One discussion made me think about this hypothetical scenario.

If sisu hand given fisher the reign at the start where would we be? I think we'd own the Ricoh and would have experienced premiership football during his tenure.

Don't think it would make much of a difference. No disrespect to either man, my opinion is both are just puppets with people behind the scenes pulling the strings.
The only difference may have been choice of manager and their way if balancing the books with the obvious bit if 'luck'

Difference is Ranson left when he realised what he had got himself into. Walked away probably with less than he walked in with. Poor judgement especially from someone like him.

Fisher came on board knowing fully what he was getting involved in. Can't walk away unless something drastically changes due to pressure from others.

Edit: Don't always agree with what you have to say Grendel but I don't see what the issue is with this thread myself. You're asking a genuine and relevant question. Obviously replies/opinions will differ but isn't that the point of a forum?

Ranson walked away when he couldn't personally trouser anymore money out of the club.

If the club had selected robins or Pressley instead of Coleman, boothroyd or thorn would we have done better at the outset? Would waggot have sanctioned the ludricous Eastwood signing? Think on.

No way. However the OP was not about Waggott was it? He's someone that I personally have a lot of time for. Can't really fault the guy for what he's done here or at Charlton. Yes Ranson made mistakes but he did what he could. Bought in some crap but I'd say the good signings outweigh the bad ones. He left for the right reasons and wasn't the only one that decided enough was enough.

Ranson left for the right reasons yep - he left because he was a dismal failure, a disaster and his cunning short term plan for the club was an utter, utter failure.

I do agree in retrospect that Chris Coleman wad not a good manger. Nice enough guy but failed as a manager with the resources he had. I think his tenure as Wales manager will be over soon to. Talks well but not focussed enough. Mark Robins, Stephen Pressley and too a certain extent Aiddy Boothroyd show what can be done by good management.

Fisher employed waggott. Ranson employed Coleman, Keane and thorn. So you agree fisher bringing waggott in was good?

I think most Random purchases were good with some obvious Freddie exceptions.
We can only guess why he left, but I suspect he wasn't happy with where SISU were running the operation. If true he made the right judgement call.

Absolutely! Can't deny Waggott is a good pick up. Thorn was a good scout and that's what he should of stuck to. If he had, he'd probably still be doing it now for us. At the time though could it be that Thorn was the only one willing to take the job? There wasn't a very long list. If he hadn't taken it who was next in line? The tea lady? Bus driver? Yeah he didn't have/need to take it but fair play to him for having a go. When he had a reasonable squad he did well. After they all left due to incompetence above and not really replaced he struggled as anyone would.

Not long before Coleman was appointed he had been sacked by Real Sociedad (change of President) despite them being clear by some margin at the top of the Spanish second tier and done a reasonable job at Fulham before hand. So considering that he wasn't such a bad appointment at the time, although yes his time here wasn't great.

It depends how you look at it. If Fisher left tomorrow his tenure would be the worst in the clubs history, compared to Ransons relatively stable leadership.

We would of bought the Ricoh and seen Prem football...FFS i just nearly fell off my sofa. If Sisu would of sorted out the rent deal on day 1 with an option to buy instead of chasing RR dream we would be in a better position now....35 mill invested chasing the prem instead of getting the foundation sorted, has been and will always be sisu problem, today they are still doing the same....

As for TF he has not been good for this club and for me has not brought one positive to this already bad situation... JS has got no idea about this club, history or cities culture she has hired and listened to all these people who have failed her,, to the point admitting she would not invest giving her time again in the club.... Relegation, late accounts, transfers embargo's and administration have come our way and TF will be remembered for NTFC being forever connected with our club...Not a proud part of our long history in fact the most disturbing and harmful, Sisu, TF, KD, RR and the other clown have made massive impact all in the wrong direction and one all should never be proud of...

You may have people laughing at you for this, but I suspect fans would have been more onside for SISU v council early on. See for example the pressure fans put on other fans to give up their shares so SISU took over as they wished.

Also with the famous clock is ticking near death experience, there would have been political pressure opn the council not to let the chance of a 'saviour' slip through their fingers.

However... it's worth bearing in mind there was an alternative deal floating around from a rival that offered more cash but wanted more land, so perhaps the political pressure wasn't there, because such an attempt on the Ricoh wasn't attempted, was maybe why SISU won the club in the first place.

I'd suggest the foundations of the club may have been stronger, but our investors may not have been happier, and our league position may not have been better. The hypotehtical is then what plan K would have been, had the earlier plans been similar to current efforts.

Just when it becomes tempting to grow fond of you Grendel, you pull silly shit like this, neatly underlining the suspicions of many that you are nothing more than a WUM. I seriously think there are some psychological/emotional problems here... 'no, get away, can't you see I'm a freak!'

Sorry about that. Thought the scenario was different! Either way, point still stands, the appointment wasn't considered a bad one back then.

An outrageous claim to say we would have experienced premiership football, I do think however Fisher and Waggot would have done a better job than Ranson and co.

Ranson didn't get us relegated, and many of the players here under his tenure have since played in the Premier League.

Fisher and Waggot weren't in control until Christmas of the year we were relegated so I don't hold them majorly responsible for the relegation

Ken Deluded was largely the reason we were relegated that season (with the staff and players that Ranson recruited)

Really? How many out of the percentage signed are in the premier league? Remember fox and dann were dowie signingsMore pertinently how many of his managers have been a success including our beloved thorn? Answer; none.

The more pertinent issue is ground ownership. Ranson had a lazy ill conceived thought process towards this when the owners were popular. If fisher had his ruthless zeal towards stadium ownership in 2007 I think fans reaction would have been very different.

Ranson had all his best players sold from under his feet one of the reasons he left as for Eastwood I remember fans on the phone in on CWR saying that we should buy him that is why he became so popular even though he wasn't performing. As for fisher it is his attitude and complete contempt for everyone that has got us where we are, we would just have been playing in Northampton earlier. AS for Robins and Pressley one was still playing football the other was to busy walking away from another club

That is why this post is rather irrelevant IF IF IF IF IF

I think you will find both invest(ed) heavily in the club. fishe gets paid by results.
With Fisher:
I think we would be higher up the leagues than we are now. Even though I don't agree with what happened since his tenure started. He just has the wrong role at the moment. Being cast as the villain he has virtually no chance of winning the stay away fans over. Or for that matter becoming a hero when the club is back 'in Coventry'.

I think Ranson would have been much more successful in securing Ricoh ownership.

Fisher is an arrogant turd who seems to have gone out of his way to antagonise the council from day one.

I remember when Ranson was there a local councillor telling me how good the relationship between football club and council was at that time.

So, since Fisher has been in charge we've been relegated from the Championship and performed very average in a league with far less quality. Makes sense.

That's not what I said though is it? I said if in 2007 he took over had waggott at his side we would have recruited a better manager, identified better players and made a real attempt to wrestle control of the Ricoh in 2007.

The only reason I'd be interested in a Fisher V Ranson thread is if it was advertising their imminent fight to the death....

On the basis of what?
