Are you honestly being that naive. What young player who is hungry wouldn't want to showcase himself on a bigger stage with the prospect of earning 7 or 8 timers what he is on now. The only decent and hungry players who have stayed on at the clubs they were at as kids is people like Steven Gerrard, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes to name a few, but look at the clubs they were playing for. Of course he is going to say that he is happy at Coventry, would be a stupid thing if he didn't. Would have probably been in the bomb squad otherwise.

Firstly, young kids get injured a lot but as they get older and stronger they become more robust and not so injury prone. Even if you were proved right and he was playing in the reserves, do they not play week in week out ?

It may happen and it may not, but as you say he is very hungry and with that comes ambition and like I said, every now and some young kids take to the big stage like a duck to water. Who is to say Callum isn't one of them, he has two things that scare defenders to death, pace and power and on top of that he can finish and them's the ones that are like gold dust. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot more clubs are keeping tabs on him, because there are no other clubs where both their strikers are the top scorers in the league.

This guy has clicked well with his strike partner this season, he wasnt in the running last season so who is to say he has 'come of age?' I think he is a cracking young talent and i am not suprised that Newcastle are looking at him, we hold a bit more power in that he has signed a contract but i think he will wait until the end of the season. If we get promoted, then he stays, if we dont then good luck to him.

A move for Wilson would be too soon ... he's only just started playing regularly this season and would be a gamble for Premier League sides. Needs to be playing every game and also proving his fitness after a few injuries in the past.

In my opinion he would only get better if he were to be training with the likes of cabaye and ben arfa and coming up against collocinni every day in training.

Its sad to say but footballers have to look after number 1, I would love to see him stay and develop with SP and the rest of the squad however I would not begrudge him leaving if a Premier League offer was on the table.

Maybe I am wrong, but if your intention as a player was to leave the club you were playing for why then sign a new deal to stay at your existing one? Wouldn't that just make things much more difficult to move on on? Plus listen to Callum's interviews "A matter of when not if" is one line he came out with, really sounds like a player desperate to leave for the Toon!

Okay we all know Callum's a good player at League One level as proved by his records this season, but lets say that the Toon were interested he would be down the pecking order behind Remy, Cisse, Ameobi, Gouffran and the highly rated Adam Campbell.. What incentive is there for Callum to sign for Newcastle, sit on the bench and pick up a wage packet? Or play for his hometown club, the club he supports and help them rise again, which in fact is something he has already said he'd like to achieve with us!

Jay's comment is top notch Callum has only played 25 games for City, that's not even one whole season, yes if Callum continues to knock them in for the rest of the season then maybe PL clubs will come sniffing, but I doubt at this moment any club like Newcastle will take the risk, not because Callum isn't good enough, but because Callum is still inexperienced and not maintained a consistent level, 25 games is not enough games to judge a 21-Year old kid and determine he will be good enough in the PL, because he has smashed 11 goals in for a League One side.

Ok, I'll ignore the condescending tone in this post and the other. The point I am making is that if a player is hungry enough and believes in himself and his ability, then why wouldn't he think he could do a job with a bigger club which is much higher up the league than us (I did say in another post that I'll bet it's not just Newcastle looking). As someone else says, playing with international players must be a dream for a player like Callum. If it was Newcastle, they are not exactly scoring goals for fun are they. Look, I don't want to bring this thread down like what happens in some of the others, all I saying is that good young players who are hungry want to progress and if they can do that somewhere else earning a lot more money whilst they are at it, why wouldn't they. There is no real loyalty in the game anymore and what does he really owe us, if he wasn't here he would be somewhere else. Unfortunately money talks in this day and age and a rich footballer is a happy footballer. If you ran a poll of footballers in playing in League 1 & 2, you would struggle to find many who are genuinely happy about peaking at that level

I dont think anyone is questioning the fact that he is still inexperienced, it does not mean that Newcastle wont make an offer and wont sign him. Remember Bigirimana only played 26 times for us before Newcastle "gambled" on him.

From their point of view they are taking less of a gamble buying him now than in say 12 months after he has fired us back to the Championship and his value has rocketed.

I appreciate the point you are trying to make, one thing certainly I will agree on is that it won't just be Newcastle looking, however if you look at the evidence Callum has been saying for ages he wants to stay at City and help them up the League and into the play-offs and that he wanted to sign a new deal with the club and he kept his word by signing a new deal, Callum has said a fair bit about sticking around maybe that is reasons to be positive instead of assuming otherwise..

Obviously Wilson will have ambitions to play at a higher level eventually, too often though young players leave too early he would be better staying for 3 more years, he would then be 24 and if he has proved his worth and top clubs want him. Then he would be mad to turn it down.
