Got to be worth registering him as a player surely?

We're absolutely nowhere near the 25 man squad limit so it can't do any harm, he could do a job now and then.

He's not played any preseason so he's clearly not going to be fit at the moment, but I would much rather see this midfield on Saturday:

Carsley

Clingan - Bigirimana

Baker

That would allow McSheff to play up front instead of O'Donovan and would put Baker in a more natural position, he's terrible as a CM in this formation.

Thoughts?

:thinking about:Looking at our squad I'd also register Oggy, Thorn, and Harrison.

Great idea to bring in an over the hill player who has a recent history of injury problems and who hasn't played a single pre season game. Have you thought about football management for a living?

Obviously, which was why I replied. It was the bit where you said you'd rather see this midfield on Saturday, and Carsley's name in it that made me realise we had a management genius in our midst. It's a novel idea, groundbreaking perhaps, playing retired players who haven't played a single game during pre season. I can't believe the Ferguson's, Mourinho's and Strachan's have never thought about it before. 

Well you obviously didn't read it properly then.

I'm saying IF HE WAS FIT then that would be a better midfield than whatever will start on Saturday. I'm not suggesting we just chuck him in next week you tool

But he's obviously not fit so it was a totally pointless post to make. And is there really any need for personal insults? Can people not have a difference of opinion without playground remarks?

Kuklinski your heavy tones of sarcasm along with your total misunderstanding of the orignial post make you appear like a bit of a fool here.

PVA, I think he's possibly a bit past it, but when you look at our current squad I don't think it would be any harm to get him up to fitness and keep him in the background. Can't totally rely on youth, need some experience in there somewhere.

Lee is 37, has retired & recently had a major achilles operation.
I know we are desperate but he isn't playing anymore (if he has any sense).

End of Story.

Agreed that we need a bit of experience. It's great to see the likes of Thomas and Bigirimana pushing for first team spots, but one of those starting alongside Baker in a midfield two does not fill me with much confidence. However Clingan plus Thomas/Gael with Carsley sitting just looks a lot more solid to me. Especially against Leicester's midfield which is very strong (Danns/Abe/King)

How did I misunderstand? He said if Carsley was fit he'd play him Sarurday. But he's not fit, he hasn't been fit for months. He hasn't played a single game in God knows how long, let alone pre season, and not forgetting the fact Carsley has officially retired. It was a totally pointless post. And if the moderator (who constantly locks threads for some reason) is reading, I would suggest they lock this one too. Pointless.

Its not an option imo! He's hung up his boots and even if he hadnt, he's not had a single pre season game and would take him atleast the equivilant amount of pre season weeks to get fit to even be considered. By this time we'll be well into the season and the whole process would have been a waste as we may not even need him. Plus, the midfield you have suggested wouldnt suit Clingan. Hes the one who sits deep and with him, Carsley and Bigi in the eame midfield, where are our attacks coming from? This midfield would cause the dtrikers to drop too deep like yesterday.

I'm with PVA, it's a no-brainer. Get him registered as a player and up to match fitness. He's better than the signings we won't be making. Nothing to lose. And I think he could do a decent job-every side needs experienced old heads, and up until November he was one of our most effective players last season.

I wouldn't be too worried about Kuklinski's views as he just simply doesn't rate him as a player. Like me with Richard Wood :)

On a lighter note Francis Laurent now plays for Lincoln City in the Conference . :pimp:

Has it not occurred to people that his injury may have been the reason he has retired? Achilles injuries are a difficult thing to get over even for a young athlete, let alone an over the hill footballer.

Can't see our diamond midfield doing well against Festa - we might need wing-backs:

Murphy
Keogh - Cranie - Wood
Christie ------------------------------Hussey
Bell - Clingan - Baker
McSheffrey
Jutkiewicz

I'm assuming Turner, McPake, Clarke, Cameron, Deegan and Eastwood are all injured leaving us a threadbare bench: Dunn, Thomas, Bigirimana, O'Donovan, Platt

Yeah, 3-5-2 at least we have a few CB's & Christie & Hussey have the energy needed. But we are woefully short in midfield & up front.

If you look at lower league teams, quite a few of them have come out of retirement or even registered 'just in case'.

Didnt Strachan come out of retirement to play for us?

Yeah, and Strachan was always instantly our best player by an absolute mile. Crap manager, though :D
