Gills fans talking about our team (1 Viewer)

At 2-1 we got off lightly but strangely we weren't THAT bad. Coventry were very, very good. They looked like a Championship team, retained possession and gave us the run-around. The way their forwards drifted into spaces was very impressive. We tried hard and made it difficult but were ultimately outclassed. Martin and Weston disappointed most. Martin is so one-footed, it's scary.

A mention for Cov who must have one of the strongest front lines in this league, Leon Clarke a real handful, and their right back seriously quick - quicker than our own Weston.

Went to the coventry game, one word to sum us up- awful!!
We sat back way to much, chased the game from the first minute till the last, we were found out 2 minutes into the game and coventry embarrassed us!

I do hope the Coventry match stats were wrong. 25 shots to our 6, 8 on target to our 3 not great.

why is this??

How many academy players did we have in our squad today, was it nine? Clearly, a team with that many kids should be pissing the league. Valiant said so, although I don't recall too many posts from him over the summer suggesting the coming season was going to be a promotion party.

hmmm

A survey of any fans at the start of the season saying "clarke and wilson up front, will we piss the league"

I am sure the answer wouldnt have been YES

The quality of this league is piss poor. Even with our light squad we should be fighting at the top end. I bet the wolves and sheff utd fans are expecting promotion. Why shouldn't we? We don't belong in league 1.

Well Sheffield Utd aren't pissing the league and won't be any time soon, it seems your gripe is more with the fans and there expectations and small club mindset rather than the actual quality of the team

I'd agree we shouldn't have been in this league in the first place, we are here through mis management and over the last 18 months all the off field shit has stopped us getting out. We need to get back up as quickly as possible

Being realistic though with all the off field rubbish, 10 point deduction and still a lack of depth in the squad promotion is unlikely, is it good enough for us to be a midtable league 1 club. No it isn't, but it is the reality of where we are at the moment

SP said he would be happy to avoid relegation
This did annoy me a bit tbh, we should be pushing for at least top half now

I'm hoping it is some clever mind game to keep the pressure off the young lads rather than the truth, then when we storm the league Pressley can say he always believed the team could do it but played down expectations to keep the pressure off

or he realised that we would be happy to avoid relegation

5 weeks ago, many would have snapped peoples at this

I can't understand the big deal tbh. We should be pissing this league along with wolves.

last year we should have but this season?

7-8 good players and rest is academy kids

before season started everyone was tipping us for relegation, now we play so well its being taken for granted.

Our fans expectations have always been to low. Its great that the team is playing well but I personally can't get excited about beating the likes of Gillingham. Maybe ive just lost the bug.

It is difficult to keep the bug given everything that's happened. I'm just delighted that this young group of players are apparently playing good football and are clearly getting results. What they've done this year is outstanding. Here's hoping they can continue the good work and can actually achieve something.

To be fair, before the 10 point deduction Pressley was talking about promotion and everyone was talking about how deluded he was.

This.

We shouldn't be in this league, but as said above, this is where we find ourselves currently.

If we stormed to promotion, winning the league in the process, would you just shrugs you shoulders and say "meh, I expected that"?

It would be restoring ourselves to the division SISU found us in. People can talk about how great it is for the kids to be doing well at the moment, and that a team of kids shouldn't be walking the league, but ask yourself why we're having to field such a side and why we're in this division in the first place. Saying that-should the circus off the field ultimately resolve itself we should be looking to this league as the ideal opportunity to create a winning mentality around the club which has been missing for as long as I can remember.
