I think I remember that game! Is that the one where Telfer scored to make it 2-2? I went to the return leg and we lost 1 nil at HR and it was absolutely freezing

I remember going to Gillingham for an evening cup game in the 90's. What a dump! What made it worse was, there were four of us (big lads!) all squashed into a Fiat Cinquecento - about the size of a very small Mini. I was in the back (last to be picked up), with knees up to me chin, and to make matters worse the driver took the wrong turn going back home and we ended up heading south again on the M25. If I remember, we only held them to a draw as well? What a night! Got back home at about 4am!

Yes - I was there...cold, wind, rain, sun or whatever...it was simply a dreadful & depressing place to go to &stand in - regardless of the result.

There and back in a clapped out Triumph Herald with a busted heater in fookin January! Reckon I've done my time!!!

Went to a pub in London many years ago when I couldn't make it to Highfield Road for a Monday sky game. I was in North London after a late finishing off site meeting and just went into the first pub I could find showing the game. It had a sticky floor but Importantly the game was on with the sound off and about 15 minutes in there was the sound of breaking glass behind me which turned out to have been a pint glass. Yes someone had thrown it at someone else who was wielding a pool queue, and I left very shortly afterwards.

Rotherham. Millmoor. Shocking ground. 0-0 and dull.
Withdean : appalling.
Grimsby : blundell park. Boxing Day, coldest ever @ a match. Lee Hughes missed penalty, scored n sent off! Won 1-0 on a frozen pitch.

Burnden Park Bolton think it was boxing day coldest place in the world if you stepped over the white line on the away terrace you couldnt see the whole pitch.
Vicarage Road Watford walking through the allotments for a night match.

Talking about freezing cold - the game against MK Dons which we won 3-1? away in that funny (hockey?) stadium. Tried to enjoy it, but I'm pretty sure I lost a few fingers due to frostbite during that game

Napier. You are correct, how it was played I'll never know. Pitch was completely frozen n players couldn't stand up. Terrible game.

was anyone else at newcastle in midweek in 1998/99? They were redeveloping and had cut of a neat section of roof exactly above the away corner - naturally the heavens opened and stayed open the second we got out from the concourse and thought 'oh...' all served up with a predictable 4-1 defeat too

The last few years of holidaying in the lower leagues has been great for racking up the numbers of forgettable places visited:

Doncaster - near the Keepmoat there are some streets near the ground where have the street has been demolished and people are still living in the other half. Some bloke advertised a pub on here or GMK, I'm led to believe it was a complete and utter hole. He made it sound quite idyllic to be fair to him.

Where are the biggest dumps you've been to to watch City? (Northampton answers do not apply)

Oi ! All my family are from mining villages all around Donny, great place, lovely views and very nice people (despite most being Leeds fans). The pub you're on about might have been my uncles to be honest.

Roker park - Hated the walk, always fucking freezing.
Ayresome park - Dump.
Filbert street - Fucking hate them.
Sixfields - Took me ages to dry off.
Fratton park - Expected a lot better.

A couple on here said Millwall but always found it a good place to go, good mate of mine is a big Millwall fan and they are very funny people when you're with them.

Layer rd Colchester were caged in and there were literally only 2 toilets!
Rotherham, you had to walk through a scrap yard to get in and down an alley between 2 big walls and it flooded in the middle

I remember we had to get some black bin bags to keep dry.then there was Bolton stuck in the corner could only see one corner because of the shop that was built over the away terrace and it was freezing.

Blackpool League cup open terrace behind the goal the end was actually condemmed the whole of the Irish Sea fell on us

Wasn't funny at the time, but became funnier when I walked into the ground and you were there freezing your balls off LOL

Then there was the time we went to West Ham listening to cds instead of the radio all the way there then found the game was called off.
went to the Brentford game and stood in the rain supporting Mansfield because Killer was in there side freeing 0-0 game and no roof on the temporary away stand.

Yes and we forgot to pick you up lol

Not lower league (yet) but Sunderland. Well...it's just Sunderland!

Sunderland is to Newcastle what Nuneaton is to Coventry. The smelly hole.

For me, it's got to be Selhurst Park. Feels like you're caged in, seats are way too small for two fat lads to sit down on, stewards are way too protective to let two fat lads stand up without agro, and the place reeks of stale urine. Plus last time I went I had to drive down from Derby, so had to endure this whilst sober. And it was my birthday - drew 1-1.

Two regular lads would struggle to share a seat TBF ;):)

That was the one nicksig! If I remember, (correct me if I'm wrong) wasn't the return leg postponed as well due to a frozen pitch? That's how bloody cold it was! I think the decision was only made an hour or so before kick-off, so there were a few thousand very angry fans - particularly Gillingham fans! A long way to travel for nothing!

Selhurst Park....more just a pain to get to.
Luton dire
Chester dire
West Ham intimidating
Grimsby grim....so cold when wind blowing in off the sea

Been twice to Sunderland (Roker Park). The experience was thus:

Travel 200 miles to ground in exhausted Charabanc, park on Seaburn promenade.

Before getting off coach, endure Cops ransacking vehicle in search for any evidence of alcohol consumption.

Off coach straight into icy 300mph North sea 'breeze' straight into the clutches of over zealous Police escort, arresting anyone who dare stray from the sheparded pack.

Marched right up to turnstiles, enter ground to be greeted by uncovered terracing exposing you to poles of Pluto type weather conditions and a shit view.

Witness dismal goalless draw, ON BOTH OCCASIONS!! (Did have the consolation of witnessing the Speedie/Gary Bennett set to at one of the games mind).

Leave ground to abuse from socially deprived natives and another (this time welcomed I suppose) Police escort, straight to Charabanc.

Relievedly depart Sunderland for long journey home, arriving circa 3am on one occasion, with the prospect of work that same morning.

Have had similar misery at both Luton and Stoke as well, both Towns/Cities which like Sunderland, have absolutley nothing to recommend you pay a visit for.

The Old Den, Victoria Ground, Ayresome Park { The barbed wire coils and fencing was unnerving on its own}, Maine Road { Mosside rat run}, Grimsby, West Ham is not too salubrious either !
