For those that were there, the 87 cup run won't be eclipsed.....but since then we've had in general better days away than we have at home in the Cup imo:

My favourites

Villa 5th round in 98 - 1-0

Leicester 4th round in 99 - 3-0

Got a bad feeling about Friday for some reason, all sorts of strange omens at play potentially and City will miss Fleck.

As even I am getting bored of the semantics about the offers and counter offers, what's your best and worst FA cup memories.....

Must say the 4-1 over Blackburn a couple of years back was a particular favourite, just about remember Viorel Moldovans goal at Villa park as well... worst has got to be Rochdale in 2003- losing 2-0 at Spotland was as embarrassing as it gets

Nah, You had to be at Sutton to experience just how bad it can get.

Leeds Semi and the '87 Final have the strongest memories for me

I went to all of the games mentioned so far. Losing 1-nil at Maine Road in the last minute and then all hell let loose was interesting. Losing 2 nil to WBA in 1982 at the Hawthorns in the 6th round was poor, on a side note I couldn't believe how many of the Cov fans were skinheads that day. losing 2-1 to Everton was a bitch too, especially after queuing 8 hours for the cursed tickets on a cold Sunday morning.

Some of the best and worst all in the same run for me.

Liverpool away Third Round '98, 3-1, Whelan and Boeteng immense in centre midfield, Huckerby great qualiser on stroke of half-time. Telfer with the third at the death cost me a 100 quid as had a tenner on a 2-1 to City.

Villa away Fifth round '98, 1-0(as mentioned previously), first ever win at Villa Park, never in doubt, Huckerby, and Boeteng superb, Moldovan became an all time hero scoring the decisive goal.

Sheffield United away, Quarter-final replay, '98, 1-1, lost on penalties, should have been out of sight before the only mistake i think ever saw Nillsson make, poor clearance going out for a corner in the last minute of normal time which Sheffield United equalised from.

Moldovan missed an open goal with a header, then feigned injury to get taken off as so embarassed.

Became an all-time villain for that one!

Really think that we would have won it that year, definitely would have beaten Newcastle in the semi, and would certainly have given Arsenal a better game than Newcastle did.

The 2-0 away at Rochale(as it was misprinted on the tickets) also a bad memory, had a stinking hangover as well which didn't improve my mood.

I concur with a lot of the above.....Away wins at Villa were like buses.....you wait 60+ years for one, and then 2 come along within 2 seasons.....I was there for the cup win in 98 & the 4-1 hiding we gave them the following season in the league....

The Sheff Utd. QF at Highfield Road was the only game I ever took my future wife to.....I was very drunk in the front of the WT....sort of remember us hitting the bar in the dying minutes....how we never won that tie by about 5 I will never know...


Another "typical city" cup game was at home against Charlton....we were 2-0 up & cruising.....then suddenly got nervous, got deeper, and deeper, and deeper....lost 2-3.

Blackburn away a few years ago was a good one, also bristol city away 3-3 draw was an awesome comeback.

Worst away - Northampton. Living there, I had to put with weeks of taunts - mainly from idiots who don't even support the wobblers.

Disappointing - opportunity missed against Sheff utd in 1998

Best - Probably Villa away

Most nervous - Leeds semi

Writing on nthe wall - losing to Charlton in 2000. It exposed how poor our aquad had become (and that was with McAllister and Keane)

In my humble opinion this match was the turning point for the whole fortunes of the football club, somehow we never recovered from this reversal and descended gradually to where we are Today.

Are we reading each others minds? But we really didn't get over that for the rest of the season, with the exception of McAllisters one man show against Sheff Wed in Oggy's last game. Just showed what we were going to miss s we knew he was off by then.

One of my best memories was 95-96 at Plymouth....telfer sent off and they scored from the free kick to go into half time 1 up . When we scored the equalizer my mate fell over on the terrace and messed his ankle up, but I was too busy going mad to care lol
we won 1:3 and the second half was ace

worse was Sutton by a frikkin mile

I can see that. I was there with a Charlton mate. It was a real body blow for us all. Now you have prompted me to look at the timeline....yep...certainly fits...

We had a bit of an embarrassment of riches with Dublin and Huckerby in top form. The whole deal smacks of another one of the 'borrow money to buy and make a quick return'

Sutton away,Had tickets for the home end fighting with Chelsea fans and all night in london.
Northampton,poor performance and did not stop raining.
Never been so cold and wet !!!

Liverpool 98 was a good day out, but surprised yet again by the absence of the "anfield roar". Their crowd were pretty quiet all game. Is it a myth or don't they bother for us?

Sheff Utd - As soon as Dublin missed his pen, we knew...

Man U in the 87 cup run.

And, Man U when we beat them 2-0 with Mifsud scoring. Yes, I know they didn't play their first team, but it felt great in amongst so many City fans. The atmosphere before during and after was superb.

Euro 2016 Prediction League Champion!!
Best - Usual ones mentioned above + WBA 3rd Rd replay in '95, under the dross of Phil Neal, brilliant Dublin header and Nuddy solo special to win v late on. Also, the first of the 3 recent great Cup away days at Blackburn in '97. We were 1-down before 3pm (Sherwood in first min after kicking off early!), Jess (!) and Huckerby got us leading before HT and then Oggy saving a 2nd half Sutton pen and seemingly taking forever to scramble back up to just grab it before Sutton tapped it in.

Worst - Charlton at home and also losing 1-0 to Cambridge away in a replay in '92. Last min pen saved by Oggy before Lee Hurst mowed the rebound into his own net. Sigh.

Went to many of the above games.

Best has to be the Leeds semi-final for the sheer tension. The roof went off when Micky Gynn equalised! Worst - Sutton Utd (although in a strange way you're almost proud to say 'I was there') Northampton (never stopped raining- thoroughly miserable day) and Rochdale (big away support, big expectations, usual result)

Got to be cup final day. The whole day was an event. Standing outside the greyhound pub in Wembley with my dad and having a cheeky drink at 14 then finding £20 on the floor that he quickly relieved me of!

Funnily enough we'll be in the greyhound next Friday before the England game where the conversation and reminiscing always turns to may 16th 87.

Was that the pub with a massive car park out the front? I just remember hundreds of people sitting on the walls.

Obviously '87. But going back a very long time, 1962 versus Sunderland. Winning 2-1 with late goals from Curtis and Bruck. A fabulous era to be a City fan. Even losing 1-3 on a mudbath to Man U in the quarter finals a few days later felt like a good time. Perfectly good goal disallowed. The period of Best, Law and Charlton. But also of Bly, Humphries and Rees.
Worst? Sutton, Rochdale, Northampton, Chester, Scarborough etc.
