what do SISU equate as decent money? In todays inflated market we should accept no less than 3 million

Well I predict he will go to Leeds for an undisclosed sum. But if we got 1 million I see that as good as we will get for a player in last year of his contract

For the sake of a year, I would rather see us lose him on a free than sell him for less than £1m this summer. He's worth more than that to us.
However, I VERY much doubt that SISU will see it that way. Ideally, we would just offer him an increased wage on a new 3/4 year deal, using the free wages from King, Gunnarsson, Westwood, McIndoe, Carsley, Osbourne etc and then we would have no issues. Ahhh, now back to the real world.........

The same goes for Martin Cranie by the way. We are in the exact same position with him.

Surely even the short sighted board can now see that we must offer him an improved deal NOW even if it is only to protect their investment and get a higher fee for him. Ridiculous to think having seen what we've just gone through with six months of speculation and half-hearted bids, that we are prepare to place our most influential player in the exact same position or risk losing an asset for nothing. These are suppose dto be business men.

Leeds would seem to have a few quid to spend so there could be some truth in their interest once the wheel starts turning. The rumour is that Villa having sold Downing for £20m, now want N'Zogbia to replace him for £10m. Wigan in turn want to replace N'Zogbia with Snodgrass from Leeds for £4m. Leeds want to sspend £1m of that on Clingan and we want to spend 50p on the someone with Stephen Hawking's legs and Stevie Wonders eyesight.

I agree completely with this. If we're not getting anyone else in before the season begins then surely there's space in the budget to get sammy on a new contract now rather than later.

I think if anything around 1 to 2 million is put infront of sisu they will take it. Id hate to see him go as he's so important to Andy's squad and style of play but the board wont think about on pitch consequences. If Sammy does go its v.important to extend Cranie's contract.

The thing I don't understand is surely SISU should realise how important he is too us. From their view, it would also surely be more cost effective (we know that's how they think) to give Sammy an extra couple of grand a week, than have to go out and sign someone, have to pay them their wages, a signing on fee, fee to agents etc?
Again, that goes for Cranie too.

Their cost effective solution would be to sell him and not replace him:facepalm:

If Leeds offer anything half decent - £500k - SISU will snap their hands off. We will not be offering Clingan or anyone else new contracts as we are skint and going to stay that way for the forseeable future. Sale of Clingan would get some much needed money into coffers and keep us going for another month or so and we will be reducing the wage bill - win win for SISU - obviously the loss of the only experienced class midfielder doesn't come into the equation for them and we would be niaive to think it does.

Sadly i completely agree with this...

Selling Clingan would be Championship suicide...

But do they ?, I'm not even sure SISU know who he is. More than likely they see his name on a list of players and the wage next to his name and think,..

"so, someone will pay us to take this guy and reduce the wage bill ?"

I'd like to think that they at least know the players and who are our stronger ones. The again, we would hardly be surprised if that was untrue would we?!

I imagine they know who our stronger players are, but I think they don't care. They're job is to keep us running and, I imagine, to get us sold for the best deal possible.
Therefore, they'll sell until they can get the club off their books and let the new board worry about on the pitch.

Completely agree , sad but true . If and when somebody comes in for the Juke we will sadly wave goodbye to him as well . We cannot afford not to accept any offer !

The one big thing on our side in this matter is their main man Ken Bates.
He is as tight as SISU if thats possible, and theres no way he'll pay weekly wages of between 5-10 grand.I presume Sammy's on close to that now so there is no point in him going. The Leeds fans are in uproar, as he is selling all there top players, some have gone like Johnson and Snodgrass,Becchio and Gradel are all supposedly going.I think its going to be a difficult year for Leeds this year as Bates makes cut after cut.
Have faith he'll stay.

As they say "sh*t rolls down hill" Leeds have all their best players sold and they come and take all our best player.

Having said that, I would be suprised if Leeds are having money troubles, they have big/massive gates every week and they went into admin fairly recently and got away with paying something like 10p in the £1.

In my opinion Clingan will be gone any bid over 1/2 million will be excepted by our desperate owners.

I doubt we will sell Clingan unless the price goes beyond way beyond £1m.

It has been stated though by the board Thorn must use the budget he has been given and any ins and outs will be his remit and he can't bring in unless he sells. It's his budget they say so that sounds like he will not let Clingan go.

The big test like all managers will be when the bid for one player no matter how intrinsic he may be to the team is too big for the board to turn down regardless of what the manager 'warns' them about.

However SISU have stated the house is in order for the medium term with savings being made all the time and a new season to come. To let arguably the best player leave after the manager has made him so key to the upcoming tactical way we will approach this season would be criminal and not even a good business decision.

Keep him and give him a new improved contract in January and he may be worth £3m.
Let him go and Thorn's preparations will be in turmoil, the fans will revolt by staying away in considerable numbers (myself included on this one) and the club will lose more than any bid from Leeds would bring them short term.
