I see they have a Full page spread in the Telegraph trying to sell tickets no mention of where the ground is i.e Northampton and even have the Gaul to put WE ARE COVENTRY on the ad........
Never remember The city doing that before during the season.. but stand to be corrected :D

Advertising is hardly desperate. If we'd have consistently done it before now we might not be in this mess.

Ironic isnt it, the telegraph supporting the keep sky blues in cov campaign and their advertising tickets to go to northampton

Which part is 'tosh' - that advertising isn't desperate or that some kind advertising might have helped draw more people to watch Cov in the past?

Yet more money spent there's another 20 fans needed to pay for it and i see they still don't have a sponsor on the shirts in the ad.

Hopefully they are learning from their mistakes by not doing it before, and return to their rightful home there would be 10,000 tickets sold for the first game......

It is desperate though, especially in not mentioning the venue. They also do this on local radio, again with no mention of the address. Now obviously pretty much everyone in Cov at the moment will know this and resent it but what about the upcoming uptake of tens of thousands of new students in September and other visitors to the City. It's typical SISU incompetence and with a small measure of triumph and spite thrown in. 'We are Coventry' FFS, what a bunch of wankers !!

Marketing has been much improved under Fisher IMO. We actually have a strategy for a change. It's still very safe and uninspired but better than the nothing that preceded it.

I've seen similar ads before, but I imagine they'll step them up.

Serious question: how much do those ads cost? I cant imagine it bringing in more than 10-20 paying customers.

10,000? With all the angst on here surely it would be a sell-put with people locked out of the ground unable to get tickets?

It costs over £50.00 for a funeral ad hopefully this is theirs :D so any extra fans they get will go on the cost of the ad :thinking about:

Omitting killer details is certainly sneaky and counter-productive as you mention; if they want to catch out people who aren't aware we're in Northampton, those people will never get to a game in the first place.

Not sure about desperate though, the club really should be marketing itself more regularly in this manner (I'd echo the points in shmmee's post above). When everything was relatively rosy and we played at the Ricoh, there was very little publicising or attempts to attract casual fans, it was like you had to seek out the club rather than the other way round. They're doing what they should have been doing the whole time now, it's just a shame it coincides with such a mountain of shit.

A half page ad in the motors section costs £500 + the vodka a tonic if that helps, got to be upward of £1200 so 4 season tickets at Sisufields

Yes you are correct with your thinking,I agree SISU would have sold more players, and gained more money. We would have still been in this mess,That is SISU.

Advertising is an integral part of any business, I wouldn't go as far as to say SISU are desperate, but there trying to encourage more fans to attend and the longer this goes on and the advertisements persist then I think people may start to give in IMO.

Of course it'd be nice if this newfound marketing ability was being used to boost crowds of 10,000 rather than 1,000

I think people may well give in but lets be honest City fans are fairly fickle anyway so after they've trecked down the M1 to another county, paid to get in to a League 2 ground and all the facilities that accompany that, then the pressure is on for an amazing team performance. Even those who can't help themselves and attend though are unlikely to become regulars. They can advertise all they like but its doomed to failure unless we're in the top 6 by November.

Of course it would, it's just a shame that the ability of marketing had been lost in recent years.

Did any (former) ST holders get any kind of 'please come see us in Northampton mate' correspondence from the club? I got the emails last season about hospitality boxes for every game and that kind of thing so they've got the right email, but sweet FA about renewing or returning.

Me neither, I've had 20 season tickets since 1992 and not a thing from CCFC since they ripped everything out of the Ricoh before the last 3 home games of last season.

Unless I've deleted any recent ones, the last promotional email I got from them seems to be this:

Doncaster.jpg

The only thing I definitely received since was the link to that supporter survey, but I can't remember if that was automated or we had to opt in.

Hey I've got a spiffing idea, why not play in a stadium within a 5 miles of where the majority of your customer base lives (or have family connections if they travel)!

DO you think 32000 people are posting on here then?

The ad I've seen (via Cov Mad site) clearly states its at Sixfields....

....and City SHOULD have been advertising for years....

I know Everton FC always launch a City-wide billboard campaign to coincide with the 30,000 odd students arriving in Liverpool in September.....

...and they are a huge club in comparison to City....

Is it true the ad only mentions Coventry once, and that being in that ridiculous fucking hashtag We Are Coventry?

Yes it does say Sixfields but does not tell you where sixfields is could be in canley for all some people know, it says WE ARE COVENTRY Not We are Northampton. seems they are embarrassed to put an address on it. Or maybe the extra letters were to expensive for them?

When do the students arrive in Northampton?

They obviously knew they were on to a loser going to Sexfields as it would appear that no season ticket holders have been rallied to support the move.

It's all very "take it or leave it" a completely arrogant stance, an attitude that a club with a massive following may adopt if they had people queing up for tickets and we hardly fit that description!

It is just another total disregard / disrespect for existing long term customers (I'm not saying that you have to have a season ticket to qualify as a "committed fan" but that group are probably the only supporters who the club have details for)?

Exactly the attitude shown by Fisher at the forums.

Well if people in the City do not know where Sixfield is already or where the City are currently playing then there either A) Oblivious to what is happening in there local community or b) Thick. Perhaps both?

Well have they put a contact number on the ad?

Fair enough....I couldn't quite make out the text under the Sixfields line on the ad as I've only seen it via a poor photo on t'interweb....

...I suppose they considered adding the actual location but even the office monkey & YTS tea boy probably suggested it just looked too stupid....

Roll up, roll up...come & see Coventry......nowhere fucking near here...

Do not understand there marketing strategy as a full page in the telegraph costs a fortune but they could not pick up the phone to me and colleagues who for 4 years at the Ricoh had a 12 seat hospitality box and for the rest Premier seats and spent a fortune with all the add on's etc - would not go anyway but that is besides the point never got asked

Keep your eye on the Northampton Chronicle & billboard sites near the University of Northampton's campuses in a few weeks then.

As an aside, Coventry has over 50,000 university students & Northampton has about 13,000, spot the better area to have a football club to attract student trade!
