With current form will not reach play offs (3 Viewers)

Nearly half way through the season. If we had not lost 10 points we would be just outside the play offs by goal difference.

However the key point is that we are 10 points off the club sitting in 6th place. So we have not earned back a single point of the deficit in the first half - or another way of looking at it is that we are exhibiting the form of a side that will come sixth or seventh in the league. To make the play-offs we need to be better than that (given the 10 point penalty) - in the second half of the season we need to perform slightly better than Orient did in the first - i.e. Championship winning form.

I don't think it will happen.

Our squad is too small. Our defence isn't good enough. Our strikers on the other hand........

What happens in the next transfer window will decide what happens. We were doing well until we got a few injuries. We even ended up without a fit striker. All clubs will go through a bad run. To me it all depends on who gets injured and for how long as well as who we sell and if they get replaced.

The defence is the problem, or lack of it. We have conceded more goals than three of the bottom four. Only crewe who are bottom have conceded more.

The defence does not get any protection by our midfielders that's the problem, its all out attack. Need more experience in the midfield.

Yet another negative thread. If we were in the Top 6 right now, you'd still be complaining!

Do I think they'll make the play-off's, who knows but I can dream can't I.

Current form is not quite good enough but I don't think we'd necessarily need Orient's form here on in to make sixth spot. If we continue average points tally from first 22 games through to 46 then then the final points tally would average 79.45 minus 10 which equals 69.5. Convert 2 of those losses from the first 22 games into wins over the course of the 2nd half and we may just have a sniff. Swindon got sixth spot with 74 points last season.

win tomorrow that is 31 points for half a season
do the same in 2nd half (41 points) and we will be there or there abouts

Remember it is our fault astute. Those staying strong and staying away from sixfields are solely to blame for everything.

I tend to agree with you. For any chance of play offs we need to go on a run where we pick up 7-8 wins out of 8-9 games.

So what you are saying is that we need another 47 points in our remaining 24 games which is 1.96 points per game or 90 points over a season...which is not far off title winning form (6 more than Doncaster won the league with last season)

Unfortunately the owners chose to pay the rent in POINTS not POUNDS.

To have scored 48 goals and only be in 12th place is scandalous, but to have conceded 40 goals
is even more alarming.

We need a Ben Turner or George Curtis type figure at the heart of our defense, somebody who will
take charge and dominate the penalty area, without this I do not think the play off's will be ours.

What I'm saying is, in answer to the original post, is that we don't NECESSARILY need Orient's current form to finish in 6th spot. Orient's current form of 2.14 points per game will average out at 98.3 points over 46 games. Deduct 10 (88) and that's a far cry from 75.

However, taking into account games already played, 2.14 points over the next 24 games would see us on 79/80 points. I don't think we need that as 74 points was good enough last season, 73 points for 2011/12 and 71 points for 2010/11. I do take your point though that to achieve 75 points will be a tall order.

I don't think we will make the play offs, although if we can still be within a shout with 6 games left. Say we're within 5-7 points, then we have an outside chance. Theres usually one team who collapse and fall away, we just have to make sure we are in a good position to capitalise.

I agree, we all need that dream.
I will still put £5 on us making play offs.

remember loads on here after the 10 point deduction - waving around their 8/1 for relegation betting slips - well they can get 40/1 now :D

Don't be an idiot. If we were in the top 6 right now then we would have been matching Orient for form, so my fact-based post wouldn't make sense.
You can dream all you like matey, I'm just pointing out that we need to step up form if we are to make it.

As a few have pointed out we leak far too many to be in play off contention. Like the JC mistakes against bradford, seabourne vs swindon.

Also if im right for the first time this season even with our 10 points back we would be outside top 6.

Dont forget CCFC do not do top 6 finishes!

We are in the position right now where we could go on a good run and edge towards a play off place,or with our wobbly defence could lose games and be just above the drop zone.As a fan I hope and want us to win every game but no that won't happen, unless we sort out our habit of gifting soft goals away.Just hoping for a good second half of the season.

Yep. It was the 1969/1970 season the last time we finished in 6th position, in ANY league. 43 years ago! Further back than most of you lot on here were even born! It would be a dream of mine to see it happen again! :(

Taking all factors into consideration I expect mid table, where we are now or a place or two higher.

not bad for a team that started on -10

But are now 9 points off the playoffs. And considering we have 2 of the best strikers in this division that are both scoring lots of goals I see it as a poor return.

Results going the way they are, we will finish closer to relegation than promotion. Astute has it right, best strike force in this league bar none. The midfield and defence wouldn't get a job in Dot's Launderette....They can't keep a clean sheet.

That is going too far. Our form over the first half of the season would have us in 6th position. The 10 point deduction means we are 12th. If we assume the same form in the second half, we will finish about 8th or 9th. Jack's form table above is interesting, however as we know we were missing both strikers during that period, we can make allowances and say this is an unrepresentative sample.

Of course, we may not replicate the same form in the second half. We may buy two fabulous centre halves in January - or indeed we may sell Clarke and Wilson. However the mean projected finish would be 8th from the statistics at least.

I'd like to see how any other team would have done playing all 46 games away from home?
