A name change? (1 Viewer)

Is this the next logical step for SISU, to change the name of the club "temporarily" to suit it's surroundings before its "return" to Coventry?

I would have thought they have created circumstances where they could become a franchise club...... a name change could therefore be possible..... will it happen I have no idea

I don't think they'd even contemplate it until they fail a few times to get planning permission for a ground within Coventry / Warwickshire and then look at locations into Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire. Many people are making a big thing about the £1m bond to the Football League if they don't move back, we all know that £1m added on to the well structured debt within the pyramid of Sisu companies is nothing!

Just wonder what their stance will be if the feedback from fans is that they will not go even if a new stadium is built?

Been a few say they won't go again until Sisu have gone and a few saying they won't go if the stadium is outside Coventry and a few, like me, who thinks that in 3-5 years time many of us won't go because we will have found something else to do on a Saturday afternoon.

IF they did intend to build a stadium they have to be sure people will fill it when it's built.

I get the feeling that if this does drag in for 5 years there is no way they will get the crowds they need here to make a success of things.

Completely agree, and IMHO your points add more importance to the Trust coming out with proposed plans for a Phoenix club. Not to begin immediately (obviously) but to serve two purposes:

1) Keep fans together rather than see them drift away from Coventry completely.
2) Show Sisu that there is only one solution to this problem - back in Coventry at the Ricoh.

I honestly think Sisu will be weakened further if a viable alternative begins from next season which is professionally and democratically run.

If this happened it would be the end of the line for me. At least we would all be able to unite behind starting again and we would maybe be able to procure the Coventry City name.

That latest letter from FL to Ainsworth says specifically

" we will continue with our endeavours to get the club playing in its home city at the earliest opportunity" have the FL shifted the goal posts again before it was in the connurbation, and TF saying in the Coventry area

If thats the new criteria going to be interesting to see any new stadium built...... or does that point to the FL knowing the objectives of SISU as far as the Ricoh is concerned

Probably just a slip of the discretionary tongue though ............

I think they will end up staying at Sixfields. It is set to expand to a 10-11k capacity, the renovations are being paid for by a council loan which NTFC have to pay back and the plans include hotels, shops, housing and other developments around the site. Sounds just like the kind of thing SISU claim they want to build doesn't it? Even if they are serious about building a stadium its going to be very hard to get the planning permission. In 3 years time either crowds will have dwindled to nothing and they will just wind the club up or else people will have come to accept playing in Northampton and the crowds will have risen. Either way i forsee that CCFC will now live or die at Sixfields.

Yes those slippery customers at the FL will claim they mean the club in its home City of Coventry, but if its a Franchise team and the FL know that is what SISU are aiming for, then it could be open to any City and the FL yet again slip around their own rules.

On a personal level I cant see it happening though......at least I hope not!

if that happened it would be the stay away fans fault not sisus

i mean ffs, no matter what they have done if they actually build a stadium(in good location) that leads to ccfc being in a good position it will be time for fans to move on

Will it? So when we move in as tenants of Joy, paying "market rate rent" we should all flock back?

My conditions for return are: we're either at the Ricoh or in a ground we own lock stock. And Sisu have gone.

Does anyone actually trust then not to add the stadium debt onto CCFC, claim lack of fans means they need to go into adminat which point we suddenly find out from the administrator that all those lovely assets we thought we owned are taken by ARVO. All that's left is a club £100m in debt rather than £70m.

I think im actually at the point where I wouldn't return at all whilst SISU remain in charge, even if they bought the Ricoh today and we were playing there again from next weekend with the embargo lifted and signings coming in I'd still have to think long and hard about whether I'd want to return. If all the players remain the same then it doesn't matter where the pieces are on the board, the game is still corrupted and sordid. It needs a complete etch-a-sketch reboot.

They will never build a new stadium, if by some miracle they do do, i will not go , i love the sky blues , i just cannot go any more with the stench of shitsu hovering around.

thats fine, your entitled to your opinion

but it does make me doubt your love for ccfc i must say to be honest.

The club is riddled with the cancer that is SISU. It will not be the club I know and love until that cancer is removed.

The removal will be tough but it will be for the good of the club in the long term.

I wonder if Sisu have taken steps to protect the club's name? I be the phoenix club will be sued to shreds and back if it includes the words 'Coventry' and 'City'

im not attending! lol you cant make up new arguments to win haha

so if sisu do not leave you will waste your lives not supporting ccfc?

sad.

Truly a life spent not supporting a poor third/fourth division team owned by a scummy faceless hedge fund is a life wasted.

I don't see any difference and no benefit to ccfc playing in Sisu's newly built stadium to playing at the Ricoh !!!!
Please somebody explain it to me how will ccfc be better off ?

Put it this way, I have supported CCFC for 27 years nearly however I am already bored on Saturday afternoons not being able (not wanting to travel to sixfields) go to watch CCFC. Like anything in life, the longer it is away the more likely it will be forgotten about and trust me if they do stay in Northampton for 3 to 5 years (even longer) I doubt I will ever support them again on the basis that I will have hoped to find a new pastime. Now please dont say I;m not a supporter crap but there is only so long I will wait. I have a life to get on with.

Who said anyone is not supporting the team. Doing exactly the same as you if you don't attend. Don't get your argument now.

What are they going to change their name to? Where would they franchise to?

Not gonna happen.

Agree about the name. Don't think they have the intention of franchising like MK Dons but fear they won't come back close enough to Coventry to bring fans back and/or stay in Northampton for a lot longer than expected. Wouldn't be shocked if we were still there in 10 years. How long did it take to build the Ricoh from the time it was decided, through finding and buying a site, getting planning permission then building? And that was with a friendly council who were behind the plans! I can see years of arguments over planning permission ahead followed by having to use a site further from Coventry than they initially intended. As always with Sidu it will always be someone else's fault.

my point was if cov come abck to cov i will go,sisu or no sisu

this is a key point. fisher keeps going on about revenue streams etc but when you account for the next few years lost revenue and the cost of the new stadium how does it stack up? if there was a credible business plan there might be a bit more support for a new stadium but there's nothing.

Sorry. Misunderstood. I would too I think.

As long as it is in Coventry and preferably the Ricoh.

Frankly I don't think the FL have a clue how to handle this or any clear idea about the ultimate ramifications that can arise.
