Same as you Paxman, perhaps Jeffers or Bigrimana in place of either wood or McPake depending on how they do in pre season. As i would prefer more potential game changers on the bench rather than 3 defenders

Other option is play McSheff as a striker and play Baker behind the strikers (where he used to at Stockport)

He scored 14 goals before feb behind the strikers at stockport, worth a try to be fair

Exactly. I rate Baker tbh and with McSheffrey not being fast but knowing where the net is, I wouldn't mind him upfront with Baker behind. Not to mention I don't like Eastwood...

McSheffrey did very well playing just behind the front 2 forwards towards the end of last season. It would seem likely that he will play there again, just behind Platt and Eastwood

Turner up front wouldn't supprise many lol, he had a decent goal scoring record just before he got injured!

Chief Commentator!
Just from what im hearing from AT in the interviews etc, my team may have some surprises! It isnt the team id want to see, however I think it may be the team that starts.

...............................Murphy............. ..............

Clarke..............Turner.........Keough.......... Hussey
...............................Clingan...............................

....................Juke................[New signing].. .............

Sub: Dunn, Baker, Wood, Platt, Crainie, Thomas, Eastwood

Choosing between Turner and Crainie is a tough call TBH, but I got the impression last season AT prefers Keough at CB, and as he was an ever present, he isnt gonna give up his starting place easily! Plus AT rates Clarke very highly and if he thinks he will be in Prem within 3 years, hes not likely to keep him on the bench at this point is he! I also think he will see Freddy as the Freddy we seen at the end of last season, and therefore will be in the market for a partner for Jutkiewicz.

Ive included Bell, but only because hes the best option out of the players we have. I was going to put [New player] here too, but think we'd struggle to bring in two players!! Thats how desperate things are getting!

McSheff should never play up front, behind the front two is the role made for him and he plays it well. No need to defend, just find the gaps to pop up with a goal. He's a luxury player and should be treated as such.

Murphy
Keogh Cranie Turner Hussey
Clingan
Deegan Bell
McSheffrey
Jutkiewicz Eastwood

S: Dunn, Clarke, McPake, Thomas, Bigirimana, Baker, Platt

I'm glad there's someone who rates the guy, I remember when he first came to cov near the end of the other season, he was skipping past players decent crosses and creating a lot of chances then came along boothroyd who starts thumping the ball forward, for players like macca abaker and bell, they are never going to play well, I think them 3 will shock a few with how good they actually are in a footballing team.
Also I heard that o donovan is looking good in training, maybe see what he's like in pre season, aparently the telegragh said he is usually first in the sprints, long time since we had a quick player!

Apart from tommy's obvious assessment that we will be without certain players everyone is calling pretty much the same tune.
Wonder if AT will see it that way? My original pick was based on the system AT has threatened to continue with.

Extremely negative! I think we all know it's gonna be the diamond. With Clingan holding and Sheffers at the tip. Juke and Fred up top? Defence?I have no idea. Personally I'd go for Keogh mcpake turner Hussey. Or maybe Clarke Keogh Craine Hussey? Or maybe.....oh fuck knows. Hussey plus three others!pusb

The reason we all pick roughly the same team is because we only have a few options. But at least what players we have will quickly learn each others game/role in the formation as, injuries aside, we'll have continuity. It's part of the "tight-knit" phrase AT uses. It worked brilliantly for Burnley when they went up, but relies massively on luck with injuries-and a squad of determined players who don't relax when they lack competition for their shirt.

I think the only places up for grabs are RB, Deegan or Baker CM, and who to partner Lukas;

GK-Murphy automatic 1st choice.
RB-Clarke pushing Keogh if fit, and I think Keogh will play CB otherwise.
LB-Hussey. No other natural LB at the club. Not that I don't rate him very highly.
RCB-Keogh if Clarke fit, Cranie otherwise.
LCB-Turner if fit, otherwise Wood/McPake/Cranie (Cranie probably RCB v Leicester).
DMC-Clingan.
RCM-Deegan or Baker. Deegan likely as he offers more steel and Baker/Bell together is somewhat lightweight.
LCM-Bell
AMC-McSheffrey
RCF-Eastwood/Platt. Take your pick, but AT will probably go with Freddy. And much as I've almost given up on Freddy, you just watch AT fix him.;)
LCF-Lukas.

Thats my opinion in terms of who is realistically in with a shout of starting. In effect, it's a 16 man core squad, and 5 of them AT prefers at CB (with Cameron also in reserve). I don't see Thomas as a starter yet unless injuries/suspensions force the issue, ditto O'Donovan, Jeffers, etc.

I'd give up on Eastwood if he played for my team. He attends my local gym at Sketchley Grange in Burbage, and only goes in the jacuzzi with his fat gyppo mates - lazy b*gger wants to do some exercising !!

If thorn fixes eastwood he is in the wrong job.

I kinda agree with much of what you say. When on-song and confident, Baker is capable of stuff that no-one else in the squad can do. But he reminds me of that wonderful commentary phrase "he had too much time" : if he just does his thing, it often comes off and he can bamboozle defenders. When he stops to think about it, he often takes the wrong option! He also wears his heart on his sleeve and when he screws things up often shows his frustration, and I can remember times when that's happened and the crowd have got on his back-and you see the confidence drain away. All told though, he'll have a big part to play. I think the Thorn formation, be it in the middle 2 or the hole, helps his game much more than 442 where he ends up as a wide-man (which he isn't really, as neither is Bell).

Would be nice to see Roy. I'm surprised he hasn't had a chance. He is bloody quick, and next to our other forwards looks even faster!
