do you want to stop the people who did this Billy?"

What about these who cross the line. Let them go, no use fighting them. They'll come round eventually, probably when they look round Sixfields and realise it isn't Coventry in those maroon seats (sorry Cobblers, I cant remmeber the colour). Most Wimbledon fans lost somebody, a mate who went to mk and stayed until they changed the name, but mostly people who drifted off never came to afcw and now watch fulham, or some other club. Some still come back now we are in the league, I always hear of "I used to go in the prem, this is my first game back".. 10/11 years for some people. Going to northampton might be their way of using this to say goodbye to football. If ive learnt something, a lot of people are looking for an excuse to not go to football any longer, these SISU lot are having that effect on cov fans.

SInce 2002, I've been a bitter hate filled individual. I hate MKfilthfucks, and that hatred still burns everytime I hear them mentioned. When we earn't our league place I sank to my knees and uncontrollably sobbed like a massive baby, all those years of trapsing the Sandhursts, the Coves, having to go to Bromley on a Tuesday, being thrashed by Southall, missing out on promotion with 114 points, there were many good times too. But it should never have happened, if only people could see the actual truth of what occurred (and we have to deal with fucking revisionist new football customers of mkscum.. coming out and telling us what really happened supposedly when in 2002 they were wanking off to Liverpool or ManUtd on SKY, hoping they could watch them in MK whilst we marched, sang, turned our backs, got arrested, banned, lied about etc etc trying to make the press see what was really going on with Winkelman and his property deal )

So, in conclusion what am i saying, if people think that 3 points on saturday has any significance then I ask you to reassess why you are a cov fan. If its the club that makes you happy when they win and it makes the whole weekend go very smoothly, or you lose and its a long wait to see if tuesday away to Preston can make it better, if its the club no matter what people say about it you still are proud to wear the shirt no matter if you are a 45 year old fat bloke, you wear it out into town because it represents you and you represent them, its your football club. When you see another fellow fan you might hate his guts but when hes wearing the same shirt you are a brother, you'll kiss him if some twat with a porsche knocks one in off his arse on saturday, you'll share a knowing look of despair when after 30 minutes its 0-5 to scunthorpe. its the whole identity and belonging that people around you are part of the same thing, you drive past the ground when youve lost 0-3 to crewe and as much as it hurts you at least know theyll be another opportunity to run up the terraces trying to grab the nearest bouncing loon to hug him because you might actually win this one. the people who own your club can not buy that. they will never understand, for them its just money. thats why they'll come and they'll go. faceless, featureless cunts who prey on your emotions hoping you'll leap high enough so your change will fall onto the ground for them to hoover up. you can destroy them by bleeding them dry of money. Half a season of zero income and they'll understand who really owns coventry city fc. It aint fucking them.

PS. I've had a season ticket for about 40 of the last 45 seasons and I'm not going to " home " games at Northampton either. Starve Sisu out.

46 years as a fan.
I am approaching letting the club disappear all together rather than see it a skeleton of its former self.
Once its 100% gone from Coventry I think will want it to die off completely. I have my memories.

I am still hopeful we will be back in a few weeks but I grow more worried every day.

A heart felt post and an excellent post by the Wombles fan. I will be at the Ricoh on Sunday with my son. As we the fans, are the real CCFC. NOPM.

I take the sentiment to your point JohnnieR.. but please no more litigation!!.. We've all had enough of court room posturing from the fools that profess to run our football club.

I echo your thoughts Italiahorse and it was the prospect of effectively killing off the Sky Blues-starving SISU and asphyxiating the football club (the ultimate risk) that played on my mind the most re supporting the NOPM campaign. But if that's what it takes, as regrettable as that is, then so be it..we cannot continue in this manner.

The one saving grace- the balance in my mind to the ultimate awful prospect of extinction of the football club is that the City of Coventry has a purpose built 32000 seat sports stadium, which will attract investment and the ability to propagate the rise of he proverbial Phoenix from the Flame in a footballing sense. With the additional investment attraction of a core 10,000 fan base with infinite expansion opportunities if success is achieved.

Our collective NOPM campaign might ultimately mean we have to start again- from the bottom AKA Coventry 1883 or whatever- not the ideal of course, and absolutely not what we all want, but better that than to live a lie in the false clothes of Northampton.

From the Friday night matches in the early sixties, the promotion to Division One and being part of the crowd when we beat Wolves, watching Willie Carr flick up the donkey kick for Ernie Hunt to score against Everton, watching CCFC beat Bayern Munich 2-1, the draw against Bristol City to stay up, coming from behind to beat West Ham 3-2 at home in the league cup, the Final of 87 and the old fella on TV the night before telling the world he never thought he would ever see us in the Final, the doldrums of the nineties, then Dublin, Huckerby, Keen and Big Mo, the last day win at Spurs to stay up, some stupid git telling us on the day of relegation that at least we will see more wins than losses next season, the wilderness years since, beating Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers in the Cups.

I haven't lived in Coventry since the seventies but I love returning home to Coventry on match days because it is still my City, I came back to my roots on match days, so I cannot and will not go to any other place to watch home matches, and why should I.

Good job I don't do emotion PUSB and NOPM till back in Coventry

PS forgot to say I WILL be at the Ricoh on Sunday to watch at least one match in Coventry this season

NOPM now until SISU have gone for good and that is all 5 of our immediate family plus stacks of friends as well. I'm furious and saddened that this has been enforced upon us, but I cannot support the immoral greed of the hedge fund in their quest to avoid failure at any cost. They only know one thing and that's money and they won't be getting any of ours. We are determined though that even living 10 miles outside of Cov we shall still try and support those business' in CV6 that shall suffer a loss of turnover down to this preposterous move because we estimated that we spent about £800 directly with the club last year and £1200 within the vicinity on meals and drinks etc.
