The forgotten man but dont get too excited was still against Nuneaton....more impressed with Conor Thomas 2 assist and ran the midfield from the few reports coming out be good to hear from people who actually went....

O'Donovan looked very good tbf, had a couple of chances before he scored. He was quick and beat defenders no problem. Id like to see him play against norwich to see if he can cut it but he looked worth a shot today.
Thomas looked top class aswell today, can tell why liverpool were interested. He controlled the midfield and with a bit more experience he'll be a very dangerous player.
The game on a whole was very much a pre season game. We controlled the ball for long periods of time but you could tell there was no eurgency (sp?) to create anything. That changed in the second half but then the passing got a tad more sloppy, but i suppose it was expected with the inexperienced team that was put out for that half. But overall i dont think we can moan, i highly doubt AT is, it was a decent pre season performance.

Yes he certainly deserved his goals, Connor Thomas was again very good, can certainly see why liverpool wanted him. But for me the pick of the bunch was Gael Bigirimana, just ran the midfield along with ruffels and thomas.
The second half was certainly a reason to be positive. And Gary Hoffman stood next to my dad at the game and from what he could hear Hoffman said 'atleast SISU are going to listen to us now'...so fingers crossed!

I wouldn't say he ran the midfield, but he showed a lot of vision.
Gael Bigirimana was very impressive and great to watch, his passing was very smooth and controlled at times. Also the free kick that almost curled in the net :claping hands:
Agree what people have said about Conor Thomas he was running the mid field and showed some great skill looks like Sammy's taken him under his wing a bit
Shaun Jeffers also looked rather good upfront very skillful player next to Roy who has gone up in my estimations.
Callum Wilson (correct me if I'm wrong on his name) also battled really hard
The passion and energy from the second team fielded today should definitely give the fans something to look forward to, just a few tweeks to their game and I think there is a few gems in our youth.
One thing clear from todays game in my opinion is that we really do need a striker in that first team. Freddie still looked abit lazy and wasn't given Juke the help he wanted

"Freddie still looked abit lazy" I agree pigeon, I didn't even realise he was on the pitch till 15mins of the first half had gone, but we are stuck with him.
After watching the game i was impressed with gael,thomas and odonavon be good to c how they get on as they get fitter and play against better quality teams! But all in all friendlys r there to biuld fitness and understanding so not botherd bout any results b gud how far we come when we play norwich probably the only friendly i wud want a result and a performance

They'll all say it's not about the score and stuff, but about getting ready for the season.. think if we were to play them in a cup game or something, the score would be much different

I think it was Macca who said on a previous post that if we didnt beat Nuneaton the doom and gloom merchants would be worried for our season. Yet had we won, they'd have been positive for the forthcoming season!
Dont forget, it is pre season, and they're not competitive like proper games! Time to worry is if we dont win any of our opening fixtures!!

Some people don't understand the reason for pre-season games, especially the first couple. The only reason is to get fitness levels up and try new players/formations. Both sides don't go full force for fear of injuring either themselves or the opposition. It's one step up from a training session.
On topic: with King going and the lack of funds, there's a golden chance for a striker to stake a claim as the goalscorer of the club, it's a real shame to see Freddy throw that chance away, if ROD grabs it I'm 100% behind him. After all, who would have though DJ Campbell would be a Prem striker, or that Jay Bothroyd would win an England cap? Players can change, especially strikers.

Gael was absolute quality. Within about 5 minutes of watching him, Riochs' Essien comparison made perfect sense. He looks very similar in style to that Sunday guy we were linked with: picks the ball up deep, gives and goes, runs off the ball into space to give an option to team-mates, lots of 1-2's, incredibly quick for a centre-mid, and decent vision. Took all the corners and almost scored with dipping, curling FK and another swerving shot from wide. Looks like he has real leadership qualities too-he never stopped talking, and led the players in applauding the fans. I think he already offers more than Aron did last season. He could also play that Clingan role as he did yesterday. Looks the most exciting youth player since McSheffrey to me.
Thomas was alright, and his passes for the goals showed his potential in AT's style of play. He made the odd little error, but hey, it's a pre-season game. Jeffers seems to have grown and is much stronger than before. Could be a better option than Platt, as he has some pace. Wilson showed a couple of nice touches, but was a bit naive, and Ruffles was ok but missed an absolute sitter.
Cyrus Christie also deserves a special mention. He got forward really well and got stuck-in defensively. He was as effective at LB 2nd half as he was at RB 1st half. Big, strong and quick-he also communicated well with the other players. His barn-storming run 2nd half was one of the highlights of the match.
As for Roy O (anthem to the tune of the song that was the theme to the old Trio advert?!?)...he was great
Looked fairly similar to the guy who did ok in the odd game for Sunderland and Blackpool. And that's certainly something BSN defences won't cope with. With more experienced players around him, he'd have scored 4-5, and he looked frustrated as he made great runs into goalscoring positions but the pass didn't come in time. We went onto "O'Donovan Cam" in the 2nd half: he constantly found space, a real live-wire in the box, and I'll say with confidence that he is our quickest player since Mifsud. He also seems to be very 2-footed, as illustrated by his 2nd goal. I said to my mate "he's gonna score here..." about 8 seconds before he buried it in the top corner. Gotta be worth a go next season, and I've said numerous times-look at his record at Hartlepool on loan. That would have been 23-30 goals over a full season, and put him in the Austin/Mackail-Smith type brackett. He looks every bit as good as them to me!
