So, we can sign another player..... (3 Viewers)

What do people think we need?

I think another centre half is a priority. After that (if McSheffrey & Jennings leave), maybe be a left winger.......

Nice to talk football for a bit :)

I think our squad with a couple more in, is actually better than under Robins. I do actually buy into SP's sentiments on the importance of having local lads who are emotionally attached to the club and the City. I mean you can't compare the commitment of Daniels, Thomas, Wilson etc to that of players like Bailey last season. I think the youngsters bring passion, enthusiasm and energy.

If the spine of our team is that of Murphy, Webster, another experienced centre half, Baker and Leon Clarke, then I think we could be on for an unlikely play off challenge if the staff can keep our squad fit.

They can sign two but are looking at special dispensation to sign one player at the 75% mark of the wages of the two outgoing players.

I personally would scrap the 'get 1 brilliant player in' notion and just get another 2 bods in. We need strength in depth. I think we already have the quality. We need a good versatile defender who can play centre half and either right back/left back. I would then look at maybe a fast winger.

Fair comment...depends on who that 'one' is though. If it was someone who had a Dennis Wise sort if impact, could be a shrewd move. Hard to judge though.

I would say 1 x quality defender (who has a good injury record) would be our best bet now. Get a winger once Jennings and Sheff have moved on

Honestly, talk of play offs is simply bizarre. Maybe without the 10 points, just maybe.

Realistically we would need championship winning form all season to get to the play offs.

We have won 2 games

Pressley has already acknowledged that he is in the market for a fast winger so I think this will be his priority. We need to keep the squad small and tight to ensure competition for places. Personally I would go for the 1 for 2 approach and get a quality player. If we start to struggle with injuries then we can always see what is available come the January window. There are bound to be a few journeyman footballers who failed to find clubs in the summer.

Also are we able to take players on loan with the embargo still in place?

Oh how times have changed.

We are now happy when we bring in a new player that is on 75% maximum of the player that has just left. Are we slowly being brainwashed? If so at least there will be a few on here immune to it.........:thinking about::wave:

Well we nearly made the play offs last season! There isn't much difference between our -10 points and the first 8 or so games under Thorn & Shaw, in fact it will be interesting to see how many points we have this season after 8-10 games compared with last year...

Edit: I just looked last season, we got 7 points in our first 10 games!

Wage is not equal to player quality

But what sort of player can we bring in for 75% of the money Dunn was on? It is a player for player rule.

Dunn and Malaga's wage's won't be used on that rule.

I don't understand why we are still bound by the one in one out rule now that SISU have finally filed the accounts............ but that aside, assuming for whatever reason we are still embargoed I think a new centre half to partner Webster is the priority, then after that we could do with midfield cover, we are coping without Baker but if we were to lose Mousa to injury before Bakers suspension was over for example we would be in deep doo doo.

Agreed.

We can now bring in a player who will command 75% of the wages of a reserve goalkeeper who we used about 4 times...

Thank you SISU

What you mean maybe without deduction?

We had self imposed deduction last year And nearly made top 6. Maybe we will do same this year

Without shitty starts we would definitely be top 6.

How is is bizarre, just because we had a bad season last dosnt mean this will be the same. Alot of people changed their mind last season, i think we have an honest 50/50 chance of promotion.

Yeah we have only won 2 of our 1st 3 games, bad start isnt it. Lets give up after winning 66% of our games. Lets just hope for another failure why dont we

We have no idea what kind of wage Dunn was on, remember that he was signed when we were in the Championship. And like above posters have said wages =/= quality

If we never got the ten point deduction that play off place prediction wouldn't be that far off as we are starting to look a decent little outfit. But if we can go on a winning run who knows ?It's early days yet and as we know when your team is Coventry City anything can happen !If we can keep hold of what we've got and strengthen we will be okay.
I feel we have to bring in an experienced defender as we are still lightweight there, and someone in midfield,as upfront we should be fine but hopefully Clarke stays but even then there's goals all over in this squad.
Carlisle are poor so the tests ahead will be tougher and we shouldn't get carried away, but how about a few words of praise for Pressley who has taken stick from the start here hasn't he ?he is slowly but surely getting his tactics working, and he has been dignified throughout all the nonsense hasn't he ?

Yes I have to admit I was unimpressed with Elvis last season but through this summer and the start of the season he has really changed my mind. Not just because he has the squad playing well but also because he would have been justified with either making a fuss or walking away from the job but instead he has just quietly got on with the job in hand.

I would like to look at the players most likely to be snapped up and find replacements to start training up so that we don't have any gaps or have to buy anyone on the rush. I would also like an experienced older head - like someone mentioned earlier, a Dennis Wise or someone like that just to bark the squad into action if they're having an off day.

I'd still like another CB. After that a forward with some pace.

We really should be buying first team players under embargo. I'd replace Clarke at CB, who would people drop on the wing?

If he had walked away who would have blamed him ?
The bloke was getting stick when he'd only been here five minutes, but he has just got on with it.
He could yet turn out to be a disaster but let's cut out the negative stuff and give him time,I tell you what even the Special One would struggle with what Elvis has had to work with, and he hasn't slippery Tim Fishface on his back !
