1) We have a 32,000 seater stadium but attendances of 16,000 which means each fan gets their own seat to put their feet up on during a game. - show some respect!

2) Twist and Shout and its still only a pound. - still awful, was never even that funny in the pre-internet era now its just old news irelevant and pointless. Should be consigned to history

3) We are the least successful football team in the football league over the past 40 years meaning our time is surely due. - Err no it doesn't and if anything the reverse is true

4) Michael Mcindoe has left the club. - MM was a hard working scapegoat who caused no problems but had no pace and that wasn't his fault, blame who signed him.

5) Whilst the team has been unsuccessful the match day programme won “best value matchday programme in the Championship” award for last season - does this now mean it wont win it for 40years? Full of adverts, waste of money, never buy one.

6) Now Marlon King has gone Ann Lucas can now come back and support her team which means an extra ticket sale each week. - Grrrrrrrrreat! Fickle fan who showed no respect for the law just to promote her own profile. Odious individual like many councillers.

7) We have the goal machine Freddy Eastwood upfront who comes off the bench runs to the halfway line and then is nackard for the rest of the game. - lazy expensive overrated player who has never achieved at this level and not been prolific for over five years. If anyone is foolish enough to take him he must go

8) We sign good young players like Fox, Dann, Westwood, Keane and then we sell them for a profit or let them go on a free to a bigger club. Yeah we are a selling club but hey its always nice to see them go onto better things so we can say “he used to play for us”.- we sell tham at the first opportunity and don't get the fruits of their labour as they make mistakes whilst they learn with us

9) We get a new manager every year which means we get a honeymoon period each season where we earn just enough points to stave off the threat of relegation. At Coventry we don't believe in stability. - We need a balanced management team given time to implement their ideas and a workable open budget available

10) We sold our old stadium which we owned to rent a 32,000 seater stadium that we can't fill but every summer we get to go and see Bon Jovi, Take That, Pink and the Kings of Leon live in concert. Although I'm disappointed my season ticket does not cover these. - and we dont get a penny from any of them only highlighting what an even more ridiculous decision it is not to have ownership due to shortsighted mismanagement for many years.

I've not had a sense of humour bypass and I realise that your article was supposed to be light hearted but it doesn't even make a decent point and tbh isn't funny either!

Kind of wonder how you never buy one yet can still claim it to be a waste of money

Sorry I'm with Rob on this. I was hoping it would be a genuine "Reasons to be Positive" article wheras it's now reminded why we don't get more fans; our's are so bloody miserable to listen to.
We actually have a number of reasons to be positive but everyone seems more than happy to ignore them over the doom and gloom bullshit.

Ok just you I'mARealPedant, I used to buy one many years ago, but became disillusioned with the content of old news, adverts and being imo over-priced. I no longer feel it represents value for money and have ceased purchasing a copy. Is that ok for you?

Thank you for the amendment. It reads much clearer now :)

I'm not a miserable fan but i know where your coming from, this article was done tongue in cheek and unfortunately i sit around a lot of moaners at the ground. But they always say "what have we actually had to cheer about"? when we sign a player yes it is great but we have not had any real on pitch success for a while now and that's their point of view, although i don't completely share it.

You can't please everybody, but on the making a decent point I was bored seen nobody had posted an article for a while so just thought i would do one. You should give a go sometime

For what purpose should I "give one a go"?

Sorry, we've not conversed prior to this so I don't want it to appear that I'm looking for a bitching match, but I don't see much different in posting an article as opposed to opening a new thread.

If I'm being totally honest then for an article to be published I would expect it to be raising points of interest or debate that re not found on the forum and better written than the average posts on the forum. I don't believe yours ticks any of those boxes, but this is not my excuse to have a 'pop' at you as you're not alone, because I don't think many of the other articles do either. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but it would be better imo if the moderators used their editing powers or artistic licence to select the threads that they feel merit an article and move them accordingly.

I respect your opinion rob and neither am i looking for a bitching match either. i take your criticism on board and don't see it as you taking a "pop" at the end of the day the comment box for writing an article is their for a reason but i do think the article has been taken a bit too seriously :)

I like your summary of the forum, but if the mods start doing what you've suggested the site will end up like covmad -- just a couple of close knit friends having chit chat, at least on here , you can say what you want and can post a thread or article without getting slated.

And here was me genuinely looking forwards to some optimistic points that the likes of Gandhi would have been proud of! Sigh* Let down

The site is run for the fans so I think it is only fair all of the fans should get their say. I could understand if this was a forum about the English Language but it isn't.

As long as it isn't completely pointless / off topic or offensive then people can pretty much what they want on here.

I think with you sitting slating any article people write just puts them off coming on here / participating which is a bit out of order. Fair enough you may not like it, you don't have to be so harsh about it though.

What's your problem?

For a start try reading what I wrote!

I have no problem with anything being on the forum.. as I typed! I was suggesting that the articles not the forum posts should be better written and yes I think articles should be written/typed in a higher standard of English. Is that clear enough .. or do you mean by free speech on this forum only if it agrees with your viewpoint?

I've loved this forum for the past few months ive been registered, but I find that your comments are quite 'smart ass', but that's what's good, anyone can comment ;

  • Ones who likes to sit and analyze
  • Ones who likes to stand and swear
For the 28 years i've been alive that's (simplified) how I see it at the matches

My point was that people aren't professional writers or authors so sometimes the English won't be grammatically perfect. I don't just mean this post but you seem to just slate every article written which puts people off trying to write them and get their points across.

I don't have a problem, I just see you are quick to have a go when other people are trying something new. They don't claim to be the best writers in the world they just want to try something new ;)

People can say what they want if I agree or not, I don't remember saying that everybody must agree with everything I say? Just being so harsh can scare people away / put them off even though you probably don't mean to.

I actually disagree with a lot of the posts on here :)

I've "slated" two, maybe three (you deleted one of them) articles. Is this one not justified since not one person has come out in support of a single point but others have expressed their agreement to my response?

As it was I only criticised the content ... this is a forum, so I debated each point ... which imo were all valid, only criticising the general level of English when challenged and it was suggested that I write an article. Fwiw I think I contribute enough without articles, but my understanding was that the writers receive remuneration (based on hits?) for what they do - is that not the sporting definition of professional? If they do, then I would expect them to be better than the average post.

I realise it's your bat and ball so I'll make this my last post on the subject and ensure in future that I only discuss articles I like, because as we all know everyone agreeing with something makes for a real healthy forum debate ....

Everybody can play with my bat and ball, I was not saying anything like that and by no means it is not "what I say goes" like you are trying to make out ;)

I also didn't say that you don't contribute did I?

A forum is made for debating but being a bit harsh sometimes isn't fair when people are a bit scared to post because they get slated.
