Should really have been clear at half time by 2 or 3 goals. Shrewsbury much better 2nd half and in the end I guess a draw was a fair result.

another non defeat, which is a positive.

We'd be well in the top half of the league without the 10 points deduction. Well clear of the drop zone and 7 off the top after 5 games.

Wilson waving goodbye & hugging players at the end of the game? Anyone there who can confirm/deny it?

Don't worry, someone will be along to hammer you for criticising SISU with no evidence shortly, and that post will be "liked" by the usual suspects.

Wilson waving and applauding the fans from what I saw didn't look like a goodbye to me

Same here. The sign seemed more "excellent support" than "bye".

Just got home on the excellent Trust coach (thanks Gary). This is the game "a game of two halves" was invented for.

First half we were sharp, moved the ball quickly with purpose, pressed well all over the pitch. Second they targeted Haynes, stopped playing in front of us, kept the ball better and started pressuring the back four.

We did what we've done a lot of in recent years and started dropping deep, making wasteful or just downright poor passes (Baker I'm looking at you) and trying far too hard to both pass it out of the back and pass it into the net. Pressleys inability to change the course of a game worries me, as does his reluctance to make changes. We should've been 3-4 up at half time and even though they scored quickly they didn't dominate the game straight away, Pressley should've taken off some of those well below par a lot earlier than he did.

I'll give some scores if you like, but its hard considering the difference in performance between the halves.

Murphy - 7: Pulled off a couple of cracking saves to keep up in it, also scared my shitless a few times coming for things he shouldn't.

Christie - 8 (MOTM): One of the few to perform both halves and thanks to Baker going AWOL often had to be the entire right wing. Was probably our most dangerous player bar Wilson and should've been less greedy at the end after a great run into the box.

Haynes - 7: nervy first 20 mins or so, looked a bit lightweight at times (he is 17!) and didn't win much in the air. Was rightly targeted as a weakness but overall considering his age and experience can be proud, didn't do anything awful and had one or two excellent blocks. Did nothing going forward, but can't really blame him.

Clarke - 6: At fault for their goal, simple as that. Had a good first half and covered well but second half couldn't deal with their sub and dallied on the ball far too much, leading to their goal.

Webster - 7: was fairly solid and less worrying in the ball than his partner. Not the rock is envisage though and very little communication, which is worrying considering his role as the old head in defence. Also refuses to jump for headers, which annoys me.

Fleck - 6: Started well and was excellent off the ball first half. Passing went to shit second half and was partly responsible for us getting overrun in the middle after the break. Would like to see him and Connor step up when we're under pressure and help take the game away from the 18 yard line.

Thomas - 6: Solid if not spectacular all game. Ran and ran. Not the player he can be yet, Im not quite sure what's being asked of him in this position but Id like to see him take control in the middle. Was guilty along with Fleck and Baker of "flickiness" at times second half.

Moussa - 6: Didn't really click for him, ran into dead ends a lot and wasn't the threat second half he was first.

Baker - 5: Was Baker. On a bad day. Lacklustre passing, some ridiculous choices of pass (always Hollywood) and never where Christie needed him to be. Worked hard as always, but was probably responsible more than anyone for both attacks losing momentum and giving the ball away.

Clarke - 5: Poor, won nothing in the air and produced little at the sharp end. Should've scored when Wilson gave him it on a plate. Would like to have seen Manset given a run as we were getting nothing from Clarke.

Wilson - 8: Would be MOTM if he had better service. Ran and ran. Hassled the defence constantly. Took his goal really well, could've had at least another and really should be coming back with an assist for some of the most unselfish forward play I've seen in a long time.

Pressley - 4: Didn't respond to the action on the pitch at all. Was out thought by his opposite number. I like what he's building, but like Boothroyd and Thorn, where's Plan B for when were figured out?

SBA - 8: Excellent voice first half, understandably muted second. All pro CCFC with (to my ears) a couple of brief SISU OUT and one "Northampton's a shithole, I want to go home." Didn't hear "Forward!" once, which as a previously home only fan is refreshing. Did start to get at the team a little towards the end when old habits came back, but overall very supportive of a young team and sang and clapped the players off.

Edit: autocorrect. Autocorrect everywhere. Hope it still makes sense.

I haven't yet seen the team an we seem to be doing alright going forward at the moment but I still feel our lack of natural width will be found out eventually

Not really. We don't really play like that. Going forward we are fine but the defence is far too naive. We will concede goals every game and like today, with a young team that will cause heads to drop and the gameplan to go out of the window.

Someone pacy out wide would be good to give us an option, but a traditional winger wouldn't fit into this team IMO.

Edit: our fullbacks give us lots of width. Christie was excellent today but Haynes couldn't do the same, which harmed us.

We need a decent left back and keeper, Murphy doesnt bark out instructions and doesnt command his box, looked some jaded players 2nd half should have won comfortably in the end, thats 2 points dropped in my book...

Physio went straight to Murphy at HT so I think he may be carrying a knock.

GK isn't and doesn't need to be a priority right now as Burge is an adequate back up and Murphy is a top keeper in this division

Haynes was okay, doesn't have the forward prowess of Blair Adams, for his age and experience you can understand why he looked nervous and that showed in his game

Murphy got an elbow in the chest during one of their rare first half attacks.

Agreed. He was our weak link because he's young and inexperienced. Not because he lacks ability.

In hindsight (baring in mind I've not seen Willis) Id rather have Clarke and Christie at full back and Willis in the middle. But hindsight is 20/20.

Oh and the ref and the Lino by block 1 were awful. I thought Pressley was going to twat the Lino at one point :D

Completely agree, Ref gave a handball against Wilson when it's was definitely a foul against Wilson and at that point Wilson was one on one..

Got to say I got a lot of stick before the game from an ex lady in my life who thought there fans were going to sing us out there ground.. They were as quiet as a library and have made her aware of that..

Decent game. Should have won 1st half performance. Could have easily lost second half. Wilson is a prospect n half. Hope we keep him. Calm as a cucumber. Christie good game. The ginger in defence did well for a young lad. Murphy did well. Good pass from Baker for goal, not much else though.

Deserved a win but happy with draw overall. SBA good voice 1st half. Keep it up boys. Bed time for me now. Been up since yesterday morning. Wings aint working any more.

Yes a game of two halves their keeper pulled of at least 3 good saves from pile drivers in the first half. Where as we had a couple of goal line clearances in the second> mistake cost us again.
And the lad in the hat with no friends got arrested at the pub for goading the city fans and nearly causing a riot. So not to bad a day full of entertainment.

We need Christie going forward, yesterday he played as a winger and full back, and was a real threat going forward.

A Shrewsbury fan verdict on the game;

very pleased with the draw Coventry in the first half were the best team I have seen at this level of football with pace skill and quality all over the pitch it was clear why they have scored so many goals this season our two centre halves looked slow lacking skill and mobility we were lucky not to be three or four goals down at the break . second half was a breath of fresh air not that Coventry stopped making chances but we started to compete ,with an excellent equaliser and even at times looking for a winner which I think on the game as a whole a draw was a fare score .there were a lot of Coventry fans sat in block 19 today right behind me and when salop scored I expected it all to kick off but instead they left early with the home fans in hot pursuit .

RATINGS FOR YESTERDAY

MURPHY 7 - Good distribution and made a brilliant save late on when it looked like we were going to be stung on the counter

CHRISTIE 8 - Really has progressed hugely over the last year, showing what playing games can do for a young player...MUST KEEP

CLARKE 7 - Despite his mistake leading to the equaliser, thought it was one of his better games

WEBSTER 7 - Looks a solid defender would more than likely benefit from playing with an actual centre half

HAYNES 6 - Not ready for the first team, but does the simple things well. On his only venture forward, he tried and failed to beat his man, a decent prospect nevertheless

BAKER 6 - So many times he could have continued on his run but looked for the hollywood ball and the move broke down

THOMAS 5 - Reminiscent of sideways Sammy, he doesn't go forward and looks nervous in possession, Barton should have been given at least 20

FLECK 6 - A few great passes first half, but was often overrun in midfield and needs someone with a bit of presence to help him out

MOUSSA 6 - Not at his best but wasn't helped by the non-existent attacking threat of Haynes, much better in the hole of a 4-2-3-1

WILSON 8 - Highlights what pace can do for a team, he also holds the ball up extremely well

CLARKE 6 - Decent first half and would have finished off Shrewsbury if not for a superb block when he latched onto Wilson's pull back

DANIELS 4 - Nothing but two crap corners

PRESSLEY 6 - The football isn't hoofball but it certainly isn't liquid, perhaps because he has his hands tied with the restricted squad. Still think he needs to utilise Moussa and Manset more as they are the technically best footballers at the club. Before the window shuts we need another centre half and a central midfielder to get a hold of the game. PRESSLEY.jpg

Funny how we all see things differently.

I had Thomas as my MoM yesterday - frequently won possession for us and I can't remember him giving the ball away all through the game.

I'd agree that he didn't do much that was "spectacular" but, for me, he was holding our midfield together.

Just seen the goals, and what was Jordan Clarke doing for their goal? Should never have turned his back from goal, and even when he'd lost possession, he should have taken a card for the team, as it was obvious no one would have been covering his position with him supposed to be playing CB
